Chapter 129: Drainage System
Thanks to her Qi essence, she was spared from getting wet, but Brother Siri was not. Li Chunhua searched among the rolls of textiles in her inventory that are water-proof and tore two meters of them before covering the elf’s head.
"Brother Siri, you might get a cold," she said as her eyes shifted to the screen, asking her for the required material for a greenhouse.
[Greenhouse, Bronze Grade (Tendra Civilization)]
[Require Materials: 5 units of metal blocks, 20 units of wood, plastic film (55 square feet), polyester, rigid glass, screen net, or any light materials.]
Siri secured the fabric by tying both ends of it to his neck. The elf ran back to the basic hut to get a shovel, intending to dig a small canal around the branch edgings so it would prevent the soil bed of the crops from absorbing too much moisture and let the rain water flow out of the field.
[Does the player wish to spend 5 units of metal blocks, 20 units,... to build a greenhouse?]
Li Chunhua clicked yes and inspected which fabric material the system had reduced.
The 10 rolls of turquoise floral sheet fabric were reduced by 3 rolls, and not long after, the all-familiar white fog appeared and spread, covering the entire field at a height of three meters.
Her wood, metal blocks, and copper coins were deducted.
Siri came back this time carrying two shovels and gave one to Li Chunhua.
When the fog was gone, both of them saw a small house-style greenhouse, with its wooden pillar structure and metal wiring and beams keeping the roof fabric in place. It looked like a mini-version of Metropolitan Base.
The fields were relocated to the sides, retaining their bedding while allowing a narrow pathway in the middle for people to walk on.
For a basic facility, it was alright, but the problem was that the roof was not water-proof. Li Chunhua stepped inside and directed the light onto the ceiling. She already noticed some parts were soaked.
Li Chunhua gave Siri a roll of waterproof fabric, and she held one too. Siri didn’t need any instructions. The two quickly unrolled the fabric over the roof. Li Chunhua did a second inspection of the sheets and was finally relieved that it was working.
Though she knew this was temporary, the main solution was still to make a barrier array that could isolate the territory from the harsh weather and prevent monsters and unfriendly people from sneaking in.
After solving the roof, the two of them dug a ditch around the greenhouse and a canal leading to the outside walls. Li Chunhua adjusted her strength after her first attempt to make a hole one meter deep. It was no hassle for the two to complete the task because of the mole on duty.
"We need to build a drainage system," Li Chunhua said, observing the small stream of water flowing through the canal they made.
"Indeed." Siri agreed out of worry before suggesting they return to the residence first to discuss it.
Li Chunhua agreed before letting out a tired sigh.
Long Haoran had just finished cleaning the kitchen and was at the door when she met the elf and the gang leader. Their shoes smudged with mud, and the elf’s wet hair entered Long Haoran’s vision.
His eyes passed between the two and the light rain outside. The same screen of the weather forecast Li Chunhua received notified him.
His first thought was the particular message the system had announced after its upgrade.
[Within seven days, the environment will undergo drastic changes. The weather will be unpredictable.]
Li Chunhua saw Chef Long Guy and spoke to the elf to lend his temporary raincoat, knowing the man would be returning to the basic hut.
Siri untied it and gave it to Long Haoran.
The latter didn’t stand for the ceremony and accepted it. His hand examined the texture of the fabric and wondered if this was also obtained from the secret realm his brother was talking about. If that is the case, the place could be a modern city.
While having these guesses, he stepped aside to make way for them. Li Chunhua and the Elf took off their shoes and walked past him, but after two seconds, Li Chunhua returned to the threshold, frowning at the piece of fabric on the man’s hand.
Long Haoran lifted his questioning gaze on her, and after a few seconds, someone’s upper body was wrapped in a dumpling with only his eyes exposed.
Long Haoran: "..."
"Done. You can go now and don’t play in the rain." Li Chunhua admired her masterpiece for a few seconds. In this way, Chef Long Guy will not suffer from a cold; otherwise, her breakfast will be affected.
The dumpling Long Haoran turned around and resisted the urge to tear the makeshift raincoat on the spot.
"Bye, have a good night’s sleep, and don’t forget what you promised before. I want 200 pounds of grill meat tomorrow and two buckets of ginger sauce!"
There was a sound of something being torn. Long Haoran’s eyebrows twitched. He closed the door.
Li Chunhua was going to say some more encouraging words, remembering that it was the duty of the employer. She scratched her head and asked the elf beside her. "What happened to him?"
"Maybe it was because you doubted his ability and only asked for those things. The next time, you should increase the order." Siri hid the smile on his lips and sat on the lounge chair.
A knowing look appeared on Li Chunhua’s face. So, that’s it!
She sat beside Siri, and the elf asked her for a pen and paper. He made a rough drawing of the territory, labeled some parts, and designed it based on the drainage system of the Elven kingdom.
He presented the paper to his master, and Li Chunhua’s eyes were drawn to its details. She learned new things that she wasn’t aware of, like lateral seepage, drainage discharge, collective pipes, and a water reserve in case the water resources nearby suffer in the near future.
He also pointed out the problem of stagnant water, which becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and spreads disease.
Brother Siri is amazing. The 10,000 silver coins will be worth it. Li Chunhua praised in her mind before returning the paper to the elf: "Just say what you need. I’ll do my best to get it for you. But first, we need to build an exchange center or mission hall tomorrow where the new residents could pick up missions in exchange for supplies or copper coins, and I’m planning to build the quarry tomorrow."
Siri raised his brows because he was pleasantly surprised that his master shed her foodie nature to think about this matter. The expression on his face was that of a mom proud of her daughter’s progress. There was even a crystal tear forming on the corner of his eyes, which he wiped with his fingers.
What’s wrong with him? Li Chunhua frowned.
"But we lack a trustworthy employee for the mission hall. Those two freeloaders won’t do a good job," the elf pointed out, referring to the two shotas who only knew how to eat.
A certain someone’s bruised face and golden hair resurfaced in Li Chunhua’s mind. "I have one."

Meanwhile, Long Haoran unwrapped the fabric from his upper body and gazed at the starless sky and the rain. He sent his brother a message, trying to confirm something.
[Dumpling Duke]: Is it raining at your place?
[Great Romantic Sage]: By the way, thank you. The meal was so good that we almost fought over it. As for raining, it’s not. The sky is clear. Hold on, are you really asking about the weather or are you just missing me?
Long Haoran ignored the last part and was about to close the chat when his brother sent him another message.
[Great Romantic Sage]: But I don’t know if it’s just my imagination; it’s a bit warmer.
Warmer?
Long Haoran immediately opened the global chat, and what he observed made his brows crease. He left his brother a reminder to prepare water for the possibility of a drought.
