Chapter 79: Ch 79: Last person I want to see - Part 1

Anabella tried looking at the pair in the eye, but she felt like the air was awkward. Compared to her, the alpha pair did not even think anything was wrong.

Or if they did, they were too good at hiding their feelings from her.

"Are you sure you want to head back now? Your heat just ended, so you might still feel some side effects. If possible, I would like to have you in a place to observe you and ensure you are alright for the next 24 hours."

Clair spoke in a worried voice, and a part of Anabella’s brain assured her that the alpha was only saying these words because she was a medical professional who wanted what was best for her.

However, a bigger part of Anabella felt hopeful that this worry also meant that her friend was more interested in her than just her health.

’This is why I cannot stay here for longer. The more I see them acting like this toward me, the more hopeful I get about being special to them. I should not feed my false sense of superiority anymore.’

It felt like a crime to look away from Clair’s worried eyes when the alpha was being this sincere with Anabella, but this was a crime that needed to be committed.

"I should get going now....do you have scent patches I can apply on my skin? I feel like I smell too strongly of my heat at the moment. It might give some people ideas about me..."

Anabella did not realize this was a problem until she almost stepped out of the apartment. But then she smelled Noah’s worried pheromones, which reminded her that she must also smell strong.

She knew her request was incredible and should not have made it. No amount of scent patches would hide her post-heat scent, and the best way to get rid of it was to ride it out.

It was only a matter of a few hours, but each second she spent in this house made her heart swell with hope. It felt like a sweet torture that Anabella was slowly becoming more familiar with.

So, to ensure that no further mistakes were made, she needed to leave and head back home.

"Fine! I get it. I won’t stop you if you miss your home so much. But at least let me drive you back home. Noah, get the car out. We are escorting Anabella back to her...’ husband.’

The last word sounded off, and it might just be Anabella’s wishful thinking, but she felt like Clair forced herself to speak those last few words to her.

Anabella wanted to read more into this, but the alpha had already turned around and decided to walk out. It left Anabella no option but to keep thinking about what happened and contemplate what to do next.

Ultimately, she decided not to do anything and let her questions rest. The reaction she noticed could have been a residue left over from her heat. Anabella did not need to feel she had a chance with the Alpha duo.

The car ride she received was one of the most suffocating ones of her life. She needed to speak, but her throat felt clogged when she tried to make a sound.

The two alphas in the front seat were equally quiet, adding to Anabella’s loneliness after her heat.

And sooner than she expected (or wanted to), her home arrived. She looked at the huge building with an emptiness in her heart, and her limbs refused to move and open the door for her.

"We are here...You don’t have to go back right now, you know. If you want to spend more time outside, you are welcome to do so. You just need to say the word to us and-"

Her limbs finally felt like they could move, and Anabella forced the door open before she got out.

"I know, and I feel grateful for your help. But I would rather head back home now. I have disturbed your peaceful life enough-"

A calm but powerful pheromonal scent engulfed Anabella as she reached for the door. She quickly looked ahead and saw Noah’s hand tightening on the wheel. The man’s expression was worried before he made up his mind and let go of his grip.

"You are never a burden on us, so never say anything like that in front of me ever again. If you did...I won’t be happy with you."

Noah spoke in a low voice that made him sound sulky. But the target in his voice and the force of his pheromones made Layla gasp in fright.

She felt she had made a mistake when speaking, but she could not recall saying anything that could be taken wrong.

"Noah, stop it. You will scare Anabella if you continue to blast your pheromones like that. I am sorry, Bella. This guy might be an adult, but his motor control over his body is worse than a child. It is something we are still working on at the moment."

Clair apologized to her partner, but seeing her like this made Anabella feel sorry. She felt alone then, and her eyes felt moist and irritated.

"I understand. I know Noah just as well as you, so there is no need to think I will misunderstand him. I-I should leave now."

Anabella quickly opened the car door and got off. Her action immediately attracted the guards’ attention, who looked curious about her relationship with the people who escorted her back.

It was disturbing to be observed like this, but Anabella pretended she did not notice as she walked past those guards to head inside her house.

She could still feel the stares until she closed the door behind her.

Her legs felt weak, making Anabella feel like she was about to collapse. But the solid presence of the door behind her helped her be steady.

She wanted to catch her breath, but unfortunately, the first person she ran into while doing this turned out to be Sharon.
