’Tsk, I cannot see Daniel for the second day. I thought life would get much better once I moved in with him and got to live with him. But so far, he feels even more distant than he usually does. Was this a mistake?’

Sharon cursed as she picked up some food, only to drop it on her plate seconds later. She continued to do this until her appetite ran out, and she pushed the food away from her plate with a disappointed expression.

James noticed this, and he looked worried for his mother.

She felt distant the past few days, making him want to ask what happened.

But for whatever reason, these words would not come out of his mouth, no matter how much he tried to. Every time he opened his mouth, his throat felt clogged, almost as if someone was squeezing it to prevent any sound from escaping him.

It felt frustrating, and it made James’s mood drop as well.

"James, did your father tell you when he will be back? I feel like has been working a lot these past few days. Do you think he is avoiding us or something?"

Sharon tried to joke around, but the more she tried to pass it off as a joke, the more she realized that these were her real feelings.

She was afraid that her lover was ignoring her and making her feel neglected.

James stopped eating his food as he looked at his mother. He could tell how worried the older female was, so he tried to assure her everything was fine.

"Don’t worry, mother. This is usual for the father. He often gets busy like this out of nowhere, but he will be back soon. You do not need to be concerned. Father loves you a lot, and he won’t cheat on you.

My father is a loyal man."

James assured Sharon, but she still felt uneasy.

Maybe it was because she lacked the mating mark, but her brain continued to think of scenarios in which Daniel would leave her for someone else. This was also happening more and more often.

’Tsk, it is all because I moved in with him. If I knew this would cause me to feel neglected and insecure, I would have asked for more time and assurance.’

But what was done could not be undone. All Sharon could do now was work through her issues and hope that Daniel would return home soon.

Silence descended around the breakfast table, and Sharon picked on her food until she heard the front door opening.

She quickly pushed her chair away and flew to check who it was. In her heart, she knew that it could only be one person - Daniel.

The sudden rush of excitement made Sharon feel light-headed, and she was ready to ask Daniel not to leave her alone again and to spend his time with her when a dose of reality damped her excitement.

"You are not Daniel? What are you doing back so soon? I thought that you finally left for good."

Sharon’s face was disappointed as she stood at the door and looked at Anabella.

James came out to check what happened, and he looked marginally happier (and relieved) to see that she was back.

"I was out because of my heart, not because I decided to head back and live separately. My mother would kill me if she ever got to know what happened, and the result wouldn’t be peaceful for Daniel either.

So, I would appreciate it if you kept quiet about this incident so we could stay out of each other’s business."

It was a good deal in Anabella’s mind, but Sharon’s agitation made her volatile.

Even now, Sharon looked unhappy but willing to cooperate and tolerate her end goal.

"Tsk, fine! I will cooperate with you, but only because you asked me this time, and our end goals align. Don’t think it is because I want to get along with you."

Sharon stalked out of the room after speaking the bullshit she wanted to.

She left Anabella a little dumbfounded at the entrance, causing the younger omega to sigh before pulling herself securely onto her feet and walking inside.

Her eyes met James, and the young alpha bit his lip before he made an excuse for his mother’s behavior.

"Please, don’t feel offended by Mother’s words. Mother is going through a hard time because father has not been back for some time. I’m sure her mood will improve soon, and she will return to her normal self."

James tried to defend Sharon, but to Anabella, it did not matter whether Sharon was acting like this or like her usual self. To her, both options could have been better, but they did not help.

Not wanting to disappoint the kid, Anabella smiled and pretended she was not offended by what happened. But her anger made her insides boil until she thought it was too much to handle.

"I see. Well, I hope whatever is bothering Sharon gets resolved soon. I don’t want to keep running into her when she is always in a bad mood."

Anabella spoke in a calm voice, but it betrayed just a little bit of her real irritation and frustration.

James felt the need to apologize again, but even he knew that apologies were overdue.

Anabella needed time and distance and maybe even a divorce his father was unwilling to give.

James could not help in this regard, and Anabella was more than aware. So, she dragged herself to her bed and forced herself to relax and forget what had happened.

Her disappointment was immeasurable, and she could not show how disappointed she had felt in her day.

’Forget about it. What happened was a one-time thing. Do not read too much into Clair and Noah’s actions. Do you know how alphas cannot control themselves with an omega in heat? The only one who would feel disappointed is if you allow yourself to get carried away.’
