Chapter 39: Ch 39: Air the place out - Part 2

"Tsk, why today of all days..."

Daniel pushed himself to stand up, but Sharon did not do the same.

Since Anabella was facing the back of the couch, she could not see the naked omega and had no intention of seeing her. She just wanted this dinner to be over with.

"I will open all the windows and turn on all the exhausts. Do you want to get food delivered for dinner? I don’t think our caretaker is in a state to ’take care’ of our house."

Anabella’s jab did not go unnoticed, and Daniel walked over toward her with an angry expression.

"Take those fucking words back or else-"

Her wrist was grabbed, and before Anabella knew it, her face was exposed to Daniel. She was certain that she was going to be slapped hard, but the hand did not come down to touch her.

Instead, the alpha had a weird look on his face when he looked down at Anabella.

"Hey, you-!"

Daniel spoke softly, and his voice sounded strained. He sounded almost vulnerable and suspicious of something, and hearing him talk like that sent shivers down Anabella’s spine.

"We do not have time for this. Whatever you want to talk to me about can wait until we deal with our family. Remember, they will blame Sharon if anything goes wrong today since she’s the new caretaker."

Anabella pointed out, and that finally snapped Daniel out of his daze.

"Fuck! Fine! I will let this go for now, but I don’t think it’s over yet. I want a proper explanation of why you have those alpha scents on your body. Are you cheating on me?"

Daniel asked in an almost angry and annoyed voice. The only thing holding him back was the thought of what would happen if he left a visible mark on Anabella’s face.

He would never live this down; somehow, Sharon would be blamed for his temper.

"No, we won’t be talking about it. You have your own life, and I have mine. I would appreciate it if you don’t interfere in my life, husband."

That last title was sarcastic, and Daniel looked ready to erupt. But he held his desire to hurt Anabella and went back to his lover as soon as he heard her move.

"Fine! We will not talk about it, but make sure you control your pheromones in the future. Also, make yourself presentable when you return home. You reek of unknown alphas-"

"And you reek of your omega, our caretaker, and not doing her job. If you would excuse me, I would like to leave."

Anabella reached the stairs when she noticed another smaller presence standing on them.

"It is safe for you to head down now. Oh, and people would be coming over for dinner. I will go and change now, so you should do the same."

Anabella told the kid before he could speak.

It made James clench his fist, but he quickly looked away in shame as soon as he realized that he had been about to scold Anabella for something.

No one remembered how the preparations started or finished, but when Anabella came down for dinner time and to receive her guests, Sharon was nowhere to be seen, and her scent was also nowhere to be smelled.

Daniel cleaned up well but looked grumpy while sitting in the dining room and entertaining his parents.

"Anabella, you finally came down. Don’t you think you should have arrived earlier to be with us when you knew we were coming? After all, aren’t those good manners? What will the other families think of you if you behave like this?"

Her mother-in-law had a lot to say about Anabella’s behavior. But who would want to meet her if this was the attitude they saw being displayed toward them?

’Well, if you people were someone I wanted to meet, I would surely treat you with much more respect than you show me. But since that is not the case, can you take your attitude elsewhere? It is not needed here.’

Anabella wanted to say these words out loud. But she knew that her mother-in-law would have a stroke if she ever heard those words.

"Dear, you should leave Anabella be. I am sure she was tired, and came down as soon as possible to greet us. You should be more understanding toward her..."

"Keep your mouth shut! The only reason you took her side was because you were the one who wanted her to marry our son. If not for your choice, I could have found a better match for our son."

The female complained, ignoring that she had conspired with Anabella’s mother to approve this marriage.

There was no point in arguing with the angry alpha, so Anabella quietly took the seat she had been offered and ignored whatever else was happening around her.

When her mother arrived, her mother-in-law had much to say about the house and its condition.

"Why is this house so dirty? And all the furniture is out of place? What was the caretaker doing all this time? My daughter-in-law is so useless; she can’t even care for a caretaker and make her do her work.

Anabella, you must be strict with the caretaker and punish her if she does not do her job. Daniel, you also-"

"Mother, this is enough. I will not hear any more of it. Also, Anabella’s family is here. We should head to the dining room now."

Daniel was getting angry at his mother for pointing out Sharon’s flaws.

He had realized that these were all Sharon’s duties, but he did not want his lover to dirty his hands and clean up.

This was when he should have exposed that he had asked Sharon to be his caretaker, but he could not bring himself to speak up in front of his mother and Anabella’s family.

But there was only so much he would take. His mother subtly insulted Anabella, but her words criticized Sharon more than they did Anabella.
