Chapter 38: Ch 38: Air the place out - Part 1
"You can drop me here. My home is just one street away, and I will return alone. Thank you for dropping me till here."
Anabella quickly thanked the pair for dropping her by and avoided the worried looks her friends gave her.
She was not confident enough to look the pair in the eyes and answer any questions they would ask her.
Thankfully, the pair also considered her situation and did not ask much.
With a final ’take care’ from Clair, the pair left, and Anabella breathed a sigh of relief.
She was about to enter the building and her home when she noticed the gatekeeper looking away in shock and repulsion. The man was an alpha, and he only showed this expression when he smelled strong alpha pheromones.
It made Anabella suspicious about her scent, but since she could not smell herself or the pheromones clinging to her body, she had no idea what this man was sensing.
Still, she decided to brave herself and ask the guard about it.
"Excuse me, but do I smell heavily of alpha pheromones? My friend went too far while trying to keep me safe."
Anabella asked the guard, and the alpha made a repulsive face back at her.
"Ugh, ’went too far’ would be an understatement. The scent of the pheromones is so strong that it makes it difficult for even me to breathe, madam! Here, take this scent remover and throw this whole bottle on you.... although, I doubt that even that would help you out."
The guard seemed more uncomfortable by the second, and Anabella quickly backed off to give him more room to breathe.
She finished spraying herself with the pheromone suppressor, and the guard instantly looked better.
The pained expression was still on his face, but it looked easier for the man to breathe now than before.
She could tell that the guard had many questions about what had happened, and he even wanted to know if Anabella had cheated.
"Looks like my friends got too out of hand while marking each other. But it makes sense why these pheromones are so heavy. Marking another alpha with one’s pheromones must not be an easy task."
The guard looked like he had swallowed a lemon when he heard that.
"M-Madam, are you two friends alphas in a relationship and bonded? You should be careful around them. Alphas can get aggressive when they have other alphas with them. Even a bond won’t save you if one of them were to go feral."
The guard warned, but he came across as an asshole, even if he tried to warn Anbella and keep her safe.
Mating and bonding were the safest ways to ensure an alpha wouldn’t lose their mind. However, it was often believed that an alpha-alpha bond was not as secure as an alpha-omega or even an alpha-beta bond.
An alpha-alpha couple was only considered favorably if it was a gene match done to improve the genetic offspring.
But in the case of her friends, it was likely a love match and a genetic match.
Anabella had not paid much attention to the pair and their background, but she had heard about how they were from well-established and filthy rich families controlling a huge part of the world’s GDP.
Everyone wanted a piece of that pie, but Anabella ignored them to keep to herself more often.
As a result, she knew little about any of her classmates, including the pair she had been crushing on. That had not been an important factor in their friendship.
"Well, I, for one, believe that love can overcome such things. And even if it can’t, I trust my friends. I have known them for my whole life, and they are people who have never let me down."
That was Anabella’s telling her guard to keep his mouth quiet.
The man got the hint and stopped speaking. But he still looked worried and would likely report this to Daniel soon.
’Not that Daniel would care. I am sure he would be happy if anything happened to me. It would give him the perfect opportunity to be with his lover out in the open.’
Anabella sighed as she entered the main door to the house.
Sharon’s scent assaulted her senses as soon as she entered, making it difficult for her to breathe properly.
The other omega had saturated his place in her scent, and she had not left a corner untouched.
Anabella’s first instinct was to warp this place up in her scent in response and to take on the challenge the other omega was giving her.
But as soon as that thought crossed her mind, Anabella knew it was a bad idea. She reigned in her instincts and stepped inside.
Daniel was in the house with his lover and displayed their love in the open.
’With all this PDA, it’s a wonder James has not seen anything yet. Or maybe he has, and it traumatized the kid so badly to make him realize that it is not a good idea to come out when the pheromones got heavy like this.’
Anabella wanted to sigh but decided to warn the lovebirds by knocking at the door.
Daniel pulled back with a jolt, and he looked at Anabella angrily.
"What do you want? You were not supposed to come back home this soon. Just go out and do something."
The alpha was ordered in an irritated voice, and Anabella usually backed down and did as she was asked to.
But she felt irritated this time because her day had been ruined.
"I would love to spend the day out as well, but unfortunately, my mother said she is coming over for dinner with my family. Knowing my mother, I am sure she invited your mother and father as well.
So, we need to start preparing to receive them. First, we need to air this place out. Or would you like to explain why this place smells the way it does?"
