Chapter 23: Ch 23: The first visit - Part 2
"I get it. Next time you go out, make sure you wake me up. I do not want to get the same surprise next time. And if you are heading out of the house, also tell me. There are things I need you to bring back."
Clair told the taller alpha with a calm voice. She made her demands heard, and Noah did not seem to mind her actions.
Despite being the more dominant of the two, Noah seemed more laid back and unwilling to take things seriously.
Their playfulness and closeness were something Anabella did not expect.
After all, the last thing she remembered about these two was their intense rivalry and their constant conflict.
Somewhere along the way, this had lessened to the point where the pair could be with each other without snapping at the other.
"Looks like you both got close. I remember when all you used to do was fight each other. And from the sound of it, are you both living together? How did that come to happen?"
Anabella had little interest in knowing about it.
She liked the pair, and her instincts told her that it would be better not to hear the answer to what happened from them, or she would regret it.
But since she was not one to back down, Anabella knew she wanted answers, and she wanted them now.
That was why she ignored all the warning signals her mind sent her and asked this question outright.
Clair looked taken aback, but Noah answered her question with a beaming face.
"It’s been about a year since we started living together and dating. I don’t even remember how it started or who initiated it, but it is fun. You did not expect this to have happened, right?"
Noah asked with a smile, and he looked genuinely happy about this pairing.
Seeing him this happy made an ugly jealousy rise in Anabella’s stomach, which she quickly suppressed.
’I should not feel jealous of my friends. They have been nothing but supportive of me my whole life. Even if I have a crush on them, I must get past it and stop thinking about it.’
Anabella knew this was not right, but if emotions were that hard to control, she wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place.
Jealousy continued to overflow until a hint of it made its way to Anabella’s expression.
She realized it quickly and tried to mask it. However, her awkward expression told everyone that she did not know what to do anymore.
"Ah, well, enough about us. Tell us about yourself. How is life treating you? Are you having fun? I heard...you got married. I thought you said you hated marriages?"
Noah asked, and Clair not-so-subtly hit him over the head for this question.
"Don’t ask such heavy questions to a recovering patient. How many times do I have to tell you the same thing before it would stick in your head? *Sigh* I apologize for Noah’s thoughtlessness, Anabella. He’s too curious for his good."
Anabella knew it, so she did not take offense.
She also did not answer Noah, and her silence spoke for itself. No one raised this question again, and they all talked about their shared pasts.
Finally, after an hour of small talk and easy banters, Anabella relaxed and felt like herself again.
The tension that had been accumulating in her limbs started to lessen, and she was able to have a nice, calming time with her friends.
Of course, when time was such, something had to happen. And the culprit behind what happened this time was Noah.
"Hey, do you know that Clair had a binding kink? She likes to bind people with ropes and chains when she gets bored. She has tried to do that with me more than once, but I am too quick for her.
Clair, how about you try that with Anabella? She’s small enough for you to catch and tie up!"
The alpha doctor was red as soon as she heard those words.
Anabella had never seen anyone else turning this red this fast before, and she was quick to realize that this was a sexual thing.
Even her face broke out into a blush, but it did not last long once she realized the implications of Noah’s words.
’So, these two slept together. I knew that alphas could sleep together if they had feelings for each other, but I did not expect this to hurt me. I should start turning a blind eye to these people if I want to not get hurt anymore.’
Anabella closed her eyes as she suppressed the flinch she was about to have. Her smile was forced and it did not reach her ears, but she continued to be in this company.
"Tsk, stop exposing me like that...not that I have a kink like this. And it’s not like you are also a freak in bed. Don’t fall for his innocent expression, Anabella. Noah might initially be harmless and cute, but he’s a demon where it counts! Do not fall for his scamming face."
Clair was quick to turn the tables and make it all about Noah. But the joke was on her since it did not seem like Noah cared about being called a freak.
Noah looked happy to be called a freak, and Anabella felt it would be better for her not to ask for any details.
’The less I know about these two, the less I would be involved with them. I should keep my distance from them if I do not want to get hurt.’
After all, these two were a pair without room for a third, and Anabella was also married with a family to care for. Their relationship could never work out, even if they all wanted it to.
Minutes turned into hours, and before Anabella knew it, half a day had passed, and no one had come to visit her. It hurt, but this was not unexpected.
No one had time for her except these two people from her past.
