Chapter 22: Ch 22: The first visit - Part 1

It took Daniel fifteen minutes to realize that Anabella was not listening to the work he was saying.

Rage surged inside him as his alpha felt insulted. Daniel raised his hand before a firm slap echoed through the room.

The red print on Anabella’s face was proof of Daniel’s rage, but her unblinking and unnerving glare kept Daniel in check.

He wanted to bring his hand down Anabella’s cheeks again, but his arm had lost all power after that first slap.

"Tsk, I want you to pay attention next time and not make the same mistake. The only reason I am going easy on you this time is because you are sick. Otherwise..."

The alpha raged until he was out of the room.

This time, Anabella kept a neutral face, but her facade was finally broken once the alpha was gone. She turned to look beneath her covers where James was hiding and gestured for him to come out.

"You don’t have to be afraid anymore. Your father is gone, so you can escape hiding now."

Anabella assured the kid, and as soon as she noticed his eyes filling with tears.

None of these tears were for her. She knew that James was crying because he feared his father’s anger.

So far, Daniel had never gotten angry at James, so the younger had never heard his father sound angry toward him. This was the closest his father had come to yelling at him, but a misunderstanding had saved him from the scolding.

"What do I do, Anabella? Did I make a mistake? Is Father going to get rid of me now because of this?"

James asked in a terrified voice. He looked devastated that his father had been so angry at such a small thing.

Anabella wanted to assure the kid that his father was not angry because of what happened but because he thought Anabella had caused this mess.

Daniel loved James too much to get angry at him like that.

*Sigh*

’I am not even ready to be a mom, but I have to deal with a six-year-old kid who is depending on me for emotional support. I am not ready for this life.’

But ready or not, this was the life Anabella had been dealt with, and there was not much she could do to change it now.... not unless she handed her husband a divorce.

It was a good thing that they were not bonded.

"Listen, kid, what happened here remains between you and me. There is no need for your father to know what happened here. Just keep your mouth shut, and it will be all fine."

Anabella told the kid, but he did not look convinced. If anything, he looked even more scared than before.

"B-But that would be lying! I do not want to lie to my father about this. He would be even more disappointed if he knew-"

"James, there are times in life when even adults lie. We all understand that lying is a part of life, and we accept it. I promise your father won’t be angry if we keep quiet about this."

Even if James did not tell his father what happened, Anabella was sure that Daniel would try to get to the bottom of what happened.

She was slightly unsure about what would happen to her during all this.

’Well, knowing Daniel, he might also find a way to blame what happened to me. I won’t put it past him to do that.’

It made Anabella sigh in regret, mainly because she knew she could do nothing about it.

The best thing she could do now was recover and flaunt her health in Daniel’s face once she was all better.

...

James was no longer by her side when she worked up next time. But Anabella was not worried because she knew that this hospital was safe.

She remembered seeing Clair here as her previous doctor, and Anabella knew that Clair would take care of most things for her.

The omega needed to recover and ensure she was healthy enough to head back home...which was easier said than done.

When the door to her room opened and Noah walked in, Anabella was busy thinking about something.

The grey-haired teen looked even taller when Anabella was lying in the bed, and his presence made Anabella feel smaller than she was.

"Hey, how are you feeling right now? Is your body in pain? Can I help you out in any way?"

Noah asked, his eyes widening as he approached Anabella. He walked slowly but reached her quickly because he was tall.

Once he was near her, Noah’s brain seemed short-circuited, and he seemed to have no idea what to do anymore.

He looked her up and down, wondering what he was supposed to do to help her.

Noah was a gentle giant, but there was nothing gentle about his pheromones. They were sharp and covered Anabella, making her feel dizzy and owned. She wanted to bury herself in those pheromones and push them away simultaneously.

Just when she decided about it and was about to push herself up, the door opened, and Clair walked inside the room.

"I checked your chart and consulted your current doctor. You are...I was not aware that you were going to visit Anabella. If you had told me, then we could have arrived together."

The doctor spoke as she rubbed her forehead to get rid of the irritation she was feeling.

Noah beamed at her with a happy expression on his face. It was an expressive gesture that betrayed everything he felt at the moment.

"Sorry! I did not want to surprise you, so I did not tell you about this visit. I thought having too many people around simultaneously might get crowded."

Noah made an excuse, and Anabella understood where he was coming from.

Anyone else would have had their family visit them all the time, but not Anabella. This was the first visitor she had gotten after Daniel.
