Chapter 21: Ch 21: If that’s what Calms you down - Part 2

"Madam, may we approach the kid?"

The beta doctor asked, trying to use his lack of scent to put Anabella at ease. But despite his best efforts, Anabella did not let the young alpha go.

Her instincts recognized the kid as her savior and who had helped her. As such, she subconsciously wanted to protect him.

A panicked and enraged omega was a dangerous one. Doctors had no idea what they could do when such a situation occurred. Anabella refused to listen to the doctors, no matter what they said.

The door opened when all hope seemed lost, and a familiar figure entered the room.

"What is going on here? Where is the patient...I see what happened. You can leave it up to me."

Clair noticed what was happening, and she sighed. The doctors gave her a thankful look before they quickly dispersed.

The older female rubbed her forehead, almost as if bracing herself for something about to happen.

Once Claris was under control, she suppressed her pheromones and approached the tense pair.

"Anabella, can you hear me? Do you know who I am? You don’t have to be afraid anymore. I am here to help you-"

Clair’s slowly closed the distance between herself and Anabella. She almost touched him when a small hand scratched her arm.

James acted on instincts, but some of his hostility also slipped out. He did not feel safe having Clair close to Anabella, but it was not because she was bad or had a horrible nature.

He did not like that she was this close to Anabella and could even touch him.

"Alright, I won’t touch you. But I do need to observe you both. If that is fine with you, extend your hand toward me, and I will give you a shot to calm your pheromones down."

Clair’s voice was clear, breaking through the fog descending from Anabella’s mind.

She had no idea how or why, but Anabella reached out her arm and pulled back James’s arm simultaneously. Her eyes regarded Claris with barely hidden suspicion, but the alpha behaved herself.

Anabella shivered when she felt the alpha’s cold hands touching her arm. It felt incredibly calming, and Anabella almost fell asleep.

"Is it that relaxing? Should I touch you more? Will it make you feel better? Oops, I was joking. Don’t look so serious."

Clair’s raised her arms to show that she would not touch Anabella. But James’s glare did not ease up. If anything, he looked even more annoyed than before.

Anabella had enough sense to remember where she was this time, and she pulled James’s hand back before he could hurt the doctor.

"Come back to bed. You can take the kid with you if you want to, as well. But staying on the ground like that is not a good idea."

The lack of pheromones around Claris and her familiarity made Anabella trust her and allow her to come close. The female alpha did not help Anabella, but she kept an eye on her the whole time.

By the time Anabella was sitting in the bed, she had a half-asleep alpha kid clutching her covers while her friend took her vitals.

"Go to sleep and let the medicine do its work. I won’t be able to be your doctor after this because we have a history, but I will make sure to visit you plenty. Ah, if only I could continue to be your doctor. I would make sure to keep you in here with me."

Claris joked around, but her eyes looked serious. Anabella diverted her eyes and did not ask anything more.

Sleeping calmly was easy, especially with how much medicine had been pumped into her system. Hours had passed since Anabella opened her eyes again, but it was not a peaceful sleep.

Waking up was even worse since all Anabella heard was the loud yelling noises around her.

She forced her eyes to wake up and covered James’s ears so that these loud noises wouldn’t wake him.

Her husband was the culprit behind her discomfort. He looked tired and angry. She knew what would come even before her husband opened his mouth.

"What the heck were you thinking? Do you think it is funny? If you were sick, then you should have told me about it. Why did you let things come to this? Or, you could have stayed home and endured this. Why did you have to make a call to the hospital?"

Daniel sounded angry, and Anabella was more than aware of the press outside the door, listening to what was happening.

She tried to calm Daniel quietly, but the angry alpha would not listen to her.

As Daniel ignored three of her signals, Anabella knew there was no helping it. She stopped trying to help him and quietly looked down at her hands.

"You knew I would enjoy a quiet and peaceful dinner with my lover, and you could not handle it? So, you decided to sabotage me by doing this? I know it all by now. I know you like to play tricks, and I will not stand by it.

If you were so sick, how did you even make this call? Were you pretending all this time?"

Daniel asked, and Anabella noticed how James had stiffened against her body. The kid looked like he was ready to cry any second, and it made Anabella bad enough to take on all this abuse on herself.

The kid was awake, and he felt awful to hear his father speak such language, especially when he knew that this was mainly his fault.

Anabella could have ratted the kid out, but she knew it would only make things worse for her and the kid.

Daniel lacked the mental capability of using common sense, which caused him to lash out at the most unexpected things.

’Ah well, what else can I do but listen? Can time pass any quicker? I would prefer to do anything else. I wish I could tune Daniel out.’
