Chapter 20: Ch 20: If that’s what Calms you down - Part 1
An awkward silence descended across the room when Daniel opened his mouth. He closed it just as quickly, not wanting to sour the mood.
The doctors, nurses, and other patients looked at him accusingly, but the man did not care.
Daniel was only concerned about why he was called here and when he could return home. He had a lot planned with his lover, and this situation was holding him back.
"What’s happened? Are you seriously asking me what happens when it is *your* wife who is in this condition? Ugh, I don’t even know where to start from!"
The older alpha facepalmed when she heard her son’s careless words.
She knew that her son did not like Anabella and was indifferent to him, but she had still foolishly believed that he wouldn’t let the situation come to this.
What face was the mother left with after her son behaved like this? And what was even more embarrassing was the fact that he dared to bring his affair partner here without thinking. The media was about to have a field day with this.
’I will need to do some damage control later. I need to grill Daniel and make him realize he made a mistake.
"Mother, I don’t know what happened, so I am asking. My secretary called the caretaker, and she said everything was fine with my wife. I don’t understand what that woman did to end up like this."
Daniel is still tired of defending himself first and showing care for his wife later.
Sharon stepped forward and placed her hand on Daniel’s shoulder, seeing this as a good opportunity to earn some points.
"Mother, you should not scold Daniel like this. Especially not at this time and place. Rather, we should all be concerned about Anabella and pray she would be fine."
Sharon took charge of the situation before heading toward James to console him.
The second she touched James, he jerked back before he growled at Sharon. The young alpha was out of it, and his expression showed it.
He would have bitten Sharon, but his father’s shout stopped him.
"James, stay back!"
Daniel pulled Sharon behind his back before she could get hurt. The pair cautiously looked at James, almost like he was a beast they needed to be careful of.
"I...did not mean to..."
Even James looked stunned at what he had almost done to Sharon, and he quickly stepped back in disbelief.
"W-What did I-"
James looked out of it when he tried to speak. Daniel’s glare and heavy pheromones did not help the case.
Everyone was frozen, and no one moved. Then, a doctor finally came out to investigate, and he recognized the dangers of James’s condition.
The kid looked ready to go into shock due to excessive pheromonal ingestion.
"Please, stop this. Kid, you come with me. We finally stabilized that omega, so you might as well come inside and relax here. Staying in such a tense atmosphere is not good for you."
The doctor urged James to come inside and rest. The doctor also looked at everyone else cautiously, wondering if this was the right thing to do.
But in the end, he decided that it did not matter and he quickly ran inside.
"Daniel, control yourself. You scared James away."
Sharon spoke, finally getting her act together and making a sorry expression.
Her eyes blamed Daniel for what happened, making the alpha feel small and pathetic.
"You are right! I need to calm myself down. The only one to blame for what happened is Anabella. She should have known better than to get this sick and not ask for help."
Daniel’s accusation made his mother shake her head, but she knew there was no point in speaking to Daniel about it.
He was stubborn like her, so she knew he wouldn’t listen to a word she said to him.
...
"Kid, take deep breaths. You are doing great! But you might want to control your pheromones. We have a sick omega here who is not related to you. Your pheromones can put her in shock if you are not careful."
James panicked but relaxed as soon as he sensed those calming pheromones released by the other omega in the room.
The kid recognized those pheromones, even if he had only seldomly smelled them.
"She will be fine, right? I did not mean for Anabella to get sick. I just wanted to play with her...and for her to stop smelling like those unknown alphas."
James complained before he quickly realized that he had spoken out of line.
Moreover, the person he spoke about was a colleague (and possibly the boss) of these doctors.
He needed to be more careful with what he spoke and to whom.
*hic*
This possibility of being punished made James hiccup, and he quickly tried to mask it, but to no avail.
Luckily for him, Anabella chose that moment to wake up. When she opened her eyes, she saw James almost panicking.
She was moving before she knew it, and her arms closed around the kid. Her instincts recognized the kid as familiar, and Anabella grew up growling at the person standing opposite her.
The doctor looked startled and amused at the same time to see this. He raised his arms in warning to show that he did not mean any harm to the pair, but Anabella was not reassured.
Anabella’s instincts were in overdrive, and she felt like she saw double. She tried to blink her tiredness away, but it did not help. The more she tried to force it away, the faster it returned.
At this point, the medicine in her system had more influence over her actions than her conscious mind.
"This is not good. It looks like you are about to fall asleep. Should we lower the dose of sedatives in your system...I will take that as a ’no’ then."
The doctor pulled back when he noticed Anabella trying to scratch his hand. He knew the omega had rejected him, so he did not bother trying.
