Chapter 114: Ch 114: A Happy Family - Part 1
Sharon paced her living room, her phone clutched tightly in her hand. Every second that passed without answers felt like fuel to the fire burning inside her. After a deep breath, she finally gave in and dialed Anabella’s number.
The phone rang a few times before Anabella answered, her voice tired and annoyed.
"What do you want, Sharon?"
Anabella asked in a tired voice. It was clear that she had just woken up, and she was not in the mood to entertain the other omega.
Sharon realized this, but she also knew that she could not give up now. Anabella had to know what had happened and why Daniel had betrayed her like this.
"I’m not in the mood for more nonsense."
Sharon’s grip on the phone tightened once she heard Anabella’s tone. The younger omage sounded on edge and far more snappy than before. It made Sharon not want to talk to her.
And yet, she decided to take this chance and clear out the air between the pair.
"Do you know anything about Daniel’s new mate?"
Sharon demanded to know. She felt as if she should know all about it as someone Daniel loved. She continued to ask Anabella more questions.
"Someone called me saying he marked an omega. What are you going to do about it?"
Anabella sighed loudly at her question before she replied.
"I’m not going to do anything. Daniel is not my problem anymore. I don’t care what mess he’s gotten himself into."
Anabella’s answer sounded logical, and yet, it felt wrong. Anabella was not married to Daniel, but she was married to him. Was she truly not going to do anything about it and ruin her married life?
"Are you serious?"
Sharon ended up snapping at the omega on the other side of the phone.
"You are married to him! Do you think you can just walk away and pretend none of this matters? What would your mother say?"
Sharon asked, trying to scare Anabella into seeing reason. But Anabella just sighed harder before she replied back.
"Yes, I can walk away from it. Just wait and watch. As for mother, she no longer has any grounds to speak to me about this. I’m done cleaning up after Daniel. You should be, too."
Before Sharon could argue further, Anabella ended the call. Staring at the silent phone, Sharon cursed under her breath and hurled it onto the couch.
"Damn it, Daniel. You’d better hope I find you before anyone else does."
Sharon raged, but in her heart, she knew that she was feeling broken. She had never felt like this before, and her heart felt like it would leap out of her chest and stab her.
Meanwhile, Anabella stared at her phone, still feeling annoyed by the conversation. She was exhausted from being dragged into Daniel’s messes, and Sharon’s anger didn’t help.
She had walked out of Daniel’s life when he asked her to, but it seemed as if her life did not want her to drag herself out of this mess.
"I’m done. No more getting involved."
Anabella spoke to herself, but her words sounded hollow. Her fate seemed to be mocking her and Anabella closed her eyes to block the world out. She was done with this all.
Deciding that she had wasted enough energy, Anabella tossed her phone onto the nightstand and lay down, determined to forget about Daniel and his chaotic life.
After all, she had her own life to live now, which did not involve Daniel.
______
Daniel stood in the dimly lit room, his fists clenched at his sides. Across from him stood Lola Miers, her bright eyes locked onto his with an intensity that made him uncomfortable.
The more he looked at her, the more he felt the pull toward her. She was his marked mate, and his blood sang for her. He wanted to engulf her in his arms, but it felt like he would betray Sharon if he did that.
"Daniel, you marked me. You can’t just leave me now."
The omega had a sweet lull in her words that made Daniel become attracted to her. Every time he heard her speak, he felt as if he should give in and follow whatever she wanted him to do.
Daniel had felt like this toward Sharon before, but the pull had never been this strong.
He struggled against the unwanted emotions swelling inside him. He wanted to be angry, but the bond was too strong. His instincts screamed at him to protect her, even though his mind resisted.
"I didn’t ask for this. This wasn’t supposed to happen. In fact, you made me mark you. If not for you, then I..."
Daniel trailed off as he spoke. His words got stuck in his throat as he tried to force them out. The more he tried, the more he realized that he could not speak up. It felt as if his throat was being choked.
Lola took a small step closer, her voice soft but firm as she reached out to touch him. Her hand landed on Daniel’s cheeks before he pulled back and gave her an acidic glare.
"Maybe not, but it did. You feel it too, don’t you? You can’t deny it. You love me already. It is only a matter of you accepting it."
Lola’s words rang like truth in Daniel’s ears. He wanted to deny her accusations and firmly tell her that he did not like her, much less love her. But whenever he looked up at her, his heart skipped a beat.
In his eyes, all he could see and smell was Lola, and the bond he shared with her because of his mistake made him unable to ignore her.
Daniel clenched his jaw. Every word she spoke twisted the bond tighter around him, making it harder to think clearly. And yet, he felt the need to speak clearly and clear out the air between them.
"I already have someone. I can’t... I won’t do this to you and her."
