Chapter 47: Seeing Landon Across the Street

Chapter 47: Seeing Landon Across the Street

Lucy stepped out of the taxi, her gaze landing on the sleek exterior of the café that stood just across the skyscraper that is the Westwood Group building. The café was already filled with people who were having a peaceful time as they went about their day with coffees on their tables.

But she was here for coffee or the ambiance.

Lucy spotted Chelsea through the window. Already seated by the glass front, she was fidgeting with the handle of her cup.

Chelsea’s call came unexpectedly but was much welcomed. Lucy thought Chelsea would need more time to gather her thoughts and make a decision. After all, it made sense for her to question Lucy’s intentions and purpose in helping her.

Pushing open the door, a bell chimed softly above Lucy’s head. She took a long glance around the interior of the café, just like a normal customer looking for a vacant table or a companion, but in truth, she was searching for any signs of betrayal. What if Chelsea decided to run her down the bus? That would’ve been disastrous for the beginning of her revenge.

Chelsea got a great seat. It was right by the glass wall that allowed them to get the best view of the front of Westwood Group.

Lucy approached the table and saw the other woman looking up, a faint, almost guarded smile tugging at her lips.

"You’ve come," Chelsea said with a slight surprise. She thought Lucy wouldn’t meet her after thirty minutes passed from their scheduled meeting.

Lucy pulled the chair across from her and sat down. She raised a fine eyebrow and said, "You called me here. It would be rude not to after the last time we spoke in the parking lot."

Chelsea nodded deeply. She rubbed her hands, noticing how they had become sweaty after waiting for half an hour for Lucy to arrive.

Lucy stared at her. "I’m hoping you called me here because you’ve decided already."

Chelsea swallowed hard. She looked away and took a deep breath.

Then she turned to meet Lucy’s gaze.

"Are you really going to help me?"

"That’s what I said last time."

Chelsea bit her lips, feeling even more nervous now that this opportunity was in front of her.

She still wondered why Lucy was helping her. Why did she come to her? She was just an ordinary person who endured a lot of mistreatment from other people. But she was used to it because despite being treated like a slave, she still earned her money through her job.

Moreover, Chelsea even thought there would be no point in trying to defend herself or going up against people like Emma and her other two friends, who lived a different world from her, as it would only make her life even more miserable by offending them.

Until Lucy came to her.

That’s when she realized that she could no longer endure.

"I want them to taste the same humiliation I experienced." Chelsea’s eyes burned with determination.

Lucy could see Chelsea’s desire to get revenge. But sadly, it was not enough.

Determination alone won’t get Chelsea far. The moment she realized her path was blocked by a wall, the burning fire inside her would soon be extinguished.

"Can you kill a person?" she asked.

The question caught Chelsea off guard; her face looking shocked.

After a moment, she shook her head and opened her mouth to respond.

"Killing? That’s a bit..."

"Is it too much?" Lucy asked, as if she didn’t know the answer to her question. She could sense that Chelsea also thought it was too much.

In the real world, murder was a crime punishable by law.

"You—you’re not trying to make me a criminal, are you?" Chelsea drew back. Fear filled her heart as she thought that Lucy would ask her to do something dangerous.

Lucy laughed. "Of course not. Even I wouldn’t be so extreme. I’m not a psychopath."

"Then..."

"But murdering someone without actually killing exists." Lucy tapped the table with her fingernail, letting the soft rhythmic sound enter her ears. "It doesn’t have to be done bloodily. Just making it painful that they’d want to die would be enough."

Lucy learned of this, not because she had done it before. But because she experienced it a few times already. Her heart was torn out of her chest twice when she left Landon and when her son passed away. The Lucy Grey everyone knew died that day.

Now, she has become a new woman. Stronger, fiercer, and much crueler.

Taking a deep breath to keep her emotions in control within her, Lucy stopped tapping the table. She refocused on Chelsea, who sat across from her and looked somewhat uncertain.

She leaned forward, her voice low and deliberate. "Chelsea, if I asked you to do something, no matter how difficult, could you do it?"

Chelsea’s brows furrowed as she hesitated. "I... I don’t know. It depends on what you want me to do. I’m not sure if I—"

Before Chelsea could finish, Lucy cut her off, her lips curling into a sneer. "That’s enough."

"What?"

"You’re not ready, Chelsea. You don’t have it in you." Lucy pushed herself up from the chair, the legs scraping against the floor, and she grabbed her bag from the chair. "I don’t need someone who can just throw their hands and stop halfway. You can delete the video and forget what has been done to you. Treat it as if it’s just a dream. Maybe then you will feel safer and satisfied with your decision to become weak."

Chelsea’s eyes widened, but she didn’t argue. She watched as Lucy walked away and headed toward the exit. A mixture of regret and disappointment washed over her because Lucy was right. She didn’t have what it takes to stand up for herself.

But that was when she was alone...

Just as Lucy walked out of the café, a black sedan rolled to a stop in front of the Westwood Group building, the tires crunching over the gravel. She halted, her breath catching in her chest as she caught sight of the vehicle’s license plate. It was one she had memorized in countless sleepless nights.

The driver’s door swung open, and a man stepped out in a tailored suit.

It was Landon Westwood.
