Chapter 62: Chapter 62: QUARREL

’Is he crazy?’ that’s all she could think about as her head was lowered while listening to him shouting and pouring his heart out.

"... of all people, Emma. You have been with her the longest. How could you let her just roam with a stranger, just like that? How could you trust a stranger with your Miss? Are you tired of your life?" Quinn yelled angrily as he looked at the two women who had let him down.

Every time he recalled how she was beaming and allowing him to touch her in that gazebo, admiring the flowers, Quinn felt like blowing up.

He knew that he couldn’t confront Zara and ask her about it. He didn’t want to pressure her or expose a side of his that she didn’t know about. So, the best he could do was attack these two women, whose sole job was to look after Zara.

"Young master, is there really any need for you to scold us like this?" Ava questioned as she raised her head to face the unreasonable young man who couldn’t accept defeat.

It wasn’t like it was her fault that he was holding a torch for their miss. Why did he have to vent his anger on them?

"You ... you dare to answer and with such a rude comment?" Quinn glared at Ava, who was so bold to retort while glaring at him as if they were at the same level.

"Young master, you are being unreasonable here. It’s not like we didn’t tell you the reason why Princess had to meet with that man!"

"Hehe, it’s not like I didn’t know. If you knew, why didn’t you tell me that before I took the men out to search for the damn ring?" he shouted at the two, his fists clenching at the thought of being deceived by them.

"We were following the Miss’s order!" Emma solemnly retorted without any care what Quinn would think about her response.

"You ... following her orders! Have you also forgotten that I am here too?" he angrily questioned as his blue eyes dimmed a bit while keeping his glare at the two.

"Hehe, listening to you saying it like this. Does this mean that I the mistress and owner of everyone don’t even have a right to command my people and the people I pay every single damn month?" from nowhere and suddenly, Zara’s voice sounded by the door, shocking the three people who were inside the room.

’Shit! When did she arrive?’ that’s all Quinn could think about, blaming himself for being so reckless and relaxed that he didn’t even hear the door opening.

"Miss, why are you still awake at this time?" both Emma and Ava asked worriedly at the same time upon seeing her awake.

Zara sneered as she shifted her focus to Quinn, who was showing a side she had never seen before.

"You really know when to pick a time to scold my people, Quinn!" she scoffed as she looked at the little brother who was getting more unruly as time passed.

"Princess .. I .... You ... it’s not like that!" Quinn stuttered as he tried to explain himself since he had been caught off guard without expecting such a thing to happen.

"Hehe, I only believe what I see right now!" she ruthlessly said, before turning to Emma and Ava. "You two, go out and rest. We will talk in the morning."

Emma and Ava didn’t dare disobey Zara. That was the first time they saw Zara being angry, and at Quinn to make things sour for everyone. These two siblings were very close, though it seemed that only Zara was slow-witted and didn’t understand Quinn’s feelings for her.

Not wanting to be caught in the sibling’s crossfire, Emma and Ava retreated respectfully before closing the door, this time to make sure that no one would disturb the two.

Inside the study, Quinn stood motionless as he thought of how Zara was going to deal with him. He had never seen her so angry like that in the fifteen years they had been together.

When she overheard that she was dying, she accepted her fate and never fussed because of it. However, that was now no longer the case as he found himself facing an angry Zara, something that was completely different from what he saw when she was in the field of flowers earlier that day.

Was it really impossible for him?

Zara took in deep breaths as she looked at the young man she had been with for years. He was the closest person she would ever ask for, apart from Emma and Ava. And yet the same person was the one who had the guts to cast her aside in authority. Who gave him the right?

"Quinn!" she called him softly as she looked at him with her deep blue eyes while she sorted out her words in her mind.

"Princess!"

"Quinn. Besides my parents, you, Emma, and Ava are the closest people I have in my life. When I was three months old, it was Emma who took care of me until this very day. When I was sick and many nurses resigned, it was Ava who stood by my side to make sure that I wouldn’t drop dead at any time."

"When I was lonely and needed a sibling, I found you, Quinn, and on that day, I hoped that I would finally have a sibling who would remain by my side just like my other siblings. I treated you well like a blood brother, and never once did I try to make you feel like an outcast."

"To me, it didn’t matter what your background was. As long as you were my baby brother, who would always protect me and shield me from the cruelty of the world, I was fine with it. Call me selfish a bit, but who cares? Can’t I be willful for once?"

"I hoped as I watched the day of doom nearing every single day that on the day I pass on, you will be there by my side without leaving me. I didn’t want to disappear from the world without you by my side. At least with you by my side, I would go to the afterworld in peace without any worries. You are that important to me. That’s what I am trying to say."

"But can you tell me why you, the person I trust the most, would do this to me? Why would you interrogate the people I consider my elders deep down in my heart as if they are your subordinates? Quinn, before these people answer to you, my dear brother, they answer to me. I am the one who pays them and allows them to eat all the good food they do. I am their owner and as everyone’s owner, what gives you the right to tell me that I am not allowed to command my people? What gives you the audacity, Quinn?" Zara questioned angrily as her eyes became teary at the thought of Quinn’s willfulness.
