Chapter 114: Chapter 114: I WILL REMAIN BY YOUR SIDE ALWAYS!
"How did you know I have wanted this figurine?" Zara asked curiously as she looked at Quinn while holding a slightly chubby pig figurine in her hands.
Quinn flicked her forehead lightly without leaving a mark with a doting smile on his face, "I am the worm in your stomach, don’t you know?" before teasingly saying.
"Hehe, just don’t finish my food while you are at it!"
The two childhood friends and siblings joked with each other and that continued until all gifts were revealed.
They ranged from dolls, figurines, photo books, magazines, and trinkets. There wasn’t any gift like Amir’s which consisted of clothes, jewelry or bags. It was the small things which couldn’t be found in one place which he gifted to her.
And the fact that he remembered to pick every single item she had shown interest in the past year, showed how attentive he was to her. And that feeling of having someone who understood and knew her like that, made her feel blessed.
There is someone who cares deeply like him. Even when she is feeling discontent, he will be the first person to see that. What more could she ask for?
As she lay in his arms, being carried back to her room with her eyes closed, Zara thought smilingly.
It was unfortunate that they couldn’t be anything more than what they were now. If Amir hadn’t appeared in her life, she was certain that if she had lived and didn’t die due to the curse, she would have settled with Quinn.
He was someone who had stayed by her side for a long time. And she had shown him all sides of hers that would make her embarrassed if she showed them to Amir or someone else.
He knew her like the back of his hand. So why should she suffer and find someone else?
Unfortunately, Amir still showed up and messed up everything. But as she looked at it, it wasn’t that bad, actually. Everything does happen for a reason. Just like how Amir once talked to her about fate. Fate is a tricky thing and sometimes defying it was complete nonsense.
Once something is written, it becomes difficult to rewrite it. Unless a person comes across a miraculous encounter.
She was probably determined to be sick at the age of eight. Suffer so much for fifteen years and before she could die, a chance was given to her. And everything just happened because she found it a pity to die without being a good daughter. Thanks to that thought, she was graced by a blessing which made her feel better today.
She didn’t know what the future holds, and what fate was planning for her. But all she knew now, as Quinn covered her gently with a blanket, as if he didn’t want to arouse her from her deep sleep, what is meant to be will be and what is not will not be.
Just before she could think deeply about confessing to Quinn when she was in Lingren village, the same night she got a message from Amir shattering that thought from ever emerging again.
She couldn’t have Quinn as her soul and life partner, but he could stay by her side as her brother. She was a bit selfish. For the first time, she wanted to get everything because she knew pretty well that living without Quinn, despite having Amir, would be difficult.
She just wished that he could remain by her side forever. Was it too much?
She didn’t get the answer as she fell into a deep slumber before she could process her thoughts.
Quinn looked at Zara, who was snoring softly, the blankets rising slightly up and down which made him smile.
Seeing and hearing that, he was at ease knowing that she was alive and nothing had yet happened to her. Looking at the watch, only two hours were remaining till the clock struck midnight.
Zara was born early in the morning, forty minutes after midnight. It was only Zara, the protagonist, who could go to sleep without worry. Recalling those ominous words which had accompanied everyone at the mansion for fifteen years, Quinn knew that no one would be sleeping until that time passed.
As for him, he would keep guard and watch her sleep with his own eyes, just to make sure.
As he looked at her, however, he couldn’t help but brush away the strands of hair which kept on falling on her forehead. Her skin was very warm and soft to the touch.
It was unfortunate that she wasn’t hers. As much as he wanted to fight for her, he knew that he lost the day he let her leave the mansion. If she hadn’t left the mansion that day, would Amir have seen her?
Knowing that the wolf entered their mansion to only fall in love with Zara, he felt like a joke. However, recalling the man’s sincerity towards Zara, he felt a bit at ease.
Although it hurt him to admit it, maybe Amir was the right choice for her. He wanted the best for her. Wanted her to live and go around the world, adventuring with a smile on her face. And Amir was capable of making that happen.
And recalling that ring which was stuck on Zara’s finger. Quinn sighed dejectedly as he raised his hands to his temples to massage them.
"Whatever!" he cursed lightly as he made himself comfortable on the other side of the bed. "I will just be selfish in silence like this. Let me stay by your side forever, even as a younger brother and a guardian. I am willing!"
That was the best promise he could make to her. As a human being, he was greedy for more, but for the sake of his loved one, can’t a person curb a little?
Sighing once again as he looked at that small face, Quinn took out his phone and with a few taps, someone entered the room.
"Are you sure we need to do this?" Emma asked worriedly as she looked towards Zara, who was sleeping soundly.
Quinn exhaled deeply as he looked at Emma before nodding resolutely, saying, "We can’t have everyone call us every ten minutes. Can we? What if that disturbs her sleep?"
Upon hearing that, Emma could only nod before releasing the drone, which was in her hands, into the air. "Then I will leave this to you. If anything happens, just .... We are in the living room. I bet that they will be here anytime soon as well!" Emma said solemnly as her gaze shifted from Quinn to Zara.
Quinn smiled wryly, understanding what the older lady was talking about and nodded. "I know. Just prepare to welcome them. I will start!" he said as he sent Emma away.
Emma gave one last glance towards the sleeping Zara before walking away reluctantly, her fists clenched and veins popping on her arms.
’This better be good!’ she thought as her eyes turned red for a second before getting calm.
