Chapter 103: Chapter 103: ANGUISH

"Bradley, I honestly don’t have any beef with your mother, but I have tolerated her for years. She had always found something degrading to say about my daughter. It doesn’t matter if she says that to me alone, but why did she have to make it look like it was a great crime for my baby to hold on to the rope of hope? To think that the fame and wealth of the family matters more than my daughter, who is she to say that to me? Just because both her children are faring well, she doesn’t understand how I feel. But what if it’s you or Brexley who were in the same situation as Zara? Would she continue blurting nonsense like she had been doing all these years?" the more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

"You _"

"I might love this kind of lifestyle, but my baby means so much to me. So please, don’t just ask me to forgive and forget as if it’s nothing. This was the first time I had met my daughter after so long. Do you know and understand how it feels like being able to sit on the same couch with her? For crying out loud, even coming closer to her a few months ago was impossible. And yet just when my baby was having fun and telling us about her wonderful trip, Selena had to mess things up. Do you really want Zara to die that badly? Doesn’t she know that her heart is still weak? How could .... How could she be so cruel?" Lena teared up as her fists were balled while glaring hatefully at Selena, who was no longer looking as arrogant as she was before.

Hearing all that, everyone who was present maintained their silence. The words didn’t sound right and pleasing to the ears. Just imagining that it was them on the receiving end, no words to argue, could be found.

Even Bradley looked helplessly at his mother. He understood the pains of his mother, but this time; she had gone too far and if he continued to implore Lena; he didn’t know what his gloomy father sitting there holding Lena’s hand would do.

His father was fine as long as he didn’t open his mouth when angered. The last time he was truly furious, Ashely and at that time he was still Axton, was disowned. If it wasn’t for Zara intervening and pleading for him, he wouldn’t have been part of the family again as Ashely is now.

"She can come at me, but please leave my daughter in this. If something happens to her this time, trust me, I will do everything in my power to make you experience the same pain. My baby told me that she would live after her birthday and that’s exactly what I want to see. Don’t let any harm fall on her, Selena. Words have power and don’t ruin anything. Just don’t!" Lena threatened with red eyes as she glared at Selena.

Ashely witnessing all that, couldn’t help but feel suffocated. No one would understand how panicked she was at that time when she saw Zara’s condition.

Seeing her clutching her heart as if she couldn’t breathe reminded her of the time which was the last time Zara left her villa. Because of her unwillingness to see Zara being spoiled despite wasting the family’s money on medication when her condition was never getting better, she caused a tantrum.

And it was one that nearly took Zara’s life. Of course, her father punished her greatly back then. All allowances were taken and all help and connections were stripped away from her. It was the most miserable moment she had ever experienced in her life.

And to imagine that she was that cruel to the one person who had always believed her from day one and supported her secretly, her heart ached. She was filled with so much guilt and shame that seeing anyone bullying Zara, she just couldn’t take it.

And it even made her so furious when that person was Selena. Selena was overbearing to everyone. Something in her, maybe her delusion, always made her think that she was still Cade’s wife, and that led to her demanding respect and unreasonable treatment from everyone.

Just who was she?

So, seeing Lena, this deceitful wife who managed to survive for over two decades without being cheated on and scolding Selena, her suffocation began to lessen.

However, when she recalled how her fifth sister was left connected to those machines, she had never hidden how much she hated them, and her mood worsened again.

’I hope she is well!’

After Lena vented out her anger, Cade dismissed everyone. Unless he called for them, he didn’t want to see anyone dropping by the mansion. It was all for the sake of Zara. What if they say the wrong things and send his daughter to an early grave?

He didn’t want to even think of such things happening, but can he predict what people would do or say?

So, to avoid any such things from happening, he dismissed everyone. They would meet at Zara’s birthday banquet.

And since he had spoken, what else could they say?

They could only leave the mansion with gloomy expressions, all of them with mixed emotions.

Left behind were Cade and Lena, who were now talking to Emma and Ava.

As soon as everyone left the mansion, the two ladies were called over to report on how Zara was doing.

"Currently, she is sleeping. It’s been a long day and with the doses of medicine, it’s inevitable for her to not sleep!" Ava responded to the couple.

Lena sighed with relief, her hand never leaving Cade’s.

"It’s good then. It’s good!"

Emma smiled faintly at Lena and said, "Madam, don’t worry. Miss is tenacious and since she is determined to live, nothing and no one will take that away from her."

"That’s true. Otherwise, my baby wouldn’t have done what she did before. And talking about this, do you know what my baby was about to say before the fiasco happened?" Lena asked curiously as she looked imploringly at the two ladies who were stuck by Zara’s side 24/7.

The two ladies looked at each other before they nodded to each other and turned to look at the couple.
