THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 91: SURPRISE SURPRISE!

Chapter 91: SURPRISE SURPRISE!

The air became awkward when Gabrielle left Fay, and Ace alone in the dining room.

Fay silently continued eating, in hopes to fill the awkwardness with food.

Ace, standing with his back turned to her, took a deep breath, and turned around.

"How are you feeling?" He asked in a sincere and mellow tone.

She looked up as she picked the last piece of her food and dumped it into her mouth.

"I’m fine," she covered her mouth to answer.

"Are you sure? You heard the doctors. You should speak up if you’re feeling off."

"You didn’t seem to care about their opinion when you forced me out of their house," she began, and paused when she realized she had spoken aloud.

A tiny gasp escaped her throat, and her eyes widened as her eyes came to rest on him.

He didn’t flinch, neither did he look disturbed. If anything, she noticed, he looked amused. The corner of his lip twitched, and his eyes twinkled.

Maybe it was her silly hope playing tricks on her again. But he really did not seem offended. Anyway, she could only hope he didn’t. And hope she did, as she held her breath.

"They wouldn’t give me their address. What should I have done?" He asked, more entertained than he was willing to admit.

There was something about knowing that she had a fire beneath all that calmness she exuded. She had thought she was speaking in her mind. That told him her mind was an interesting place.

He wished he could get a sneak peak. To see all the rebuttals she had to sift through just to remain kind.

"Nothing. It’s fine," she said, rising to her feet. He wasn’t angry. She would take that victory, and not push him until he becomes vexed.

"You’re lying," he said, walking up to her.

She was gathering the plates on the table when she felt his presence before her. Inhaling sharply, she lifted her head and found him staring at her with that same vivid amusement in his eyes.

"Why would I lie?" She asked.

"So you heard what I said, and pretended not to?"

She sighed. "I just don’t want you to get mad," she confessed.

He chortled in disbelief. "Get mad at what?"

She knew she was about to say something she may very well regret in the future. The future being exactly thirty seconds from now, but she just couldn’t hold it in anymore.

"My opinion. From the day we met up until now, it has always been your way or the highway. I respect it because you’re far above me in terms of a whole lot of things. I’m used to it anyway. I’ve never been in a position where my opinions matter. Why bother?" She shrugged.

Her words were like an instant gunshot to his head. She really felt like she didn’t matter. All this while, he was irritated at how docile she was. It turned out that he had also encouraged that docility.

Sure, at first he wanted to remind her he was king in his palace, but he had secretly expected a challenge.

Reign would laugh in his face if he had done that to her. Now he realized why.

She had grown up with a wealthy father who everyone feared. That strong-willed character was instilled in her from the very beginning.

For Fay, the opposite was the case. She grew up with a woman who stifled every form of self-expression she had. It showed in the adult she became.

And in a bid to reinforce his power, further clipped the wings she could have sprouted.

"I’m– I’m sorry," he said to both their surprise.

Her mouth instantly went agape. A fly could have passed by at that moment and she still wouldn’t have closed her mouth.

It didn’t feel like her ears had just heard correctly. Perhaps those words came from someone else. She would rather believe a ghost had just apologized than Ace himself.

"I really am," he doubled down when he realized she was too speechless to respond.

"Th– thank you?" She said without surety in her tone, when she finally found her voice.

"Fay," he took a step towards her when the door flung open, and Reign stepped into the dinning room.

"Ma’am, I said you can’t be here!" Frank, one of the gate guys, ran after her.

Marilyn and Alice quickly dashed into the room too.

Ace whipped his head behind, and his eyes darkened immediately.

"What are you doing in my house? How did you get in here?" He asked, as his heart began to thump.

"That one over there," she pointed at Frank who was shuddering from fear. "He’s stupid and not fit to be a gateman. If you don’t want intruders in your home, fire him." She smiled sinisterly.

Fay who thought she had gotten over the shock of Ace’s apology became shocked again when she saw Reign.

She couldn’t stop being awed by how intimidating she was. A confident woman who was so sure of herself. Her Aunt would never have been able to intimidate someone like her.

"Second time, Frank. I’ll get back to you later. You, come with me." He pointed at Reign.

She scoffed. "Who said I came here for you?"

His eyes squinted at her. "What else would you be here for?"

"I came to see my co wife," she said, bringing her gaze to Fay.

Fay’s eyes widened for the umpteenth time. She couldn’t be referring to me, could she? She thought in her head.

Maybe Ace had married her, and didn’t remember that he did? She had seen people make silly mistakes like that.

A memory suddenly formed in her head. Back in the car. She had perceived alcohol, but that wasn’t the only thing she did.

It finally clicked. The night of their wedding. The day at the hospital. And most recently, the car. It was her scent. He had also reeked of her scent.

While she was fighting for her life, he had been playing house with Reign.

The realization was like a shove into the deep abyss. She just kept on falling and falling without any end in sight.

"You shouldn’t be jealous.".

Those particular words had rung in her head since the very first time she saw Reign. Because in truth, she had no right to be.

But as she stood there looking so compatible with Ace, coupled with the knowledge she had about Ace’s whereabouts last night, her envy rivaled the green of her eyes.

"What co wife? What nonsense are you talking about, Reign?" Gabrielle who had heard the woman’s voice as she returned with a tray of muffins in her hand, queried as she entered into the dinning room.

"Ma’am Gabrielle. I didn’t know you were also here. I guess it’s a full house," she continued in a singsong voice, that sinister smile not leaving her face.

"You three, please excuse us," Gabrielle said.

Alice, Marilyn, and Frank turned around, and quietly but swiftly exited the room, but not before Fay caught the expressions on the women’s faces.

They pitied her. Why wouldn’t they? She was pitiable. Always falling into these messed up situations. It was draining. She was drained.

"What are you talking about, Reign?" Gabrielle pressed, as she dropped the tray of muffins on the table.

"oouii! Muffins!" She clapped, moving to the table, and grabbing one. "I think our son would love muffins the way you do. Don’t you also think so, Ace?" She directed at him as she munched on the muffins.

Fay’s heart skipped a beat. She definitely couldn’t have heard correctly. There was absolutely no way in hell she had just heard what she thought she heard.

It was a joke right? Her eyes went to Ace, fully expecting it to be filled with fury like it usually was when he was appalled by something.

To her greatest surprise, she saw a flash of guilt. It was so quick and subtle that it could have been easily missed if she wasn’t so quick to look at him.

She became numb. Pushing deeper into her head, until she was safe from the problem that was Ace Atticus.

"Reign, let’s talk in private," he said between his teeth.

"We’ve already done all we needed to do in private, last night. You refused to use protection and now, I may very well be pregnant. Oh I can’t wait for the next few weeks to find out. I think it’s real this time, baby." She blew him a kiss.

Gabrielle staggered back, and almost fell to the ground.

Ace dashed forward and was quickly by her side, steadying her.

"Mum, are you okay?"

"Don’t touch me, Ace. Please, don’t," she said breathlessly.

Reluctantly, he obeyed, and stepped aside.

"Please tell me it’s not true, Ace. You didn’t sleep with her while we were worried about your wife," she pleaded with tears in her eyes.

Fay heard everything that was being said, but had buried herself so deep, she couldn’t feel the sting just yet.

"Mum—"

"Did you cheat on your wife, Ace!" She yelled.

Ace buried his head. For the very first time, too ashamed to say a thing.
