THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 266: END ZONE
Chapter 266: END ZONE
Fay opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was the white ceiling above her.
She tried to move, but her body felt too stiff.
Closing her eyes, she took calm breaths before opening them again.
"Ace?" She tested her voice, and relaxed when she saw she could talk.
The sound of a door opening reached her ears, but she still couldn’t turn her body in its direction.
"Fay?" She heard a voice she recognized. "You’re awake!"
The excited voice became even clearer, as she felt them beside her.
Straining her body, she looked up, and saw Alexander.
"Hello," she managed to say.
"You’re really awake," he said, relief heavy in his voice.
"Where’s Ace? And Dream. Where’s my grandfather?" She gasped, and tried to raise her body.
"You can’t move, Fay. Not yet. I’ll call another doctor and we’ll check you, okay?"
She nodded, and he quickly hurried out of the room.
An hour later, Fay could feel her body again. She could even sit straight, and move her feet on the bed.
Leighton, who had been called, hurried into the room the second she arrived at the hospital.
She paused when she saw Alexander, seated on a chair besides Fay’s bed.
"Hello Leighton." He turned his head behind when he felt her presence.
Quickly getting over the shock of seeing him, she hurried to the bed, ignoring him.
"Fay, it’s me," she announced, grabbing her hand in hers.
"Oh Leighton, what happened to Ace? Where is Dream? Alexander won’t tell me anything!" She said in a worried tone.
"You need to relax first. You haven’t fully recovered. When you’re strong enough, I’ll tell you everything, okay?"
"But where is Dream? Why isn’t she with you?"
"I couldn’t bring her just yet. But don’t worry, you’ll see her soon."
A few minutes later, Fay drifted into sleep again.
Alexander used that opportunity to talk to Leighton, who looked like she didn’t have anything to say to him.
"Are her vitals okay?" Leighton asked.
"Yeah, surprisingly so. She woke up easily, without any complications," he said.
"Then it wouldn’t be long until the hospital allows her to go home?"
"I’d have to talk to the chief. He’s the only one that can answer that question."
"Where’s the chief? I’ll talk to him myself."
"Leighton?" Alexander called.
"Don’t. I just want to talk to the chief in charge of her health," Leighton insisted.
"I know. I just wanted you to know that I—-"
She didn’t wait for him to complete whatever he had to say.
Walking away as he was still talking, she moved past the door, and shut it behind her.
She went straight to Cam who was in charge of security around the floor Fay was being kept.
"Do you have any idea where I can find the chief in charge of Fay?" She asked.
"I think so. How’s she doing? Did you tell her?"
"Tell her Ace has been in jail for one week? I don’t think that’s the kind of news a recovering coma patient needs to hear. Take me to the chief, Cam."
Half an hour later, Leighton left the chief’s office, satisfied by the response he gave her.
She got a call from Landon, just as she was returning to Fay’s room.
"Is it true?" He asked the second she answered.
"Yes, Fay is awake. Dream is at the Atticus mansion. She’s fine," she said reassuringly.
"Great. I’m at the police station. If things go smoothly, Ace will be out today."
"That’s good news. And the other thing?"
"I’ll let you know when we see. Love you."
"I Love you too."
She ended the call, and sighed. Lifting her head, she began to move closer to the door, when she caught sight of someone that looked oddly familiar.
They were walking besides a doctor, going towards Fay’s room too.
On closer inspection, the face, poorly hidden behind a hat, became oddly familiar.
"Celine Atticus," she gasped, and hid behind a wall.
Quickly, she texted Cam, and Landon.
Landon was going inside the station again, when he received the text from Leighton.
He frowned, as his heart skipped a beat. Celine Atticus had managed to stay hidden for an entire week, whilst still playing her hand in both Spades, and the media.
To make things worse, the men who had tried to kill Fay confessed that Ace had given the orders.
He was trying to prove Celine was involved, but even the people he contacted to find her had not been able to track her down- until now.
Swiftly, he dialled Grant who answered on the first ring.
"Celine is at the hospital. Find her," he said, and ended the call.
He walked into the station next, and went straight to the counter to confirm his appointment.
The next time he left the place, Ace was with him.
"Are you okay?" He asked as they entered the car.
Ace sighed, running a hand through his already overgrown hair, that had managed to even worsen in a week.
"A billionaire heir to an empire just spent a whole week in a cell. If the media had—-"
Before he could finish, it was like a floodgate opened.
A swarm of media cars pulled into the station’s compound.
"What the fuck is going on? I thought you made a deal with the authorities to keep my presence a secret, in exchange for me cooperating with them?" Ace asked, confused as he looked around.
"Celine is currently at the hospital Fay is. She must have leaked this. But don’t worry, I prepared ahead. Just relax. No one knows it’s us."
Ace, still worried, looked to his side of the window.
He began to relax when he saw it was tinted, and no one could see him from outside.
But when the press rushed the car behind theirs, he became curious.
"What did you do?" He asked, a hint of a smile dancing in his eyes.
"Let’s just say, the mystery of Ace Atticus’ appearance or disappearance remains," He laughed, and drove off.
As they hit the highway, Landon’s phone began to ring.
"It’s Grant. Should I answer?" Ace asked.
"Please do."
Ace picked the phone, and answered the call.
"Grant, it’s Ace."
"Sir Ace! I’m so glad you’re out of that horrible place. But there’s a problem. Cam intercepted before Celine could go into Fay’s room. But now the hospital is shielding Celine. They won’t release her to us," he explained.
"Alright."
He ended the call, and turned to Landon. "Do you have Alexander’s number?" He asked.
"Sure. What’s going on?"
Ace began to scroll through until he found the number, and dialled.
"No, it’s Ace," he began. "I’ll just go straight to the point. Tell the hospital to release Celine, or the lawsuit I’ll be hitting them with would shut it down for as long as an Atticus exists on this earth."
He ended the call, and sighed in exhaustion.
"I can’t believe it’s been a week. I’ve been in jail, Fay has woken up from a comma, yet we haven’t gotten a hold of either Celine, or Kings. What the fuck am I doing wrong?"
"Celine is crafty, bro. Together with King, they’re a formidable pair. But don’t worry. We’ll get them. The worst is over. Fay is fine."
"And my mum? Her grandfather? We haven’t heard from them."
"Actually, I got a call last night," Landon confessed.
"What?! And you didn’t think to tell me that first when you saw me?"
"Calm down, Ace. I was trying to get the exact location of the call. Sent it to our guys. They said I’d get a result this evening. It turns out King is not as smart as he thinks he is."
"Are you sure they can trace him?" He asked.
"Have they ever failed us? Didn’t they help find the whereabouts of Fay, that one time her crazy ex kidnapped her?"
Ace released the tense breath he was holding.
"You’re right. But I want to know the second they send the location. I’ll go there myself."
"Yes, but not without backup. I’m in contact with officer Stevenson. When the time comes, he’ll go with us."
Ace went silent for a few seconds, before asking another question that had been bothering him.
"How’s Dream holding up?"
"She’s such a brave little girl, bro. She keeps insisting for us not to worry. We were supposed to comfort her, but she ended up comforting us."
Ace closed his eyes. "She’s not supposed to be enduring so much at such a young age. Remember? We always said we would protect our children, so they never have to experience the kind of trauma we did. I failed, Lan."
"Don’t do that. Everything is going to be fine. Dream would have a wonderful childhood after all of this is over and done with. Just think of it this way - by this evening, we’ll be one step closer to wrapping this up."
Ace nodded, but in the middle, caught a whiff of his scent.
"I reek bro."
"I know," Landon chuckled.
"Watch your tone," Ace warned in a playful voice.
"Not to worry. I know you don’t want Fay seeing you in this state. You’ll freshen up before we go to the hospital."
"No!" He protested heavily.
"No? Why? Don’t you want to see Fay?"
"I do. Trust me bro, I really do. I just don’t want her close to any of this. I want to wrap this madness up once and for all, so we can reunite with a clean slate."
"Hmmm, alright." Landon shrugged, and took a turn to the villa.
