Chapter 212: STUMBLING SURPRISE

"What do you mean by someone grabbed Fay?" Seth screamed at Fay’s driver who had just relayed the message to him.

"I called the police sir," he said with bowed head, and quivering lips.

"Get out of my way," Seth walked past him, and went out to meet the cops that had just arrived.

"Good afternoon sir."

Seth’s eyes went to the officer’s badge, before he replied.

"Officer Dexter," he stretched out his hand, and they shaked. "I’m glad you came."

"Left everything I was doing the second we got the call. Do you mind answering a few questions?"

"Sure, come in."

Some minutes later, they were done with questioning, and the officer rose to leave.

Seth escorted him out, and bade them goodbye as they drove away.

He was about to return inside, when a car forcefully drove into the compound, and came to a stop.

Ace stepped out in the company of Landon who was driving.

He went directly to Seth, but from the corner of his eyes, scanned the compound in search of his car.

"Ace?" Seth called with worry in his voice.

"Good afternoon sir. I’m here to collect my car, but I couldn’t help but notice the cops. Is everything alright?"

Seth contemplated the best response to give him. This could be the opportunity the man needed to win his granddaughter over again.

But what if he didn’t care to take it? What if he still didn’t realise after all this while, his fight wasn’t with Fay?

"Come inside," he said, and turned on his heel.

Landon arrived at Ace’s side before he could move.

"Found your car," he whispered.

"Yeah, I think something’s wrong."

"I noticed. Some of the cops are still lingering around the building," Landon said.

"He wants me to come in."

"Then let’s go in."

Together, the duo passed through the same path Seth had walked, and found him in one of the living rooms.

"Are you sure I should be inside here? Fay did say she’ll burn me down if I come into her house again," Ace said as his presence became visible.

Seth turned his head behind. "Take a seat. Both of you."

"Good afternoon sir," Landon bowed.

"Hello Landon. It’s been a while. How are your parents?"

"On a never ending vacation," he chuckled.

"Yeah, those two priorities are their happiness all the time. It’s something you young men should learn from."

"Why did you want us to come in?" Ace asked, already desperate to leave.

He had woken up that morning with the most terrible headache, and a fuzzy memory.

When he came down, Alice and Marilyn were only too happy to download everything that happened the previous night to him.

He hadn’t said a word yet, because he wanted to talk to Reign first.

She was a lot of things, but she couldn’t possibly lie about her father’s condition.

And if the hospital wanted him to stand in as a second dependant, he would gladly do it, despite her betrayal.

"You seem to be in a hurry," Seth said.

"I am. There’s an important board meeting I need to attend."

"Is it concerning the rumours?"

"What rumours?" Ace countered defensively.

Seth didn’t respond immediately. It was obviously a sensitive subject for the young man, so he wanted to chalk it away.

"What rumours Seth?" Ace pressed. He wasn’t having it.

He wanted to know the information he needed to have, so he could successfully navigate whatever was to come.

Before Seth could respond, one of the staff entered the room with a big tray in her hand.

"For the guests, sir," she bowed.

He nodded, and ushered her towards them.

She placed the tray on a table, bowed, and turned away.

"Are you going to tell us what is happening, or at least tell me what you heard about me?"

He opened his mouth to speak, when Fay’s driver ran into the room.

"Any news?" Seth almost jumped out of his seat.

"One of the guys I called to help said they traced the car to an abandoned warehouse. The police are on their way there," he said, breathing loudly.

"What’s going on here?" Ace asked, looking between the driver, and Seth.

"Sir Ace," the driver bowed. "I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there."

"That’s okay. Are you going to tell me what’s happening now?" he asked.

Something felt off. The air was thick with tension, worry, and danger.

He didn’t like the situation, and the way it made his heart pound against his chest.

"It’s Fay," Seth said solemnly.

His eyes widened, as he sprang to his feet.

"Where’s she? What happened to her?" He asked in panic.

"She was about to enter the car when another car stopped in front of her. A hand reached out to snatch her, and before I could raise an alarm, they drove away," the driver explained.

"Oh My God!" Landon gasped.

"That’s why the cops were here," Seth said in a faint voice.

He was trying to put on a brave front. If not for anyone, but for Dream, when she eventually woke up, and asked for her mother.

If it wasn’t for the little girl, he didn’t think he would have been this composed.

"Where did this happen?" Ace asked, already whipping out his phone from his pocket.

"At the company. She was on her way home to discuss something important with me," Seth replied.

Ace dialled a number, and the person at the other end of the line answered on the first ring.

"Hey, I need you to locate someone for me. I’ll send you their details right now," he said, and ended the call.

"Was that Xavier?" Landon asked, scrolling through his phone in search of his own contacts.

"Yep. Are you texting someone?"

"Joy. She should also be able to help.

"Thanks man," he said, then turned to Seth. "Don’t worry man, I’ll find Fay."

Seth allowed a single tear drop from his eyes.

"Please do. She’s one of the only families I have left. If I lose her, I don’t know what I’ll do." His voice choked, as he sniffled.

Ace felt immense pity wash over him. Maybe the old man was not delusional. Maybe Fay had not deceived him. Perhaps, she was truly his granddaughter.

He didn’t know what was true, and what was a lie anymore.

Everything mixed together, and caused blurry enigmatic lines.

"Here," he walked up to Seth, and handed him his phone. "Fill in these details about Fay."

With shaky fingers, Seth accepted the phone, and began to type.

Ace hovered over him, watching him input all the answers.

He seemed to know everything about Fay. Even down to her blood type.

"But why’s all this needed?" He asked as he returned the phone.

"You’ll see."

"Share the details?" Landon called.

"On it," Ace replied.

The driver paced back and forth, and Seth tapped his legs restlessly against the carpeted ground.

Whilst all of that was going on, Ace and Landon joined heads together, both waiting for their person to give them some information.

The driver’s phone suddenly rang, and he jumped in alarm.

He quickly answered the call, and brought the phone to his ear.

"Hello? Yes, this is Ms Fay’s driver."

"Oh?" His face fell.

"Alright, thank you. We’d be waiting for more news."

"Who was that from?" Seth asked the second he ended the call.

"From the police. The warehouse was a deadend. A distraction."

"Those bastards! If they hurt my granddaughter, I’ll kill them with my bare—"

"Got it!" Ace interrupted, rising to his feet.

"Xavier came through?" Landon asked.

"Yeah. There’s a mansion South from Forest Grove. The car was seen there. Let’s go," he said to Landon who had already risen to his feet.

"Wait, shouldn’t you tell the cops? You need to stand aside. These boys could be dangerous," Seth said.

"We just found your granddaughter in less than twenty minutes. Something the cops couldn’t do. I’m sure we’ll be fine," Ace said.

"Thank you," Seth said before Ace could take another step.

"For what?" Ace asked behind his shoulders.

"I know you and Fay are not in a good place. I’m just thankful you’re able to do this for me," he said.

"Your granddaughter and I have some scores to settle. That can’t happen if she’s hurt, can it? This has nothing to do with her," he said, knowing very well he was lying to himself.

He made it to the door, at the same time the door opened, and tiny feet rushed in.

"Dream, I told you not to—"

The nanny paused when she saw Dream had crashed into someone in a bid to run into the room.

She looked closely at the man’s face, and gasped loudly.

"Get her out of here, now!" Seth ordered, but it was too late.

Before the nanny could recover from her shock, Ace had bent, until he was levelled with the little girl.

Dream slowly raised her head at the same time.

"Hey Mr, could you please move out of my way?" She asked politely.

Ace’s breath quickened when he saw her face clearly.

Red hair, Blue-green eyes, face that mirrored his child—

"What the hell is this?!" He turned around, questioning Seth who had gone completely pale in shock.
