THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 209: UNSUCCESSFUL
Chapter 209: UNSUCCESSFUL
Reign planned a way out in her head, and moved to action.
"Why are you here?" She asked Alice in a stern voice.
Alice raised the glass she was holding, but kept her eyes on Ace.
"To return this," she replied.
"This early in the morning? Shouldn’t you be resting?"
Alice’s brows curved in disbelief. "I could ask you the same question, ma’am."
Reign opened her mouth to respond when Ace swayed and almost collapsed to the ground.
Her hand reflexively shot out to catch him before he could fall.
She steadied him, and made sure he was still, before returning her attention to Alice.
"Are you questioning my movements in this house? Who exactly do you think you are?" She went on the attack.
"I didn’t mean to question you, ma’am. I was just trying to point out how sometimes, we can’t control certain things."
"Alright, now that you’ve made that clear, drop off the glass, and return to your room," Reign commanded.
"Right after I make sure sir Ace is fine. He doesn’t look too good," she said, moving forward.
"You better stop right there, Alice. Ace only came in drunk, and that’s why I brought him to the kitchen to help clear off his drunken state."
Alice’s eyes went to the documents in front of Ace, and then back to Reign.
She was stupid enough to believe anything Reign had to say.
Something smelt fishy, and she wasn’t just going to leave, until she figured out what it was.
"I can make some soup for him, then. It helps him a lot, whenever he’s drunk. I’ll just drop this—"
"Don’t you understand anything I’ve said, Alice? He’s my man. I can take care of him. Now, run along, and leave us alone."
She began to shake her head even before Reign could finish off her words.
"I’m sorry ma’am, but I can’t just leave my boss alone when he’s clearly not in his right state of mind. He doesn’t pay me to leave him alone, except he says it himself."
With every word that came out of Alice’s mouth, Reign grew even more furious.
She couldn’t believe the impetus of the woman who was supposed to be licking the ground she walked on.
"You listen and listen good, Alice," she took a step towards her, and projected a threatening finger. "I don’t care how long you think you know Ace. You’re not the woman in his life. That’s me, alright? So whatever I say, you better do it, unless you want to get on his bad side."
"I’d much rather he punish me for disobedience, than onlooking."
She moved to help again, when Reign suddenly pushed her.
Alice fell, landing her buttocks hard on the ground.
"Ouch!" She screamed out in pain.
"I told you not to touch him. Why won’t you just listen?!" Reign raged.
Ace, who had no idea what was going on, looked towards their direction.
All he could make out were really loud people, with spinning bodies.
He covered his ears with both hands, hoping it would drown out their noise.
Marilyn, who had been woken up by all of the noise happening downstairs, entered into the kitchen to see her best friend on the ground.
"Alice?" She ran up to her immediately. "Are you okay?" She asked with bulged panicking eyes.
"I’m fine," Alice mumbled angrily.
"Are you sure? What happened? Why are you on the floor?"
She looked at her carefully, and then followed the direction of her gaze to Ace.
"Sir Ace?" She gasped, and jumped to her feet.
"Don’t you dare take another step towards him. He’s drunk, and just needs to rest," Reign warned, getting even more frustrated.
Everything had been going smoothly, until those nosy two decided to show up.
Time ticked fastly. If she didn’t get Ace to sign the documents before dawn, she would be in trouble in the hands of Celine.
"If he’s drunk, then he needs to drink some recovery soup."
Alice scoffed. "I said the same thing, and she pushed me to the ground. Good luck with that."
Marilyn’s budged eyes widened. "Are you hiding something, ma’am?" She asked in a suspicious tone.
Her eyes shifted to the document that was still in front of Ace, and her brow lifted quizzically.
"Damn it, Reign! You should have taken the documents off the table already!" Reign chided herself internally.
"What’s that?" Marilyn asked, pointing a suspicious finger at the document.
"Marilyn, it’s none of your business. But since you won’t stop being so nosy, I’ll tell you. My father has cancer, alright? He’s dying. The hospital has asked Ace and I to be his dependant since he has no one else he can trust. Ace asked to sign the documents, even after I told him he was too out of it to do it. Are you satisfied with making me tell you about my problems now? And don’t you dare look at me pitifully. I’m still better than your best imagination," she warned.
Marilyn, and Alice exchanged glances. They had similar thoughts about everything Reign had just told them.
It would have been easier to pity her if they didn’t know how much of a liar she actually was.
They were still contemplating their next move, when Ace suddenly rose to his feet, and began walking towards the door.
"Ace? Where are you going?" Reign picked up the document, and followed him.
He didn’t respond, only continuing staggering out of the kitchen.
"Sir Ace?" Marilyn also went after him.
Alice sprang from the floor, and went after them.
"Ace? You shouldn’t be walking off on your own in that state," Reign said.
He didn’t respond to any of them. Arriving at the stairs that appeared wobbly, he held on to the side railings, and took it one at a time.
Marilyn and Alice both ran ahead of Reign, walking behind him, just in case he slipped.
He made it up the stairs in one piece, and went straight to his room.
Reign knew she would lose him if she didn’t do anything to stop him.
But just before she could apply her manipulative skills, Alice ran ahead, and opened Ace’s door.
He walked in, and shut the door behind him. To add to her distress, she heard the key to the door turn.
"He’s safe now," Marilyn said, as if she was trying to get on her nerves.
"Yeah, he is," Alice agreed.
They turned around at the same time, to catch the anger in Reigns’ eyes.
"Who do you think you are to constantly cross me? I’ve kept quiet all these years, because I thought you’d naturally learn your place. But it seems to me that animals do not learn without a little force. Maybe I’ve been too lenient," she said, and turned towards her room.
"Clown!" Alice mouthed behind her.
Her head swiftly turned. "Did you say something?" She asked, as her eyes glanced between them.
"No ma’am." They shook their heads in unison.
"Better!"
She stormed into her own room, and banged the door hard.
Marilyn, and Alice burst into laughter, as their eyes met.
"She’s a liar, that one," Alice said.
"Obviously. Thank God you came in when you did. Only God knows what she would have had sir Ace do."
They shook their heads, and together, returned to the kitchen.
In her room, Reign paced back and forth in confusion.
It was supposed to happen before dawn. The documents were supposed to be signed before dawn.
What was she supposed to tell Celine, now that everything had collapsed?
She walked to the bed, and grabbed her phone.
She dropped it right back before she could find the courage to dial Celine’s line.
The other woman would be expecting good news. How could she tell her they had hit a big snag in their plan?
"But you have to tell her, Reign. If you don’t, things could get worse."
Taking a deep breath, she picked up the phone again.
She closed her eyes, and dialled the number.
She brought the phone to her ears, just as Celine picked up.
"Tell me it’s done, Reign. I’ve been waiting for your call."
"Uhmmm, I couldn’t do it. He was just about to sign the document when those stupid women came into the kitchen, and disrupted everything!"
"What do you mean, Reign? You failed me?" she snapped.
"I don’t mean it that way—"
The call ended whilst she was still speaking, and her heart thumped loudly.
Opening her eyes, she scrolled down, and dialled her father.
He picked up after the third ring.
"Why are you up this early, Reign? Did Ace Atticus hurt you?" He asked.
"No daddy, but I think Celine Atticus will."
"Celine? Why?"
"Oh daddy," she dropped to the bed. "I’ve messed up."
"What did you do, Reign?" He asked in a stern voice.
"I can’t say it over the phone." She shook her head, as her fingers trembled.
"Fine, come over at first light of the day."
"Okay daddy."
She ended the call with her heart in her mouth, and her body trembling uncontrollably.
