THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 208: TWIST AND TURNS
Chapter 208: TWIST AND TURNS
Ace dragged himself into his house, but stopped when he saw Reign in the living room.
"Hey, I’ve been up all night waiting for you."
She rose to her feet, and walked up to him.
"You finally came home," she smiled, and made to collect his briefcase.
"Don’t bother. I’ll just take a shower, and rest. I have a long day later today."
"Hey," she grabbed his arm when he tried to walk past her. "I really missed you, you know? I needed you here." She hugged him from behind.
He shut his eyes tightly, fighting the urge to push her conniving body to the floor.
"What do you want, Reign?" He asked, after giving her a second to take all the comfort she needed.
She pulled away, and stepped in front of him, blocking his path.
"You, Ace. I miss you so much. My body craves you. That’s why I said to myself, I’d wait an entire day if I had to."
"I’m tired, Reign. It’s 3am, and I just really want to get some sleep."
"But that’s not fair," she pouted, as her hands went to his shirt buttons.
"Stop it, Reign!" He said, more firmly than before.
"No, okay? Just no! I let you be all the times you claimed you were too tired. No more. If you’re not going to even touch me, the least you can do is sit with me."
"Is there something you’d like to discuss?" He asked.
"Why else would I want you to sit with me?" She replied sarcastically.
He stroked his forehead with his free hand, and sighed.
"Fine, let’s sit and talk."
"We’d be more comfortable in the kitchen," she said, leading the way.
She walked up to the kitchen table, and took a seat on one of the chairs around it.
He took the one opposite her, and placed his briefcase on the floor.
"What do you want to talk about, Reign?"
"It’s my father. He says he’s been trying to contact you for a while, but you’ve refused to return his messages," she said.
"I’ve been busy." He shrugged.
"Still, you do owe him some form of respect, don’t you think?" She eyed him carefully.
He scoffed in his heart. She was such a damn good actress, he’d give her that.
She didn’t know how lucky she was that he wasn’t in a confrontational mood.
The things he saw in the tapes were enough for him to go off on her, and not regret a thing.
"You’re not answering," she pushed.
"Like I said, Reign, I’ve been busy. He’s a busy man too, he should understand my plight."
"That’s exactly why he wanted to talk to you, Ace." Her face fell.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked, becoming apprehensive.
"My father is sick. Terribly sick. They found a tumour in his brain."
"What?! Don’t joke with something as sensitive as that, Reign!"
She lifted her head, and there were tears in her eyes.
"Why would I lie about something like that? He just told me, Ace. Why do you think I needed you all night?" she sniffled, fighting back tears.
He pushed his anger at her to the side, and moved to the seat beside her.
Pulling her into his arms, he patted her back.
"I’m so sorry, Reign. If I had even the faintest idea of his illness, I would have stayed home with you all day."
"But it’s not too late." She manoeuvred her body, so she could look into his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"Kiss me Ace. Make me feel comforted," she whispered, placing her lips on his.
He allowed her to have her way for a few seconds. After all, she needed comfort.
But when the tape started to roll in his head again, he knew he couldn’t go through with it.
"Wait, Reign." He pulled her away gently.
The flash of hurt in her eyes tore at his heart. He wished he could give her what she wanted. He wished he wasn’t thinking about how she had played him.
"Why?" She asked, when he didn’t say anything more.
"I just can’t. I’m tired, and not into it."
"Because you spent all of your energy on, Fay?"
His eyes widened, as he shifted back..
"What are you talking about?"
"Give up the act, Ace. I’m not a fool. I know you slept with her. Explained your nakedness splattered all over the news stations," she scoffed. "Like the fool I am, I was waiting for my husband to return to the party and take me home, whilst he was in the core of his ex-wife."
"Reign, I promise Fay has nothing to do with this. That was a mistake."
"Is that the same thing you told her when she found out I was pregnant for you?"
He slowed down the retort that had formed at the tip of his tongue, and buried it in a place where it could never come out.
Not until he was ready to confront her with it. He knew she had lied about them sleeping together. From the tapes, nothing like that ever happened.
However, she was in a vulnerable position. He couldn’t just throw her lies in her face.
"Trust me," he said, gathering her hands into his. "Fay is the least of our problems. I’m worried about you. What can I do for you?"
"Except sex?" She smiled painfully.
"Yeah for now, except that," he answered.
"Alright," she nodded. "At least, you’re being honest with me. You know what I would like?"
"Tell me." He urged.
"Ice cream. Remember when we used to play a lot with ice cream in the bedroom? But this time, I would love to just scoop some into my mouth. Would you do that with me?"
It was an odd request, he thought. But she was clearly sad, and needed some comfort. He couldn’t sleep with her, so he might as well lick some ice cream.
"I can do that." He nodded.
She forced a smile, and rose to her feet. Walking to the freezer, she opened it, and began to search for the stash of ice cream she stored there.
As she searched for it, her heart pounded against her chest.
This was her moment. The moment Celine and herself had been waiting for. His guard was down, and he felt sorry for her.
If she didn’t take advantage of this opportunity, she might never get what she wanted from Ace.
She grabbed the vanilla, and chocolate. Turning around, she lifted the two. "Which do you prefer?"
"Chocolate please."
"Good choice, but I prefer the vanilla."
She grabbed both, and two spoons from the kitchen cabinet.
"Here’s yours, and here’s mine," she said, taking her seat.
"Thanks," he replied.
"So tell me about the meeting today. Oh wait, it’s a new day already, so technically, the meeting was yesterday."
"Are you sure you want to hear about that?"
"Sure, why not? I need to be distracted from my mind. I don’t really care if there’s going to be a mention of my sworn enemy," she said with a knowing smile.
He returned her smile. "Alright, if you insist."
She popped open her ice cream, and listened as he narrated the events of the meeting.
But all through his narration, her eyes randomly went to his unopened cup of ice cream.
She began to tap her toes nervously, wondering when he’d open the ice cream.
"Hey, you do know melted ice cream is trash, right?" She cut into something he was saying, just to throw that out there.
"Yeah, you’re right. Sorry."
He opened the cup, and took a scoop right in front of her.
Her heart jumped for joy, as she watched him take two more scoops.
"It’s nice right?"
He gave her a thumbs up, and a blush crept all over her face.
"Do you think we should go see your father later in the day? I’d love to apologise for ignoring his messages."
"You’d really do that for me?" She asked, feigning tears in her eyes.
"We’ve been through a lot together, Reign. A whole—" he paused, as his words began to slur.
"Yeah, we’ve been through a lot."
Lifting her fingers, she began to count. On the fifth count, his head dropped to the table.
She quickly rose to her feet, and went behind him.
Her eyes scanned all over him, until she discovered he was exactly in the state she wanted him to be.
Conscious, but too dazed to make sense of his surroundings.
She hurriedly returned to the living room, and pulled out some documents she hid behind the throw pillows.
Going back to the kitchen, she went to Ace, and tapped him.
"Hey baby, do you think you can sign these documents from the hospital? It’s kinda needed, seeing we would be acting as dependents for my sick father."
"O-h s-u-r-e," his speech dragged in a slurry manner.
"I’ll just help you into a sitting position, so you can sign it."
She straightened him from behind, and handed him a pen, as she placed the document in front of him.
"Just sign here." She pointed.
His hands felt heavy as he lifted it to sign. "H-e-r-e?" He asked.
"Yeah, there."
He was just about to sign, when a happy feet Alice hopped into the kitchen to return the glass she had taken to her room.
"Sir Ace?" She called, and as he made to turn, the pen slipped out of his hold.
Reign lifted her head in rage, its intensity, making Alice take a step back.
