THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 207: SEEK THE TRUTH
Chapter 207: SEEK THE TRUTH
"Wait, what do you mean by—" he tried to push the door open, and go after her, but Landon pulled him back.
"She’s gone already. Let it go."
"No, I can’t let it go!" He hit the steering, causing it to go off. "You heard her. She said Fay is her cousin!"
"She did say so. But I think we have to leave now."
Ace nodded, and drove into the highway again.
"Where are you headed?" Landon asked, when they just kept on going without a break.
"You’ll see."
He drove partially to clear out his mind. But the more he tried to do that, the more the words of the girl blasted in his head.
To sum up his emotions, he was confused. And he hated to be confused.
He pulled into an underground bar, and stopped the car.
"Why are we here, Ace?"
"Because I need answers, and I can only get a clear head after a few drinks."
He walked out of the car, before turning around. "You coming or what?"
Landon sighed, and went after him. He was sad to see Ace losing the plot the way he was, but maybe this was the much needed wakeup call for him.
He entered to see Ace had already secured a table at a hidden spot.
"Are you sure you’d rather not talk about what we heard?" He asked, as he slid into a seat.
"We can do that while we drink, can’t we?" He replied at the same time the waiter came in with a mini crate filled with their drinks.
"I ordered a lot," he said, when he saw Landon’s confused stare.
Ace reached out for the whiskey first, just as the waiter excused himself.
He poured himself a shot, and emptied it in one gulp.
He poured a second, and a third, before he finally stopped.
"Now we can discuss. What the hell happened back there, Lan?"
"I don’t know, but I think it circles back to what I’ve been trying to tell you."
"About Celine, and Reign?" He lifted a quizzical brow.
"Exactly. I think everything is tied. Didn’t you tell me you saw Grant, and he wanted to confess the truth to you?"
Ace chuckled in amusement. "All of these theories just because you don’t believe Fay is a horrible person?"
He reached out for the bottle, and this time, drank directly from it.
"You don’t believe she is either. You just don’t want to be wrong, hence your insistence on making her this terrible person."
He chuckled again, his eyes dancing like twinkling stars.
"Fay left me naked the morning after we slept together. What kind of person does that?"
"Well according to you, you slept with her, and then kicked her out of your life in the most embarrassing way. I guess you both are eve—"
He banged a fist on the table before Landon could complete his words.
"Why do you keep defending her?!"
"Because someone has to be your voice of reason, Ace. You’ve been holding on to the anger of something that was never verified. How are you sure those videos and pictures weren’t doctored? Now you have the supposed sister saying they were never sisters, but cousins. How do you explain that?"
Ace’s eyes lit up, and his cheeks widened into a smile.
"I got it!" He snapped a finger.
"You got what?"
"She paid her. Common, think about it," he leaned forward like he was about to dish out the greatest knowledge on earth. "Explain how my car suddenly bumped into her, after four years of not seeing them? Same with Grant. I’m telling you, Lan, she paid them to try to convince me of her innocence."
Landon scoffed. He had told himself he wasn’t going to drink, but he didn’t think he could listen to Ace ramble with a clear mind.
He picked up a beer, and cracked the cover open.
"What do you think, Lan?" Ace waited patiently for him to take a swig.
"I think you’ve lost your mind. Why would Fay try to convince you of her innocence, when you yourself have claimed she hates you?"
"I don’t know? It’s not like I’ve studied the mind of a psychopath before." He
shrugged.
"You’re the only one acting like a psychopath, Ace. Why won’t you let go of this obsession to prove the woman you love is a horrible person?"
Ace was in the middle of drinking from the bottle, when what Landon just said registered in his head.
He coughed, and the liquid in his mouth splattered about.
"Love?!" He screamed right after swallowing the other bit left in his mouth.
Landon shook his head, as he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, and began to clean up the mess his best friend had just made.
"You’re not acting like an adult, Ace," he grumbled as he cleaned.
"You’re at fault. Why would you lie on my name that way? In love with Fay? You’ve lost your mind."
"Then explain why you slept with her. If she’s so disgusting, and you can’t stand her conniving ways, why exactly did you sleep with her?"
"You just said it yourself, didn’t you? She’s conniving. I can bet you she seduced me."
Landon rolled his eyes, and continued to clean. To him, it was way better than listening to Ace lie to himself.
"You do know they have cleaners around for a reason, right? I think you’ve helped them enough."
Landon didn’t reply, and he grew worried. "Are you ignoring me?"
Still, there was no response from him, prompting a sigh from Ace.
He picked up the bottle, and drank from it.
"You’ve had enough, Ace. Let’s return home. No matter what you hear, you’ll never believe Fay’s innocence. I think it’s better to just take you home," he said, already rising to his feet..
"I’m not going anywhere," Ace shook his head. "I’d rather sleep in this bar, than to return to a house where I would be aware of Reign’s presence. She’s everywhere, Lan. Everywhere I turn, there she is. I can’t even walk around in peace in my own home, without bumping into her."
"You should have thought about that before sleeping with her, while you were still married to Fay."
"I told you I drank a lot that night, Lan. I still don’t remember sleeping with her. Why bring it up? You think it’d somehow neutralise every bad thing Fay has done?"
He picked up the bottle to take a swig out of it, when Landon’s hands suddenly stopped him.
"Let go!" He slurred.
"Ace, I think we’ve missed something all this while," he said with widened eyes.
"What are you talking about? Let go of my drink," he said, pushing his hand away.
"I’m not joking Ace," he dropped to his seat, but pulled closer to Ace. "Do you remember when the lake house was hardly ever in use, and some thieves broke into it?" He asked.
"Vaguely." Ace swayed back and forth.
"What did we do after? We placed a camera in every room, right?"
"Except mine. I remember giving specific instructions for my room to be skipped. Couldn’t have cameras peeping on me now, could I?" He burst into laughter.
Landon shook his head at him. It was unfortunate that he had to be aware of how old they were getting.
They were usually able to drink a whole bottle without feeling its effect.
But looking at the bottle, Ace had barely gotten to the half point, and he was already drunk.
"I asked them to put one in your room."
"What?!" His closing eyes shot open.
"Don’t get mad," Landon shifted back, and raised his hand in surrender, as he explained. "I needed to find out who always took the wine we hid in our secret stash. How do you think I found out it was Makayla?"
"You bugged my room?!" Was the only thing Ace could ask, even after Landon explained.
"Don’t you see what this means, Ace?"
"I don’t. I only know you invaded my personal decision. Now will you please take your hands off my drink? You owe me that much."
"Fine." Landon removed his hands from the drink, and reclined into his seat.
"Thank you."
Ace was bringing the bottle to his lips, when he suddenly paused midway.
"You want us to roll the clips four years back?" He asked.
"You’re really not all that drunk, are you?" Landon smiled.
"I’ve barely cracked the halfway line. Tipsy, and upset, yes, but definitely not drunk."
"Great, because for a second there, I was afraid we were getting old."
"Oh we are getting old, Landon. But let’s get back to your idea. What do you think we would see in that tape?"
"Are you not the slightest bit curious as to how a part of your memory was just erased? No matter how drunk we’ve been, have we ever forgotten any of our escapades? Especially sex with women?"
"Nope." He shook his head.
"Then you’d agree with me, something’s fishy?"
"Fine, you win. We’ll go check it out. But first—" he poured a shot, and passed it to Landon. "Drink."
Landon shook his head, and chuckled.
"I thought you’d never ask," he replied, as he threw the shot far back into his throat.
"Good stuff?"
"Excellent!" He gave a thumbs up.
"Now we’re ready to go."
