THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 206: ONE TRUTH
Chapter 206: ONE TRUTH
David Duke, the governor, marched to the tv screen, and turned it off. But the damage was already done.
Ace knew he could not hang his head in shame. If he did, it would only make the entire thing more embarrassing.
He held his head up high, daring anyone to talk smack.
"That’s a nice butt though," Clarissa broke the silence that ensued.
"I’d have to agree. A really nice butt," the woman sitting next to Clarissa confirmed.
Everyone began to speak again, each talking about Ace’s butt, right in front of him.
Fay didn’t like the direction things were going. He was supposed to feel shame. Rather, judging by the smug look on his face, he felt empowered.
She was livid, and couldn’t help the glare she sent his way.
He threw her a wink in return, and mirrored her initial smirk.
"Bastard!" She screamed in her mind.
"Alright, that’s enough. Whatever that was, I think we should be professional enough to put it behind us until the end of this meeting," David said.
"Oh I don’t think I’d be forgetting about that one anytime soon," Clarissa said aloud. "Call me," she mouthed, and gestured to Ace.
Fay, who had caught the silly exchange, rolled her eyes.
There was nothing special about that butt. It was just like every other average man’s butt.
"Liar!" A voice reverberated in her head.
"Shut up!" She responded to it, still in her head.
Pushing her thoughts away from Ace, she focused on what the governor had to say.
An hour later, they were done with the meeting, and Fay was called upon to give her closing remarks.
She rose to her feet, and walked up to the head of the table.
"I think we’ve said all that needs to be said, but I do have one point to make. After putting a little thought into the finance of this project, I’ve come to realise that one company would not cut it. Naturally, I would have suggested Spades work hand in hand with Bass, but I don’t know if we can trust the company enough to handle a project of this magnitude."
Ace scoffed loudly. She was doing it again. Putting him in a spot where he had to defend himself.
"We don’t accept pity handouts, Fay. And what do you mean by trust? Has my company given anyone in this room a reason to be distrustful?" He asked, looking around to watch the response of everyone.
They all shook their heads to affirm that his company was indeed trustworthy.
"Mr Ace, there’s a difference between what a company projects as truth, and what the real truth is. I did a little digging, and what I’ve found has me questioning if you’ll be in charge of Spades long enough to handle this project. The governor and I would agree that it’d be a shame for you to take control together with Mr Xylon, only to have to let go to Celine Atticus. Are you saying there’s no such possibility?"
She held his gaze firmly. The embarrassment had not worked, so she had to take things a step further.
He hadn’t gotten hurt enough. He was still so arrogant, and distasteful.
She wanted him to feel pain. To beg for mercy. And until he did, his sweet lovemaking wasn’t going to make her stop pushing.
"If you’re trying to say something, why don’t you say it? Everyone has seen my naked body at this point, so I doubt there’s anything more to hide."
"Not completely naked. That damn blur wouldn’t let us see the real deal," Clarissa said out loud.
It was after she got reprimanded by Diane, she oopsed. She didn’t think she had said those words loudly.
"Are you saying there’s no such possibility?" Fay repeated again, ignoring every other thing he said.
Their gaze held intensely. Ace couldn’t believe what he was experiencing.
He couldn’t deny that a selfish part of him had thought after last night, they would be able to at least be cordial with each other.
However, he was fast learning that this Fay was ruthless. She would do anything to see him crumble.
"What is this? I hope you two don’t bring the baggage of your failed marriage into this project. I’m questioning if you’re fit to lead this project, Fay," the woman who had spoken before, Joan Anderson, said.
Fay’s gaze shifted from Ace’s, and rested on her.
"Would you like to lead then?" She asked, after giving her a condescending once-over.
"I’m saying you’re being a little too harsh on Ace. You already chose Xylon to manage the finances of this project. Why are you still taunting Ace?"
Fay chuckled, entirely bemused by the woman’s defence of Ace Atticus.
"Darling, he prefers his women blonde. I don’t think you cut it."
Joan gasped, as her hand absentmindedly, grabbed a strand of her brunette hair.
"Blondes? That would explain Reign King I guess." Xylon smirked.
"I don’t think we should be diverting into areas way different from what we’re dealing with right now. It doesn’t speak too well of our professionalism," Landon inserted himself into the conversation.
"And who asked you, sidekick?" Clarissa sneered.
"That’s enough everyone! Jesus Christ!" Diane jumped to her feet.
"She’s right. I think we’ve stayed a little longer than we should have. Let’s wrap up this meeting before any real damage is done," the Governor said.
"Like I said, there’s room for another company to work with Bass, and I would suggest Spades. We just have to be clear about its leadership situation first. I’d suggest we wait out the week to see if the rumours dial down. With that said, we can now dismiss this meeting."
Fay, sashayed back to her seat, extremely happy that the seed had been planted.
She could feel Ace’s eyes on her, but she didn’t plan on giving him the satisfaction of staring back at him.
The meeting was dissolved, and Ace didn’t wait back.
He walked right out of the room, and went straight for his car.
"Would you please wait for me?!" Landon called, running after him.
He waited for Landon to get in, before he drove out.
"I want that video scrubbed out of the internet!" He said, halfway into driving.
"Already on it," Landon said, working on his phone. "I just had a chat with one of our media friends. Something’s not right, Ace."
"Yeah, they have a pending release of the story of how I financed a deal gone bad, and now, Spades is in trouble. What’s new?"
"I don’t think it’s just that. Unfortunately, Tracy won’t tell me more. Someone’s definitely paying top dollar to slander your name."
"It’s not the first time. I’m not surprised."
He braked long enough to turn the car into a different lane.
"You’re not going to do anything about it? What if this is Celine’s doing?"
"Or Fay."
"Fay?" He shook his head. "I don’t think she’d hurt you that way."
"Who do you think is responsible for my nakedness being splattered all over the media?"
"You were with—--" he allowed the rest of the question to settle in his mind.
The answer was already obvious. It was no wonder they were a little more fierce with each other at the meeting.
He didn’t need to be told to come to the conclusion they had slept together.
After all these years, Ace still couldn’t resist Fay. He just hoped that soon, he could find enough evidence to feed his best friend with the truth.
As if the heavens were listening in on his thoughts, the car came to an abrupt halt, as Ace almost hit a pedestrian.
They jumped out of the car, and ran to help the woman that had fallen to the ground.
Ace turned her around, and his eyes squinted with recognition when he saw her face.
"You’re Fay’s sister," he said.
The girl’s eyes widened in recognition. "Sir Ace?"
"Please, call me Ace."
With the help of Landon, he pulled her up, and they carried her to the backseat of his car.
Thankfully, there were not many people around to cause a ruckus.
He drove forward again, whilst Landon striked a conversation with the girl.
"Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital? You could have a bruise," he said.
"I’m fine. I just want to go home to my mother," she said, and burst into tears.
"Why are you crying? Was it something I said?" Landon questioned in alarm.
"Oh no. It’s not about you. I’m sorry, but I can’t say anything, else I could be in trouble. Could you please drop me here? I’d find my way home, myself."
"Errhhm, I’m sorry but I can’t do that. Your mother was instrumental in getting me to know the truth about Fay. I can’t believe she’s super rich now, but still can’t help her own family," Ace hissed in anger.
"Please stop the car!" The girl suddenly screamed.
He didn’t want to go through the same thing he went through with Fay last night, so he moved to the side of the road, and stopped the car.
The girl hopped out of the car, and circled around to his window.
"Fay is my cousin, not my sister."
The second she dropped the bomb, she crossed to the other side of the road, leaving Ace frozen to his bones.
