Chapter 188: CHANCE MEETUP

Chapter 188: CHANCE MEETUP

"So– Sophie?" Fay stuttered.

In a twinkle, Sophie dashed towards her, and pushed herself in for a hug.

Fay, who was still startled by her appearance, relaxed her body enough to return her hug.

"Oh my God, you still smell so good!" Sophie said, as they separated. "You look so beautiful and sophisticated, Fay!’

Fay didn’t know how to respond. She loved that kid with all her heart, but she was still a part of the Atticus.

Her heart was torn. Whether to return the genuine affection, or just keep it moving.

A decision happened when the doors of the restaurant opened, and someone walked in.

"Good thing you’re all here, girls. Mum asked me to—-" Ace’s voice faded into silence when Fay suddenly turned, and their eyes met.

All thoughts of that morning were wiped off when he saw her face.

She was supposed to look exhausted from spending the day at work. Yet, she managed to still appear breathtaking.

The fact she had poured him water only that morning didn’t matter anymore.

He just wanted to stare at her face. Because the more he did, the more soothed his heart became.

Sophie cleared her throat. "Ace, you’re here!" She said, breaking the silence that had formed.

Ace didn’t immediately hear her. He was too caught up in the woman who had gotten so incredibly sexy.

If she wasn’t staring at him too, perhaps, he would have been able to compose himself.

But she was looking at him. She was looking directly into his eyes. As if they were reading each other. Drinking in the sight of one another.

"Ace?" Sophie called again.

Her sisters, the twins tried to silence her. But she didn’t see them on time.

"Ace?!"

"What?!" He turned immediately.

"I’ve been calling you, and you’ve been ignoring me. Fay is that pretty, right?" She giggled.

Fay blinked, and lowered her gaze. She didn’t know what had just happened to her. She promised herself to keep the same energy every time she saw Ace.

However, that had not just been the case. Something about him in casual jogger pants, and white t-shirt did something to her stomach.

It made it flip, and leap. A very dangerous reaction to his presence.

She didn’t want any part of that. First it would be fascination, and then, entrapment.

"I should leave. It was nice seeing you again Sophie. You too, twins," she said, already turning on her heel.

"No Fay!" Sophie cried, and ran after her. "You can’t just leave. I didn’t get to say goodbye to you when you left before. Please don’t go," she begged with her bulged doe eyes.

Fay’s heart twisted with both love and pain. She realised even after so many years, she still loved Sophie like she was family.

She wanted to oblige the girl, but her self preservation kicked in.

Sophie was a little grown now, whilst she had a little daughter back home.

If she let herself be reeled back into the life of the Atticus, her life and that of her daughters could be in danger.

There was only one option; to be unapologetically selfish.

"Sophie," she smiled stiffly. "I’m sorry, but it’s late already. I have an important meeting very early tomorrow morning. I really do have to leave."

"But I thought you wanted to make an order? My shift is over, but I can take your orders before you leave," Blaire said from behind.

"Yeah, I’ll help Blaire pack your orders. Tell us what you want," Claire said.

Fay suddenly felt cornered. These girls did her no wrong. They were innocent, and shouldn’t be caught in her attempt for revenge.

On the flip side, she couldn’t afford to show weakness.

She was in a bit of a conundrum, and didn’t know what to do.

"Common girls, she doesn’t have to stay. Besides, I just told you your mother sent me to fetch you home," Ace said.

All of a sudden, Fay charged up with anger. He obviously couldn’t stand her presence, and would rather she left.

She wanted to piss him off, and began contemplating if it was best to just stay.

"No, Ace. We have to pack her orders. Tell us what you want, Fay," Sophie said.

"Alright, I’ll make an order. But it has to be quick. I really have to get home."

"Okay!"

Sophie dragged her back to the counter, where Blaire handed her their menu.

As she went through it, Ace’s eyes stayed fixated on her.

A lot of things were different about her. Even the way she stood screamed, luxury.

Her natural grace she used to have was heightened by the money she now had.

There was also the fire she suddenly possessed. Just this morning, she had shown him how much he riled her up.

In hindsight, he found her reaction funny. Her anger made her even more beautiful.

"Ace, stop it! You’re going down that dangerous road again. Remember who she is. She’s a scammer, Ace. A scammer!" A voice warned in his head.

Whilst he heard it loud and clear, he didn’t think it was possible to not admire her beauty.

He was so focused on watching Fay, he didn’t see Claire looking at him.

She couldn’t hide her smile as she did. Both her and her twin had several discussions of how much they missed Fay.

Although they were not as close to her as Sophie was, everytime she was around, the air smelled cleaner.

An idea began to form in her head. One she absolutely couldn’t wait to share with her twin, and maybe Sophie too.

Fay was about to place her orders when her phone began to ring.

"Excuse me," she said, and reached into her bag to retrieve the phone. "Hello grandpa?" She called into the phone.

In response, she heard her daughter’s chirpy voice.

"Mummy!" Her eyes doubled, as she quickly covered her phone with her hand.

Her heart began to pound. Stepping back, she moved to a corner.

"Hey, how are you?" She asked nervously.

"I miss you mummy. When are you coming home?" Dream asked.

"Soon, very soon. Wait up for me, alright?"

"Okay mummy. Love you!"

She ended the call, and returned to the counter.

"Sorry, that was my grandfather," she explained.

"Fay, I saw in the news that you’re the heiress of Luxe holdings. Is that true?" Sophie asked.

She reached out, and stroked the girl’s head. "What’d you think?"

"If you say you are, then you are! You don’t lie," Sophie replied.

"That’s right. You never lie," the twins said in unison, their eyes trailing to their brother.

Ace noticed and shrugged nonchalantly. Even after all these years, they still refused to believe Fay was all the bad things he accused her of being.

It had caused a strain in his relationship with his mother, and grandmother.

The siblings, not so much. They didn’t let a difference in opinion stop them from being a pest to him.

He loved them regardless of their beliefs. When his mum rang him to tell him to fetch them, seeing it was already late, he didn’t think twice about her request.

"Here’s what you asked for," Blaire said after returning from the kitchen with a girl following her.

"Fay Luxe!" The girl gasped on seeing her. "I just saw you in the news."

Fay forced a smile, and acknowledged her with a nod.

She accepted the order, and as she turned, her driver who had been waiting for her at a corner hurried forward.

"Take this to the car please," she said.

He bowed, and hurried through the door. She returned her attention to Sophie.

"It was good to see you again, Soph. Can I leave now?"

"I wish you could come home with us. But I guess you need to leave. Can I get a hug?"

"Sure princess."

"Thank you my fairy," Sophie whispered as they hugged.

She let go, and Fay lifted her head to the twins.

"You two have gotten even more gorgeous. Take care of yourselves, and Sophie?"

"Always Fay."

She turned around, about to leave when Ace’s voice stopped her.

"We’re still going to talk about our companies," he said.

"Direct all your conversations to my personal assistant," she replied, and continued out of the door.

The rain had already stopped when she stepped out.

She walked over to her car, and found her driver sweating, despite the coolness of the night.

"What is it?" She asked.

"It’s the car, ma’am. It’s not coming on," he replied in a panicking voice.

"Wait, what?!"

"I think there’s something wrong. I just called the mechanic."

"And what’d he say?"

"There’s traffic, but he’ll be on his way."

"Shit!"

"Fay? Is everything okay?"

She turned and saw Ace, and his siblings were out already.

"Nothing, Soph. The car has a little problem. I’ll just book a taxi," she said.

"Or you could come with us, and Ace could drop you?"

"That’s a good idea!" The twins echoed in sync.

Fay’s eyes went to Ace’s. Her thoughts flashed back to that night. How he had turned on her, and she shuddered.

"That’s fine, Soph. I’ll be fine."

"Are you sure, Fay? Don’t get proud now. It comes before a fall," Ace said.

"I’d rather fall, than go anywhere with you. Goodnight girls," she called over her shoulder, as she entered into the static car, and slammed the door shut.
