THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 151: A BIGGER REVEAL
Chapter 151: A BIGGER REVEAL
"Hello?" Fay answered the call.
She had found a space empty enough to occupy without having to worry about the noise coming from the party.
"And here I thought you were avoiding me, gorgeous. Hurt my feelings if I’m being honest with you. Anyway, how are you doing today?"
"I’m fine, but now is really not a good time. Don’t you know how to stop when someone doesn’t pick your call the first time?"
"Not really. Okay, maybe when it’s others. For someone like you, I’ll call over and over again until I get you."
"What do you want from me, Xylon?" She stroked the throbbing pain on her forehead.
"You."
"I’m sorry, but you can’t have me. I didn’t tell you the other day because I thought we were just on friendly terms, but I’m married. If that’s going to change your mind about the perfumes you purchased, then I can just refund your money," she ranted, and when she was done, she was out of breath.
She hoped he’d finally get the message and leave her alone. Her head had been lost momentarily, because he genuinely had a nice smile. Not enough to make her forget that she liked Ace a little too much. Especially now that things were going smoothly.
"I didn’t think you’d be honest this early. I did figure out you have to at least be in a relationship. Whoever the man is, he’s lucky as hell. But I’ve also been known not to give a fuck. If he was a serious man, he wouldn’t allow you to sell perfumes to buy gifts. So I’ve taken it upon myself to steal you from him. After all, your husband should not stop you from finding the love of your life."
"Have you lost your mind?" She blurted in alarm.
She thought she had seen the peak of madness with Ace and his rich shenanigans. This was just taking it to a whole different level.
"Yes. I lost it to you when I chanced upon you. I’m experiencing a madness of your own creation, Fay. Only you can save me. But for now, I can tell you’re in a place where talking is difficult for you. I’ll leave you alone, for now."
He ended the call, leaving Fay puzzled. She stood rooted in the same spot for a few minutes after, thinking she had lost her mind.
When she finally moved her body again, it was to check her reflection through her phone screen. She needed to know what was so special about her.
As hard as she tried to understand it, she just couldn’t. There wasn’t any reason men should have this kind of sick obsession with her.
Xylon Bass looked like the kind of person that didn’t stop until they got what they wanted. As if that wasn’t already bad enough, he was supposedly Ace’s rival.
They couldn’t possibly fight for the biggest status, and also the same woman.
"Bold of you to think Ace would fight for you," a pessimistic voice in her head said.
She was going to admit they were right, when the memories of the previous day flashed through her mind.
He had been so good to her. So very thoughtful and genuinely sweet. Couldn’t it mean something? It just couldn’t be all an act, could it?
"There you go again. You always have one excuse or the other for his behaviour. Until it affects you, and you begin to worry."
"Leave her alone. Must you always slander her? Give her a break!"
"You two, no! Not today."
She closed her eyes tightly, and by the time she opened it again, they had both disappeared.
"Much better," she thought, stepping out from the spot she had received the call.
As she walked back to Ace and his friends, her mind conjured different thoughts. She had a feeling Ace already suspected her. There wasn’t anything she could do about it if indeed, he did.
There was actually, but it would require her telling him the truth. An act she wasn’t ready to indulge.
She had almost stepped into the open when she stumbled into the matriarch and another woman by her side.
"Fay?" The matriarch called.
Fay smiled, and moved to hug her. She opened one arm wildly, while the other held on to her cane, as she hugged Fay.
"I saw you from afar, but I needed to go rest for a little while inside the house. At least I thought I was going to, until Lynette accosted me. If there’s anything to know about Lynette, it’s that she’s a talker," she said as they pulled apart.
"I’m guessing the beautiful lady is Lynette." Fay smiled, offering her hand to the other woman.
"Should I know you?" Lynette asked as she accepted her hand. "And please, I’m not asking to be shady." She quickly corrected any misconceptions.
"Uhmm, I’m—" she bit her lips.
The matriarch chuckled at her reluctance to label herself correctly. She did understand it though. There was still a big question mark in their marriage. The less people that knew, the better. Just in case their plan didn’t work out in the end.
"She’s Ace’s wife," she said on her behalf.
Lynette was like family to her. There was no one else she would rather know about certain inner workings of the family.
"Oh My God! Is it her? Wow!"
Before Fay could blink, Lynette pulled her into her arms, holding her in a tight hug. She squeezed tightly and affectionately, until Fay felt like the life in her was about to vanish.
Thankfully, she was released before it did. With her hands still placed on Fay’s shoulders, she scanned the length and breadths of her entire body.
"You’re so beautiful! I’ve wanted to meet you for a while now. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to..I’m so happy to finally see you!"
"Thank you," Fay smiled.
"It’s so unfortunate I have to quickly discuss business with the matriarch. Can we talk later? You’re still around with Ace, yeah?"
"I am." She nodded.
"Good."
Soon, Fay was on her way back, but with a smile on her face. Whatever unpleasant conversation she had with Xylon was cancelled out by meeting the very pleasant Lynette.
She was still smiling when she returned to the group. But to her amazement, she was the only one smiling.
It became clear to her the reason why, when she turned her head a little and found Reign King smiling sheepishly.
"Good, you’re here. Just the person I was hoping to see," Reign said, and turned to her. "How are you Fay? I hope you’re healthy enough to hear what I have to tell you."
"What’s going on here?" A confused Fay looked around, waiting for someone to explain the situation to her.
"It’s pretty simple, my dear. I have here with me the result of a test I carried out. It turns out I am–"
"Don’t you dare, Reign!" Ace cut in before she could divulge the information.
"Why? She deserves to know the truth."
"I don’t believe you. I don’t care if you have a document straight by God, I still won’t believe you!" He strained his voice to project his disgust.
"It doesn’t matter what you believe, Ace. If you want to, you can call the hospital. You can even run a test on your own. I’ll follow you if it’ll make you happy," Reign said.
Dread was beginning to rise in Fay’s heart at this point. Her heart rate began to swell, as she waited patiently for that explanation.
"Fay," Ace called her desperately. "I can explain things to you. Don’t listen to whatever this crazy woman has to say."
"I’m the crazy one?" She raised her voice in annoyance. "You’re the one who fucked me, came in me and got me pregnant! Dont you dare call me crazy!" she screamed.
"Reign please!" Landon tried to reason with her, as the people closest to them began to look their way. "There are people here."
"I don’t care!" She retorted in a rattling voice.
"Fay," Ace moved towards the girl that had frozen, and wasn’t moving.
"Don’t," she called in a tiny voice. "Please don’t." Tears filled her eyes.
He stopped on his tracks, confused as to what to do next. More people were starting to look their way, and it was clear this was something Reign wanted.
"Oh stop with the crocodile tears already. You’re not any different."
"Stop talking to her, Reign. Leave her alone," Ace warned between his teeth.
"You need to hear the truth too. She’s not who you think she is. The matriarch hired her to deceive you. You really thought your original plan to find a wife and secure your inheritance is original?" She laughed maniacally. "It was all a plot by the matriarch, and your darling wife was in on it. And if I’m lying, explain why they’re always together."
She brought out her phone, and handed it over to Ace. He shook his head.
"No, I can’t accept that. I ca–"
"Look at it!" She screamed, and threw the phone at him.
He caught it in the air, his heart hammering against his chest. He turned to look at Fay, but she was already backing away.
