THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 144: THREAT TO BLOSSOMS
Chapter 144: THREAT TO BLOSSOMS
Fay managed to wiggle her butt into a real chair before Landon and Makayla entered the room.
She listened in silence as they chatted about their trips together in France, as she ate her food.
It was really hard to multitask between eating such delicious food, and listening to their tales.
However, when she came to terms with the fact she couldn’t relate to anything they were talking about, she decided to focus on the delicious food.
It was the same fate for Cam. He felt out of place sitting on the same table with his boss, and his friends. He could barely even eat the food presented to him, for fear of upsetting anyone.
Deep into the conversation, Ace noticed him picking his food.
"You don’t like the food?" He waited for the conversation to slow down, then he asked.
Cam didn’t instantly know he was the one being referred to, until Ace sent a pickle flying his way.
He lifted his head, startled for a few seconds.
"Don’t you like your food?"
"Oh it’s nice sir," and to show that he meant it, he pushed a forkful into his mouth. "Very nice."
"Yeah, he’s uncomfortable as hell," Makayla said. "Which is really weird for you, Cam. You’ve been Ace’s driver for the longest. I’ve known you for that long. Why are you so uncomfortable sharing a table?"
"Because he sees Ace as his employer. Sad, because you’re family now, Cam," Landon replied on his behalf.
"I’m sorry," he said after swallowing the food he filled his mouth with. "I’m not just used to this."
"It’s okay," Ace said. "But you’re not leaving until you get comfortable."
Fay, still ignorant of whatever was happening around her, continued to tear apart the piece of chicken flesh with her hands, forcing it into her mouth.
She couldn’t explain what food meant to her. Especially because of her tumultuous journey with it.
For the longest time, her body physically rejected food. Every time she ate, she threw up.
When someone noticed and asked her Aunt if she was bulimic, her aunty got really mad and beat the hatred out of her.
She started to force herself to eat the little she would get. Because the same aunt that beat her for embarrassing her with food, was the same aunt that would withhold food from her.
So she started to eat a lot whenever she would find food, and it just kinda stuck with her.
She took the last piece on her plate, and was barraged by dread. She wasn’t filled up yet, and it didn’t help that the finger food restaurant sold the best kind of food.
"Do you want more?" Ace, who had gone from observing Cam to observing his wife, asked.
Shyly, she lifted her head and met his gaze. "No, I’m filled up," she lied through her teeth.
She didn’t want anyone in her business. They would look at her weirdly if she said she wanted more food after finishing hers first. It had also been a pretty big plate.
Ace was not buying what she had just said, but he understood the optics. She didn’t want to appear greedy in the presence of everyone. If only she knew he didn’t mind buying her a whole food factory if that was what she needed.
"You’re getting ahead of yourself, Ace," a voice in his head warned.
The problem was that he was fully aware of that fact, yet didn’t give a damn.
He wanted to watch her eat to her satisfaction, then eat—
"Are you sure you don’t want some more?" Makayla asked, cancelling his lewd thoughts just at the nick of time.
"No, I’m really fi–" her words were interrupted by her phone ringing.
She hadn’t seen the device in a while and was shocked to hear it ringing.
"Mrs Fay, your phone," Cam said, pulling the device out of his pocket and stretching it to her.
That was when she remembered she had given it to him back at the bank.
"Please excuse me," she rose to her feet when she saw it was an unknown number.
"Hey, you don’t have to leave. We’ll be really silent," Landon called.
"I just don’t want to—" the call ended. "Oh, never mind. It ended already."
She was returning to her seat when it began to ring again.
Ace, who had been watching everything play out, lifted a curious gaze.
He hoped it was just Alice, or Marilyn calling her. Maybe his mother or Sophie. But he had a feeling it was neither one of them. Perhaps, even her aunt, or God forbid his own aunt.
She moved to a corner in the room, and answered the call nervously.
"Hello," she said with the phone stuck to her ear.
"Aha! Just the voice I wanted to hear."
A shudder coursed through her body as the voice registered in her head. It didn’t help that she could feel Ace’s burning stare on her back.
She knew if she turned, she would see him watching her with hawk-like eyes.
"Hello," she said again, hoping to pretend she couldn’t hear the person at the other end of the line.
"Hello Fay. Can you hear me? It’s me, Xylon. Xylon Bass. We met today. Remember?"
She bit her lips in confusion. Ace was still staring at her. If she ended the call abruptly now, he would be suspicious.
"Oh, hello," she said, trying to play it cool
But her pummeling heart loud enough for her ears to hear, wouldn’t let that happen.
"It’s me, Fay. Xylon. How are you doing? I told you I was going to get your number. How did I do?"
She could tell he was smiling. The way he did earlier today.
Shaking her head at such stupid thoughts, she returned her attention to what was happening in her ears.
"Can you call me later? I’m kinda in a busy place," she said, lowering her voice as much as she could.
"You are? Alright, I understand that. But I’ll be calling you from henceforth Fay. I’ll call you later tonight, and tomorrow, and the day after. Because I want you, and I have to have you. Goodnight Fay."
She heard that beep signalling the end of the call, and pulled the phone off her ears. Her heart was pounding at this point.
Cam had been right all along. He wanted her. He had said so with his own mouth.
She wondered how he got her number. More importantly, how she was going to wiggle her way out of this whole situation without Ace finding out.
She took a few seconds to breathe in and out, before turning around. Just like she predicted, Ace was staring at her with curiosity in his eyes.
"That was Alexander," she said, figuring it was better she called the name he was already familiar with.
"Alexander? Who is that?" Makayla questioned.
Dragging her seat behind, she sat down.
"That’s the doctor right?" Landon asked.
"Yeah. The one who likes her," Ace replied.
Makayla gasped. "Your doctor likes you? That’s so hot! And you’re totally gorgeous so I understand it."
"Makayla!" Landon called between his teeth, kicking her with his legs underneath the table.
"What?! What’s so wrong with a man finding a woman hot? She’s actually a beautiful girl. Please don’t tell me you think Ace is the only one that would find her attractive? I’m a woman, and I find her attractive."
Fay folded her fist tightly, feeling the tension in the room surge through the roof.
"You’re right," Ace suddenly said to everyone’s surprise.
Fay’s lashes flickered as her gaze went to him through it.
"Men are going to find her attractive, because she’s beautiful. It also doesn’t stop me from twisting their necks when they refuse to take a hint. That way, everyone’s happy," he said with a straight face.
Fay’s already thumping heart did a double take at his words. If he was already this irritated and it was just Alexander, what happens when she told him the real truth?
She was finding it hard to understand why he was so mad. He said he didn’t understand himself either.
"The same way you get mad when he’s with other women," a voice in her head drew her attention to her hypocrisy.
It was right. She didn’t want to see any other woman around him, except herself. He also didn’t want any man around her. They were at least even on that front.
"I like doctor Alexander though. He’s a cool dude. Please don’t twist his neck," Landon said.
"Who is this doctor? Is he hot?" Makayla leaned into Fay, and whispered into her ears.
Fay’s face turned crimson at the unexpected question.
"I’m going to take that as a yes," she said, and straightened her posture.
"You’re such an instigator." Landon shook his head at her.
Fay lifted her head again, and saw Ace watching her.
"What I said before still stands," she mouthed to him, feeling a need to reassure him.
"Good," he mouthed back.
Cam who was watching the entire exchange grinned inwardly. He didn’t know the madam had it in her, but she had done her best to stop a civil war. Because he knew that wasn’t the doctor.
And if his boss found out too, it would be a bloodbath.
