THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 114: HEART-BREAK
Chapter 114: HEART-BREAK
"Grant, could you excuse me and Ace’s wife. I want to speak to her alone."
Grant began to fidget. He absolutely could not leave Fay alone with Celine. Ace would kill him if he found out.
On the other hand, he couldn’t go against Celine Atticus to her face. She would destroy him.
He was caught between a rock and a hard place.
"I believe I’m talking to someone with functional ears," Celine repeated when he made no attempt to move away.
Fay winced inwardly. Celine was such a scary woman. Even scarier than her aunt, and she used to think her aunt was one of the scariest people in the world.
"Ma’am, the boss asked that she come with me. I’m sorry bu–"
"But what? And who’s this boss you speak of?" She casually interrupted him.
"I– I meant Sir A-ce," he stuttered.
"Then call him by his name, and not some made up title. Boss," she muttered under her breath and scoffed.
Fay kept her gaze lowered because she just couldn’t meet Celine’s eyes. The woman caused goosebumps to form on her skin.
Her heart beat that had settled before, surged again.
"Ace should come to me himself if he wants to speak to his wife. He should know there’s a strict policy against non-leaders of the hotel, coming in through this route. Or have you forgotten?"
He went silent. She was right. Technically, she wasn’t supposed to go through this route, but no other person would have batted an eye. After all, she was Ace’s wife.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause any trouble," Fay forced herself to say, with her head still bowed.
"And you won’t, if you’ll just come with me," she said.
"Ma’am ple—"
"That’s okay Grant. I’ll go with her." She managed to lift her gaze, despite how scared to death she was.
"Mrs Fay, sir Ace asked—"
"You heard her Grant," she cut off his words, a small smile playing around her lips. "She has accepted to come with me. You can go tell Ace she’s with me. If he’s a man, he’ll come atone for his sins. Fay, come with me."
Taking a deep breath, she stepped away from Grant, and moved beside Celine.
Holding tightly to the bag in her hand, she followed behind the woman.
"I see you’re slowly being integrated into the family business," she said, as she pressed the buttons of the elevator that would take them up.
"No– not really," Fay stuttered.
"Oh don’t be modest around me. I’m not mad. You’re part of the family now, hence, you should be let in on the family secrets. That includes both home and work secrets."
"Okay."
"So what’s that you’re holding? A gift for your husband?"
She wasn’t sure how to escape this question before, but thankfully, Celine had given her an idea without her knowledge. And since she had gotten so good at lying ever since she came into Ace’s life, she opened her mouth, and the lie just flowed out.
"I was shopping when I saw this off the racks. I thought it would be nice to get it for Ace, so I called Landon, and he asked the driver to direct me here."
"Oh, so Ace doesn’t know you’re coming?" She asked, as the elevator stopped and they stepped out of it.
"He probably does, since Grant came out to usher me in."
"Are you really sure he knows you’re here?" She asked again, mischief dancing in her eyes.
"I don’t know ma’am, it’s just a guess."
"Oh darling. I’m just glad you’re here. You know sometimes, you just need a little push to see people for who they are. I can see you’re genuine. You must really love Ace. But does he appreciate that love? Does he love you back just as much?"
Fay had zero idea what Celine was trying to do, but she knew she was up to no good.
"I don’t think about his feelings towards me. I’m happy enough I can love him the way I do. That’s enough for me," she said.
"Oh really?" Celine cackled in her head.
It was hard to find stupidity and naivety in such a beautiful body. Two words that perfectly described Fay.
She was about to burst the girl’s bubble, and there wasn’t a thing she would enjoy doing more- at least, in the last two days.
"I’m actually not going to punish Ace, now that I see you were just trying to do a good thing for him. You’re a good woman. I can’t say he deserves you, but you obviously love him enough not to care. So I’ll help you."
Alarm bells, louder than a trumpet, began to blast in her head. Nothing good could come out of Celine wanting to help.
She appreciated the offer, but at the same time, she also didn’t.
"Help?" She asked.
"Don’t say it as if I’m all bad and no good. Sure, your husband and I may have our differences, but all things considered, he’s still my brother’s son. My nephew. My only twin legacy. Of course I want to see him happy."
Fay didn’t believe a word of what she had said. Still, she nodded. "I guess."
Celine came to a halt, and pointed at a door. "As I was stepping out, I think I saw Ace in that room. Go get your husband, my dear." She smiled, turned around, and walked away.
Fay stood for a few seconds, confused as to what had just happened.
Maybe she was overthinking things, and just being downright paranoid. There was something different about Celine. At first, she didn’t want to believe that the woman was being honest, but maybe she was.
Either way, she didn’t have a choice. She was stuck in a spot she wasn’t familiar with. The only way was the way Celine had pointed her to.
There was no other option.
Slowly, she began to walk towards the door.
It was slightly open when she arrived. She was going to knock first, but thought she could just go ahead and surprise him.
Soundlessly, she walked into the room. Her eyes almost bulged out of its socket when she saw Ace standing with his back turned to her, and his tongue down a woman’s throat.
She saw enough of her to know that wasn’t even Reign King.
Holding tightly to the gift bag, which threatened to slip out of her hand due to the shock of the moment, she turned around, and hurried out of the room.
Tears welled in her eyes, as the haunting memory of what she had just witnessed mocked her.
He had kissed a different girl. A girl that was neither her, or his famous mistress, Reign.
Reign she could deal with. At least she knew they had history. But just when she thought there was something between them. A bond, forming. She had seen this.
"You’re such a fool, Fay!" She screamed in her head, with her back pressed against a wall.
"All you do is dream, hopelessly. A show of fake kindness is enough to get you dreaming, and wishing. When will you grow up!"
"Leave her alone! She didn’t ask for this. She’s just a victim of her own goodness."
"Then she needs to stop being a victim, and control her emotions!"
She struggled hard to wade off the voices, but they just grew more strength as they argued in her head..
The tears she vowed not to spew anymore, stung her eyes, ready to flow out.
She fought with all the strength she could muster. Holding it in. Praying not to embarrass herself.
With one hand still holding on to the gift bag, the other grabbed her chest that felt like it was being staked over and over again.
Breathing became difficult, as the struggle between holding the tears, and shutting the voices, intensified.
"Excuse me Miss, are you alright?" She heard a voice that sounded both far and near.
Lifting her head, her gaze came in direct contact with blue eyes. No, perhaps they were green.
She couldn’t figure it out, as the tears that couldn’t drop, blurred her vision.
"Do you want me to call a hospital?" His voice panicked.
At the mention of a hospital, she began to regain her strength.
"No," she said, but couldn’t even hear her own voice in her head.
"No? You don’t want the hospital? Okay, I won’t take you to the hospital. But you still need to tell me what’s wrong."
"He betrayed me a-gain. But I can’t– I can’t be mad. He’s not– he’s not mine to keep," she struggled to say.
"You need a hug," the voice said, and before she could push him away, he pulled her into his body, and wrapped his arms around her.
"There you go. You’ll feel good now in no time."
Her hand hung loosely behind him. She couldn’t bring herself to hug him back. Not when her chest still hurts so much. The only thing she could hold onto was the bag.
It was her creation. Her gift to give. The one thing no one could ever take away from her. And so she held onto it, as the stranger in the hallway hugged her.
