THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY -
Chapter 115: STENCH OF DECEIT
Chapter 115: STENCH OF DECEIT
Celine Atticus came out of hiding with a smile on her face, and her phone projected out. She took a couple of pictures before walking forward.
"Fay?" She called in a concerned voice.
Fay jerked, and pushed against the man holding her. He pulled away, and stepped back.
"It’s you. Why are you crying?" She drew closer to her, and touched her cheeks gently.
"Nothing. It’s nothing," she said, wiping the tears off her face.
"Don’t tell me anything. You were crying hysterically," she turned to the man that had just been comforting her. "Jason?" She called.
"Mrs Celine. Do you know the girl?" He asked.
"Yes, she’s my—"
"I didn’t find Ace where you said he would be. Is there any other place I can find him?" Fay interrupted before Celine could spill the beans on her identity.
"Sure. He might be in his office. Are you sure you’re okay though? I’m really worried about you."
"I’m fine ma’am. See, my face is all dried up." She forced a smile.
"Can I at least know your name? Fay is it?" The guy that had comforted her asked.
She ignored him, and instead, pleaded with Celine using her eyes.
Celine cackled inwardly, as she watched her suffer for a few seconds. She was so stupid, and so naive, she couldn’t believe her good fortune.
"I’m sorry, Jason, but she’s obviously upset. You’ll have to excuse us while I take her away. Fay?" She called in motion.
Fay quickly followed after her. As she walked away, Jason couldn’t peel his eyes off her.
He didn’t want to come to the states because he simply didn’t think there was anything for him here. But his father, Zed Daniels, had convinced him otherwise.
Maybe the old man had a point, he thought. Because he had just hugged and comforted the most beautiful girl in the world, and he couldn’t wait to see her again.
"Are you sure you don’t want to talk to me, Fay? I’m pretty sure I saw Ace going into that room. What happened back there?" Celine, unable to keep her messiness at bay, questioned.
"He was there. I’m so sorry for lying to you, ma’am. He was busy though. I didn’t want to interrupt him," she said as much of the truth as she could muster without breaking down again.
"Are you sure, that’s everything that happened? Because if that’s just it, you shouldn’t be crying so much." Celine pushed.
She was enjoying this game a little too much. The girl still wanted to protect Ace even after what she had witnessed. She was foolish, but not stupid.
"I was just a little upset, it’s nothing." She insisted, and turned her face away so she didn’t have to continue the discussion.
She had no idea why Celine was being so insistent.
"No, you’re not going to do that, Fay. The person you should be mad at is Ace. This time, Celine has been nothing but nice to you," her pessimistic voice said.
"Nice? Perhaps she’s just trying to gather information that would help her further push her agenda. No, I don’t buy it."
"Buy what? You don’t have to buy anything. We need to hold Ace responsible for making Fay sad. He always does!"
"I thought you were his biggest fan? How come you’re suddenly switching stance? You’re so wishy-washy."
"You’re the one to talk!"
They began to argue back and forth, and Fay instantly shut her eyes in frustration. She refused to add them to the list of her growing pains..
If they could evade her thoughts whenever they felt like, she also had the right to push them away.
When she opened her eyes again, they were both gone, and Celine had come to a halt.
"This is Ace’s office. Do you want me to see you in?"
"If it’s not too difficult for you," she said.
She didn’t want any growing suspicion that may arise from her refusal to let the woman come in. She also didn’t want to leave the perfume alone in his office, where Celine could easily find out what it was.
Her heart may be completely shattered by what she had just seen, but she had agreed to help, and didn’t want to compromise that agreement.
Celine nodded, and knocked on the door. She opened it, and made sure to step in first.
"I can’t remember the last time I was here. I can see everything’s still so—"
Landon rolled his chair around, and Grant, who was relaying a message to him, also turned.
"So occupied," she completed her words.
"Fay, you’re here!" Landon rose to his feet, and walked over to Fay.
"Yeah, I just want to give you this. It’s for Ace," she said, stretching the bag she had clung on to with a tight fist, even when her heart felt like splitting apart.
"What’s this?" He asked, as he accepted the bag.
"It’s something she got for him whilst she was shopping. Isn’t that just adorable?" Celine butted in before she could answer.
She let out a short laugh. "Yeah, I got it for him while I was shopping."
"That’s awfully nice of you, Fay. He just stepped out now. You should stay and wait for him to return."
"No!"
"Yes Fay, stay!"
Fay, and Celine said at the same time.
"I think it’s better if I leave," she raced to continue before Celine could say more. "I don’t want to get in the way of his work."
"Nonsense! I’m sure Ace would be ecstatic to see his wife. Ah, young love! I remember when my husband and I were still on good terms. You know, before his selfish ambition to run for state government. I could have made a damn good first lady, but I’m cut out for much better things, won’t you agree, Fay?"
"Yes. Yes you are."
Landon scrunched his face, and rolled his eyes. He could sense something was way off. Grant had immediately come to him with the news of Fay’s presence, and how Celine had walked in on them, and whisked her away. She had talked about rules and all of that gibberish. But going by the way she was acting, she didn’t seem like someone trying to be petty.
That was why he was so worried. He would rather she acted her real self, than this fake persona she was putting on.
"Are you okay, Fay?" Landon directed at Fay, genuinely worried.
Even a second spent beside Celine was enough to corrupt, or damn the purest of souls. And Fay didn’t look like she was fine. Her face looked pale. As he peered closer, it almost looked like she had been crying.
"I’m fine. Just a little tired. I get so flushed whenever the sun’s this high in the sky. Please send my best regards to Ace, I’ll love to leave now."
She prayed silently in her heart that they would just let her go without asking anymore questions. Every second standing in this office was like hell for her.
She could perceive his cologne. It was always strong, and left its scent in every room he touched.
Right now, it nauseated her. All she could see was a replay of his tongue shoved down the blonde’s throat. Okay she had not exactly seen it like that, but they had no doubt been kissing.
"I’ll walk you out then." Landon suggested.
"It’s no problem. I’m sure you have a lot of work to do. Like I said, I don’t want to be a distraction."
"Can you find your way out though? I could show you if you like. It’s not like I have anything to do," Celine said.
"You?" Landon blurted out.
"Yes, me. Do you have any problem with that, Lan?"
"Me?" He grabbed his chest. "I don’t. I’m just surprised you would offer. Grant told me you were salivating at the thought of punishing Ace because his wife passed through the route meant for bosses." He air quoted the last word.
"I didn’t use those exact words," Grant stuttered, taking a step back.
Celine gave him a once over, and shook her head. "Yeah, it’s true. I was angry at the blatant disregard of rules. Especially when he made those rules, not me. Anyway, when she told me she had come to see him because she was shopping, thought of him and decided to come gift him, a part of me was touched. He is my nephew after all, and I’m glad he has found a real woman. So I ask again Lan, do you have a problem with that?"
"No. But I think it’s better Grant sees her off. She would be more comfortable, considering your history."
"My history? What are you trying to say?" Her thick brow lifted.
"Oh, it’s not like you think, ma’am. I meant your history in the hotel. You’re a busy woman. Any moment from now, your attention may be required," he explained himself out of the hole he had dug.
At this point, Fay was ready to dig a hole, and bury herself in it, so she could escape his cologne, and the need to empty her stomach on his carpet that probably cost her life.
"Whatever, suit yourself." Celine turned around, and sashayed away.
"Fay?"
"Can I go now, please?"
"Sure. Grant!"
Grant hurried to the door, and opened it for her to go through.
"Goodbye Landon," she said behind her shoulders, and almost broke into a run, as she hurried to leave the stench of his deceit.
