The Baroness Misbehaves -
Chapter 244: Missing
Chapter 244: Missing
Inna, who couldn’t hide her distress, continued to find the room where she had entered with Madeline. Her brain was disoriented, and she had trouble remembering the exact room they had entered. No! She had trouble finding the room.
Seeing the guests whisper and murmur as they left the building in groups, Inna was forced to not raise any suspicion as she greeted each of them, but she didn’t stop checking the rooms either.
The news of what was happening must have reached Napoleon which could explain why the guests were leaving so sudden. Inna’s heart drummed whenever she thought of Madeline, and the angrier she got with herself for not being able to locate the room.
What was she going to do??
When the guests cleared the hallway, Inna spotted Orson who was also stepping out from the main hall. Orson, who caught sight of Inna was about to tease her regarding the time she chose to attend the choosing event, but he stopped when he noticed her teary eyes, and the smile on his lips instantly vanished like a vision of the night.
"Inna?"
Orson didn’t wait for a second before he rushed towards Inna who seemed to be in tears. He placed both his hands on her shoulder, forcing her to look at him, and when she finally did, Inna didn’t wait for him to ask and began to spill it all out.
"Orson, there’s a problem and I don’t know what to do. We need to find Maddie, she’s in trouble, please!" Inna said to him in tears, holding the hands he placed on her shoulder while meeting his gaze.
"Maddie?? What happened? What... What about Elian? Didn’t he come with you?" Orson asked as he looked behind her, as if he would spot Elian making his way from the crowds, but when he saw no one, he returned his concerned gaze to Inna.
Inna couldn’t explain the situation in detail and shook her head.
"Elian’s dealing with his brother, but Maddie, Jeremy has Maddie. I.... I saw Jeremy, and he’s going to hurt Maddie. He’ll kill her if we don’t get to her..."
"Who has Maddie?"
Inna nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard her brother’s voice behind her, and she quickly spun around to see him approaching them. His red eyes were blazing and the air around them went abnormally still. He stopped in front of his sister, and when Inna failed to respond, his face turned pale like he could tell from her expression what happened, and before Orson could say anything, Cassian had taken another route.
"Cas wait!" Orson called back, but Cassian was no longer in sight.
Orson and Inna exchanged worried glances before following Cassian who didn’t wait for them. Maddie’s floral scent still lingered in the air, and Cassian was able to use his senses to track the location of the scent. When he approached a room in front, Cassian halted when the sight of a broken door caught his attention, and his heart sped at the thought of arriving too late.
"Maddie." He whispered her name, and a flicker of fear crossed his eyes.
Stepping into the room, he found it in a mess, but as he anticipated on what condition he would find his wife, it turns out there was no one there. His heart kept pounding in his chest as he frantically searched the room, and when Orson and Inna arrived, their faces turned aghast when Madeline nor Jeremy could be found.
"They aren’t... here?" Inna uttered in a whisper that was barely audible, unable to believe it herself. Her eyes shifted to Cassian who ran his fingers through his hair, pacing back and forth as he tried to think. His red eyes looked monstrous, and he got angrier when his brain refused to think of anything.
"Where could he have taken her?" He muttered to himself, and as time continued to pass by, his panic grew stronger, and his mind raced with all the terrible things Jeremy must be doing to his innocent wife.
"Fuck this! Maddie!!"
He called out her name, his voice trembling with fear and desperation as he waited, hoping for some kind of answer, something that would clear up his mind that she was fine, but to his dismay, there was no answer. Only an eerie silence that seems to press in on him from all sides.
The sound of Inna sniffling broke the silence. It would have been the both of them in this situation if Madeline hadn’t saved her, but now, Madeline’s in trouble and no one knows where she is.
"Inna, Orson." Cassian looked at the two of them, something in his eyes flickered like he just recalled something, and he quickly said. "Go home and keep an eye on Abbot."
"Abbot?" Orson questioned, obviously startled.
"I can’t explain, okay?" Cassian spoke up like he was running out of time, "I tied him to a chair in a room at the back of the house, go back and make sure you keep an eye on him till I return. If he wakes up, punch him back to sleep."
"But where are you...?" Inna could barely get her words out when Cassian smoothly jumped out the window. For a second, her heart jumped in fear at what he was doing, but when she ran to look below, a sigh of relief left her lips upon seeing he landed safely on the ground, and in a flash, he was out of sight, leaving specks of dust behind.
"We should get back like Cassian said." Orson suggested, unable to think for himself presently, but Inna shook her head when she thought of Elian.
"Elian, what if he needs help?"
"I’ll go help your friend." Osvaldo’s voice drew their attention to the door, and he handed the worried Monica to them as well. "Keep her with you, she’s not safe here, at least for now."
"But I want to stay with you." Monica grabbed his arm, refusing to leave without him as she shook her head.
"I’ll return when we’re done, for now, go with them. You being here will only distract me. Okay?" Saying this, he handed Monica to Orson and Inna with the hopes he could trust her safety in their hands.
"I’ll leave now."
