Chapter 245: A Choice In The Cave (1)

"Where did you say the mountain cave was?" Cassian asked Lily who brought him to a junction with treacherous hills that lay ahead of him. When she pointed up, indicating he’d have to climb all the way up to get there, Cassian exhaled as he took a step back to take notice of the height, and it was going to be a long climb.

He bit his lower lip and placed his hand on his hip, taking it into study and finding the safest place to start climbing.

The path ahead was Rocky and steep, with jagged boulders and deep crevices blocking his way. The wind in this area was quite strong, and it howled fiercely all around him.

"Hold on, Maddie." He whispered to himself and took a deep breath. Cassian began his ascent, scrambling up the rough terrain with all his might. Lily remained below, watching him climb the dangerous mountain to get to the top and save his wife. A barely noticeable smile reached her lips, and for the first time, her eyes twinkled with admiration as she watched him go.

Every step he took was a struggle, and he felt his muscles burning with exertion as he pushed himself ever upwards. The rocks beneath his feet were unstable and slippery, and when he looked below to see how far he had climbed, his eyes widened slightly upon realizing he had climbed much higher than intended, but it wasn’t because of that he looked alarmed. If he falls from here, that could be the end of him.

"Ahh... shit!" He cursed through his teeth, but then when he thought of Madeline and what she must be enduring in the hands of Jeremy, his will to continue grew stronger, and he kept moving, despite the odds. Since the rocks were dangerously slippery, he had to use his experience as a trainee those years ago when he did most climbing to keep himself safe.

Several times he felt his grip slipping, and he had to cling onto the rocky outcroppings with white knuckles to avoid plummeting to his doom. But despite the danger, he refused to give up, driven on by his desire to find his wife and save her from the wicked hands of Jeremy.

Finally, after what seemed like hours of grueling effort, Cassian finally reached the summit. With a slight groan, he pushed himself up once more and successfully made it to the top. Laying flat on the hard ground while looking at the stars that twinkled above, Cassian tried to catch his breath and gather his strength, but in the end, he made it.

With a fierce determination taking control in his red glinting eyes, Cassian rose to his feet and made his way towards the only cave he could see. As he quietly approached the entrance, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, sensing something sinister lurking within. The inside looked too dark, and he could barely see anything on the inside.

His heart raced at the thought of not being able to find his wife here. A look of worry flickered in his red eyes as he backed away from the cave, the frustration starting to take over. He was running out of time and God! Where else can he find her?? Where could she be??

Cassian’s eyes watered, and he was about to turn away when something shiny in the darkness of the cave caught his attention. Immediately, he stopped walking and let his gaze fall on whatever was shining inside the cave. Without thinking, he went straight in, and when he got to what was shining, he crouched down to pick it up.

His heart sped when the familiarity of the ring in his grasp reminded him of Madeline. This was their wedding ring, the one his wife made that night when they couldn’t get any ring from the shops since it was Midnight.

But if her ring is here then...???

Cassian’s eyes immediately snapped towards the end of the cave. Gradually, his gaze began to adjust to the darkness, and he could see things to a tolerable extent. Keeping the ring in his trouser pocket, he rose to his height and stealthily moved closer.

Reaching the end, he discovered, to his amazement, that there was a narrowed path that led deeper into the cave, and when he got really close, Maddie’s scent reached his nostril, but it wasn’t only her scent, but the scent of blood as well.

His face paled. "Maddie!"

Forgetting he had to remain quiet to avoid raising suspicion, Cassian ran through the narrowed path. Why was he perceiving the scent of Maddie’s blood?

Bursting out through a passage that was lit with sticks on torches hanging on the wall. Cassian stood in the middle, surveying the area. At the corner of the cave, Cassian’s eyes landed on an unconscious figure that laid with her back to the wall, her head lulled to the side, and his eyes widened.

"Maddie!"

Cassian didn’t even realize when he made it to where her unconscious body laid. Her face looked pale, and he immediately pulled her body into his arm, the relief of finding her washing over him, but the fear of seeing her unconscious took over. He could still hear her heartbeat, but the fact she was unconscious didn’t sit well with him.

"Maddie! Open your eyes." He patted her cheeks lightly, hoping to make her regain her consciousness, but she didn’t respond.

"What... what did he do to you??" Cassian’s eyes scanned her body, the scent of her blood growing stronger now that he had her in his arms, and when he pushed her hair away from the side of her neck, two tiny holes could be seen, and his gaze darkened when it looked familiar.

Did he?? Did he bite her??

"Maddie!" The alarm in his eyes broadened when she didn’t respond, her heartbeat slowed down, but it was because she lacked blood, he drained her!!!

Cassian lifted her into his arms, he turned to take her away from here, but stopped dead in his tracks when Jeremy emerged from the shadows. A cunning smile curved his blood-stained lips, and he let out a satisfied sigh, his red eyes looked even redder.

"Brother, how can you keep such fresh blood only to yourself? Sharing once in a while won’t take away your dignity." Jeremy began, ignoring the monstrous glare in Cassian’s eyes. "To be honest, after becoming one of you, I drank blood, but hers.... To tell you the truth, her blood was the best thing I’ve ever tasted! I couldn’t...stop myself."

He licked the remnants that remained on his lips, and the murderous glare in Cassian’s eyes intensified.

"I will rip your tongue out!!"
