Chapter 242: Run! (2)

"Not even a proper welcome?" Elijah’s voice held a tinge of disappointment when Elian’s sword materialized in his tight grip. His gaze flickered to the twin sword, then his brother who was staring at him with those death beams called eyes. He pulled a long face, displeased by Elian’s quick action to fight him already.

For the first time, he could see in Elian’s bloody eyes that he really has no intention of holding himself back together. Elian was more than ruthless in battle, he kills in the most wicked ways, and just thinking about facing his brother when he’s this mad excited Elijah.

This was what he wanted, wasn’t it?

"A quick reminder to you, this isn’t Carmarthen." Elian reminded his brother, charging towards him with advanced steps. "In this place, we don’t have to hide, so you might as well draw your sword before I rip your head off in two." He growled, revealing his sharp fangs and instantly lunged forward in lightning speed, the clashing sound of iron blade reverberating in the hallway.

On the opposite side of the hallway where it was strangely empty, Madeline held tight onto Inna’s hand as they continued to run down the hallway, looking for a safe place to hide until they were sure it was safe to come out. From time to time, they’d look back to make sure they weren’t being followed, and when they made it to a divided path in the hallway, Inna suddenly stopped running.

"Hold on." She said in a tone like she just remembered something.

"Inna?" Madeline was forced to stop as well. Inna looked around the corridor and suddenly pushed the thought in her head aside.

"Damn Modesty!" She said between her teeth before lifting up the hem of her dress. She exposed her creamy thighs in the open, but before Madeline could clarify if she had gone mad, she noticed a black band around Inna’s left thigh, and it held a gun.

"Gun??"

Stunned, she watched Inna pull it out before adjusting her skirt properly. It was just their luck that the hallway happened to be empty. Madeline didn’t know if she should be impressed or not, but in a critical moment like this, she was bound to call Inna smart for bringing a gun with her.

"Did you see Cassian on your way here? He left the main hall to--"

"Cassian is a vampire who can fight for himself." Inna grabbed Madeline’s wrist, "we need to worry about ourselves. The only thing that can keep us protected is this gun Orson gave me. Let’s find those friends of yours and make sure they know what’s..!!..."

A shocking gasp suddenly escaped from Inna’s lips when a figure stepped out from one of the corners up ahead. He grabbed an armored guard by his neck, raising the guard up so high while choking the life out of him. The guard’s struggle was evident as he tried to free himself from his killer’s hold, his legs dangling in the air.

Madeline’s face drained of colors as she stepped back slowly, silently and cautiously. Her hand was protectively stretched to Inna’s front as they both moved back together, mortified by the scene in front of them.

While the familiar figure continued to choke the guard till it no longer moved, Inna’s trembling lips parted slightly.

"J.... Jeremy?" His name left her lips in a shocking whisper, and her hands flew to her mouth when he turned his head to look at her, as though he heard his name. Inna’s racing heart momentarily dropped, and she shook her head in disbelief when she looked deep into his unusual red eyes, refusing to believe the sight in front of her.

"You’re..... how are you?? How are you alive??" Inna couldn’t hold back the question, and she would have stopped walking if Madeline wasn’t by her side, persuading her to move.

"That isn’t Jeremy." Madeline tried to snap Inna out of her morbid state. "We have to run Inna! Let’s go!"

When Madeline dragged her, Inna’s feet finally moved and they took the left path. Jeremy, who watched their figure descend in the wrong path, smirked wickedly. Returning his cold gaze to the man he had killed, he dropped the body and nonchalantly stepped on it before going after them.

Madeline and Inna ran as fast as their legs could carry them, taking Jeremy away from where the crowd might be. When Inna turned back to see if he was coming, her face turned ghostly, knowing he was hot on their heels.

"In here!" Madeline found a door, but when she tried to open it, the door appeared jammed, to her greatest grief, and she gritted her teeth in frustration. "Oh no! Not now!"

"Try to open the door, I’ll hold him off." Inna said then expertly filled her gun with bullets and pointed it at the figure of Jeremy that approached them. Staying focused and refusing to let her hands tremble, she fired the gun at him, and the bullet hit him straight in the chest, sending Jeremy to stagger back.

Inna released a breath she never knew she had been holding when he stopped walking. She lowered her gun, wondering if the bullet had done its job, but to her dismay, Jeremy lifted his head to look at her, a cruel smile playing on his lips as he stood straight.

"Nice shot." He praised in a tone that sounded foreign to Inna. "But it’s no use." And he advanced towards them.

"Maddie!" Inna alerted Madeline who was still trying her very best to open the door, "it doesn’t work on him, hurry up!"

"I’m trying!"

Inna continued to waste her bullet on Jeremy who was unaffected by the attack, but a lot of it was enough to slow him down. To Madeline’s delight, the door finally opened after she hit it with her shoulder.

"It’s opened! Inna." Madeline stepped into the room first, and Inna followed. Together, they closed the door and locked it.

"Quick! Look for anything heavy to keep the door in place."
