Chapter 241: Run! (1)

"Abbot??!" Cassian’s demeanor paled drastically when his brother spoke to Elijah without a veil to hide his appearance. At first, he thought he was imagining things, but after several blinks, it turned out he wasn’t hallucinating. Abbot was standing right there, speaking with the enemy, and he still looked human compared to Elijah who’s dim red eyes held a tinge of malice.

This means Abbot is still human, but Elijah hates humans, so how does he know Elijah? And why are they here??

With the soft tune of the orchestra being played in the main hall, Cassian couldn’t grasp the conversation they were having, but he refused to look away, worried that he might lose sight of them if he did.

Watching them for what felt like minutes, they suddenly parted ways and went in the opposite direction. Elijah slipped his mask back on before disappearing from his sight, and that left only Abbot who continued to walk down the hallway.

With a deep frown gracing his face, a look of red flashed in Cassian’s Amber-brown eyes, and he stealthily moved away from his hiding place, following the stranger he was still finding difficult to believe it was Abbot. Could the mastermind shapeshift? After what he has come across so far in this case, shapeshifting would be the least of his surprises.

But he sensed no dark energy coming from Abbot. He was confused about what to make of this situation.

The more Cassian followed him down the hallway, the more he realized Abbot was heading towards the exit of the palatial building. From time to time, Abbot would look behind him as though he could sense someone was following him, but Cassian was quick to hide away. Seeing Abbot, Cassian couldn’t resist connecting the two dots that linked between Madeline’s information and Lily’s information.

If Jeremy is here, was the second person he went to meet Abbot?? For unknown reasons, Cassian could feel a surge of anger build within him, and if those two had any contribution with the Mastermind, he will be the one to tear them in half.

"If Juliana could see this." He muttered under his breath, wishing there was a way to capture this before stepping out of his hiding place and following him.

Abbot left the palatial building from the main exit. Since he was human, the guards let him through as he was considered harmless but unbeknownst to Abbot, he had an angry vampire silently trailing behind him.

Cassian continuously followed him through the night like a shadow, his hands clenching into a tight fist as he quickened his pace. When Abbot got closer to Whitebridge’s graveyard, Cassian could no longer hold himself back.

When he got close enough, he tapped Abbot by the shoulder. Tensed by the unexpected approach, Abbot spun around to look at him, only to receive a punch in the face that knocked him out completely.

Cassian’s deep red eyes glinted in the night as he dragged Abbot’s body to a corner.

"You better have a good explanation for this before I rip you in half." He muttered to the unconscious Abbot, wondering where to keep his body since he would still be out for hours.

By the time Inna and Elian arrived at the palatial building, Inna was immediately taken by the splendid decorations, and for the first time, she felt homesick. She could still remember every celebration held in her Father’s mansion, and it all still feels like yesterday when the family still lived together, and the never ending troubles was a good way to start the day in her Father’s mansion.

"This is more grand than I had expected." Elian muttered as he stood beside Inna, and she nodded silently, releasing a soft sigh. "Don’t you ever feel homesick?"

"Home....?" Elian’s brow arched, seemingly lost on what she was referring to.

"Don’t you ever miss home?" She elaborated her question, and Elian’s brow rose when he understood what she had been asking, and he shrugged nonchalantly.

"I once did." He replied curtly, "but not anymore." As they walked through the hallway, they greeted the guests that passed them with only a simple bow, and Elian continued, "I’m quite surprised, in Carmarthen all the royals are bound to marry someone with the same level of nobility, but here, every maiden is given the chance to be chosen as a bride."

"Indeed, King Alaric has been doing his best so far. I wonder if he’ll be able to handle it all by himself with Cassian and Orson being here and not by his side." Inna thoughtfully inquired to herself, knowing how much King Alaric and those two worked as a team.

"Why do you think he gave Cassian the opportunity to escape?" Elian asked her, "he’ll be fine. I’ve seen his capabilities."

"Won’t you introduce yourself to him? You don’t want everyone to know who you are but you can still show up and see your Family. You said you wanted to leave, at least make that decision knowing you’ve accomplished something."

Elian’s brow knitted puzzledly at her words, then a teasing smile graced his lips. "You remember?"

Inna looked at the red-haired vampire, and her cheeks were tinted slightly pink knowing fully well what he meant. She averted her gaze, clearing off the sudden lump in her throat.

"We’re talking about you here, don’t change the topic."

"The both of you are here." A feminine voice disrupted Elian’s moment to tease Inna, and when they looked up, Madeline approached them with a look of relief.

"Thank goodness the both of you are alright." She held Inna’s hand, and that left the two utterly confused.

"Why? Did Cassian find out?" Inna’s eyes widened slightly, but Madeline shook her head. "It’s a more pressing matter, there are Fiends in here, scattered all over the place and we can’t spot them, we need to be together so we can protect each...."

"Excuse me, but I have to interrupt your conversation." Elijah’s presence alerted the three of them who instinctively stepped back, and Elian stepped forward, keeping the two of them protected behind him.

"Brother, we meet again." Elijah’s smile barely held any genuity to it, and Elian’s eyes instantly switched, sensing his brother’s motive.

"Run." He said. Madeline grabbed Inna’s wrist and they took the opposite direction, while Elian didn’t hesitate to lunge an attack at his brother.
