Chapter 206: Elian’s Story (1)

"I’ll tell it to you as a story." Elian began in a soft tone as he grabbed a chair from his study table, taking his seat. Inna sat at the edge of the bed, placing one of his pillows on her thighs as she looked more than ready to listen to Elian’s story.

"I like stories."

"Well I’m awful at telling them so don’t expect anything fantastic." Elian thought it’d be best to advise her beforehand, but the young lady was barely shakened, her brown eyes glimmering with endless curiosity.

"I’ll try not to."

Sitting back, Elian remained quiet for almost a minute, as though he was building up the energy he needed to dive into his traumatic past, and only after he let out a deep breath did he finally begin.

"There was once a lovely woman who got married to a king and lived in the luxury of the palace, their lives were going exactly the way they had hoped for. A happy marriage was what they had, and a happy marriage led to the new Queen giving birth to twins who unfortunately, were abducted by night creatures known as the vampires. They were the first children of the King, so they had many responsibilities weighing on them as a child. You could say the twins were inseparable as they grew up, they did a lot of things together, but one of the twins felt hassled by how everything in his life was centered in the palace alone. Even at his displeasure, he foolishly kept quiet and did what he could for the people."

"What... What are the names of these twins?" Inna asked with urgency laced to her tone, her mind racing at the news of The king’s missing children that were labeled dead a long time ago when there was not a single sight of them.

"You and Elijah are..." her eyes widened in disbelief, "the two of you are the lost PRINCE’S??!!!!" She nearly screamed it out from shock, but had managed to keep her tone down when Elian signaled with his hands for her to keep calm.

"Not anymore, we no longer hold such titles, I’m just Elian, and he’s... Elijah."

Inna grew speechless as she froze at her spot, she could barely blink as the confession stung her straight to her spine, and Elian continued, bringing the tone of his voice down a little like he wanted nobody else to hear him make this difficult journey to the past.

"The grand bonnet house used to be our great Grandfather’s traditional home, and after his death, it was part of the royal family tradition to pay the bonnet estate our respect when the auspicious day arrived. We were only seven at that time, and Elijah was adamant on not going. He never wanted to go, and I was more of the silent one who readily obeyed our Father without complaint."

He paused, trying to gather his thoughts, "Elijah remained persistent, he didn’t believe paying respect to the dead would bring him any luck, he labeled it as blasphemy, he spoke his mind without caring about the daring consequences, and I admired him for that. Our late mother was the only one who was capable of convincing Elijah to go at that time, and I regret never raising my voice to speak that day, cause if we hadn’t gone there, we wouldn’t be victims to these circumstances."

"But... but how did you get abducted?" Inna finally found her voice, her mind still coming to terms with the fact that she was sitting in front of the lost prince of Carmarthen.

"I don’t remember," Elian shook his head with his arms folded, "That day, Elijah and I took a stroll down the little bridge when we were done paying respect to our antecedents, but the next thing we saw was the darkness that invaded our visions. I just assumed one of the Vampires disguised himself as a guard and that’s how we were taken, cause we never saw who took us captive that night." He breathed out.

"We were confined in darkness for a whole week, with no food, or water. The oxygen was tight, we couldn’t breathe properly in the cage they locked us in. It was our first time being away from the family, so we got scared. We both cried out, called out to anyone to get us out, but no one came. We kept quiet later on, slowly giving up on living when the confinement finally opened, and we were dragged out by two strange men in a red cloak. It was a very dark place with lantern lights lit up in all directions, and there was a star symbol on the wall, the same one that was engraved into my brother and I." He showed Inna the star-like symbol at the back of his neck.

"Cas was able to figure out my identity when he saw this, every vampire except your brother has this symbol engraved to their skin. It is what they use to mark every vampire." He sighed for the second time, throwing his head back. "They told us the darkness was our new home, they told us we could never return to our family, but when we proved stubborn, we got physically tortured until we met him."

Inna moved closer to Elian, "who?"

"The mastermind behind everything," Elian’s gaze instantly darkened at the thought of the monster, "the reason why it’s so difficult to find him is cause he isn’t just a vampire, he’s a living ghost who possesses the body of people, lures them and uses their body to make an army of vampires and Fiends. Humans are abducted because he uses them as a vessel and some, he kills, trapping their souls and turning them into Fiends who do his bidding."

Listening to Elian speak what he knew, Inna could feel her skin grow cold in slight terror. "All those people, that means none of them are human? No one’s alive??"

When Elian didn’t respond, Inna’s face went pale as her heart grew heavy, already aware of the answer to her question.

"Elijah and I, we got so terrified after seeing what we were up against. Unarmed, we pleaded for him to take us back home, we couldn’t stand the sight of what was before us, and he agreed."

"What?"

"Yeah, Elijah and I, we were shocked too, but who knew the moment we ended up in the streets of Carmarthen, we would be waiting to hear our father declare us dead to the people. Because of that, no one believed we were the sons of The King, they refused to let us see him, we were treated like rags, they made a joke of Elijah and I, we got kicked out of the upper East quarters, and our hatred for humans started from there."

"I got sick since I wasn’t used to living such a thriving life. Elijah had to do so many errands so he could treat me back to health. We had no one, and we were afraid of losing each other, so we did our best to survive until we figured out a way. When I wasn’t getting any better, he showed up again."

"The Mastermind?"

Elijah nodded, " no one knows his name, he promised to get me back to health if we agreed to work with him. He said he’d train us, he promised to make us strong enough to get our revenge on everyone who abandoned us. I didn’t have a good feeling about his proposal and refused, but Elijah, he talked me into agreeing so I could get better. I was very naive and sensitive, so I agreed since we assumed it was for the best, and that was how it all started."
