Chapter 117: The Search (2)
~~~
Arriving at the graveyard close to the bonnet estate, Cassian and Orson got down from the carriage. Staring at the empty graveyard that showed no sign of life, Cassian was about to go in through the gate, but was instantly stopped by Orson who held his arm, pulling him back.
"Hold on, shouldn’t you confirm if they’re ghosts there first?" Orson couldn’t believe Cassian was about to go in there without thinking of the precautions that it would hold on him, but the young lad released his arm from Orson’s grip, already growing impatient as his eyes switched from Amber-brown to red, and then to the usual brown.
"I don’t give a fuck." Was his response before he ventured into the graveyard. It was important for all living and nonliving things to avoid him at this point because the anger within him could certainly not be matched. As long as anything gets in his way of finding Maddie, he wouldn’t hesitate to tear whoever it is to shreds.
"You should go after him." Amadeus’ concerned tone reached the ears of Orson. "You of all people should know how the Young Lord behaves when his anger is triggered, and it is understandable since it’s his wife. But you’re the only one who can tame him for the meantime until the new lady is found."
"Sigh.... I know...I know." Orson brushed his fingers through his hair, taking it to the back as he was just as worried for the both of them. He silently thought to himself for a moment, pursing his lips together before going in to help Cassian survey the area.
He doubts any ghost would go after him with his current anger.
Stepping in, Orson walked through the rows of gravestones lined at both sides. He stared at the years each gravestone was buried including the names of the owner of the grave. Everything looked normal and that made his eyes squint into a skeptical look.
’Why would Madeline come here?’ knowing he couldn’t get the answer by just asking himself, he moved forward. He finally spotted Cassian not too far ahead. The young lad had crouched to the earthly ground, and when Orson moved closer to see what he was staring at, there were visible footprints on the ground as though someone had been dragged.
"Hey Orson, can you tell the difference between the feet of a man and a woman?" He asked, and Orson didn’t even need to know the difference, it was already clear, and that made his face turn ghostly pale.
"That means someone must have...."
"Taken her? You’re not too far from the truth." A voice interrupted them, and when they turned to see who it was, Cassian could recognize the red-haired stranger who approached them.
"Cas." He greeted with a smile, but Cassian was certainly not in the mood to exchange fake pleasantries with the stranger.
"Why are you here?"
"Suspecting me?" The red-haired stranger tilted his head at him. "Shouldn’t my presence be a mere coincidence to you?"
"Coincidence my foot!" Cassian spat. "Why would a vampire like yourself wander into a place like the graveyard?"
"Am I not a dead man?"
"Forget all this, you just said she was taken." Orson repeated his answers for his ears to hear. "How would you know if you never saw it?"
"I could tell you, but then you’re not being nice. Okay so maybe I caught a glimpse of a woman who looked like your wife got taken away by some...." He paused. "If I tell you the name, you won’t believe it."
Orson and Cassian exchanged glances, silently wondering if they could trust him. The red-haired stranger patiently waited for their decision, and they finally looked in his direction.
"I’ll do anything you ask, but tell me..who has my wife?" Cassian took the risk, and that earned him a smile from the red-haired vampire.
Back in the room, Madeline could feel her body system growing weaker by the minute. It made her wonder what Jeremy must have forced her to inhale cause it wasn’t only starting to affect her body, but her breathing as well.
"I can’t breathe properly." She inwardly panicked, also catching her breath at the same time when it felt like her lungs had abnormally tightened. With her mouth gagged, she could only breathe through her nostril, and unfortunately, she needed more air.
"Enjoying your time, my dear Madeline?" Jeremy approached the bed where he had left the woman weak and helpless. "You won’t invite me to join you on the bed?"
"Mhmmn..." Madeline tried to speak despite being gagged. She wanted to inform Jeremy that she couldn’t breathe properly, but unfortunately the young man was too frozen in his need for lust to notice her critical predicament.
"I need him to find us so don’t worry, your husband will be here soon." With greedy eyes, his hands reached to pull off her dress as he unhooked the rope, and Madeline shook her head wildly with her eyes widened in alarm, begging him not to do it.
She could feel her corset loosing, and that made her face turn white at the mere thought of being exposed to a man like Jeremy.
"But I have to." Jeremy wiped her tears away. "Getting a taste of you wouldn’t hurt. I also need to put Cas in his place and getting rid of you would be a sight to watch. To put it simply, I’ll be killing three birds with one stone."
Turning deaf ears to her muffled plea, he continued to unhook the rope that held her dress in place before sliding it down her shoulders. Her beguiling fair shoulders were exposed to his gaze, and Jeremy couldn’t resist running his nose from her beautiful neck down to the elegant curve of her shoulder, and Madeline was left to struggle as she tried to breathe normally.
It was either fighting for her life or stopping Jeremy. But one thing was for sure, she’d rather die than have him molest her like this!
"You smell so nice." He inhaled her body scent, causing her to shiver in fear as he pulled her dress down till her cleavages became visible to his gaze. "My my, I wonder what you taste like there."
Madeline shook her head, silently telling him not to do it, but it was obvious he wasn’t going to listen to her plea. Hot tears streamed down her eyes and so she did the only thing that came to mind.
"Lily!" She inwardly called the little girl’s name in her mind. "Lily! Please, I need your help!" If Lily was going to listen to the voice in her head, Madeline barely knew, but she was hoping she did.
Standing not too far from the entrance of the door, Lily’s gaze shifted from the man who was trying to undress Madeline. Becoming aware of the situation, Lily looked at Madeline who was struggling to breathe, and that rendered the woman powerless as she could barely fight for herself.
Unbeknownst to Madeline, the little girl’s fist balled at her side as her darkened gaze shifted to Jeremy. Looking around, she took notice of the vase that rested on the table. Staring intently at it, Madeline watched in surprise as the vase that was resting on the table moved with lightning speed, only to come in contact with Jeremy.
"Ahh!!" The vase hit him straight in the head, sending him to the ground before the little girl vanished from the room.
Madeline blinked, looking dazed to see Lily move the vase with her gaze alone. Returning her attention to Jeremy who was still trying to recover from having his head hit with a vase, this would have been her perfect chance to escape if she wasn’t struggling with herself to move and even breathe.
’Cassian.’ another round of warm tears escaped from her closed eyelids at the thought of Cassian.
