Chapter 115: Missing (3)

Chapter 115: Missing (3)

"Cas, hold on." Building up his willpower, Orson took hurried strides to catch up with his friend who had halted in his tracks. Standing before him, he looked into Cassian’s eyes as he glared a ’what do you want’ question at him.

"Please don’t kill anyone just yet." Orson felt the strong need to remind him. "You know your wife better than anyone, she must still be there, or it’s possible she got lost in the middle of taking a stroll, or got distracted with something else. What I’m trying to say is, we shouldn’t overreact until we’ve concluded on what exactly is going on." Orson voiced out his opinion to the young lad who averted his gaze for a brief moment, but he said nothing as though he was controlling the anger and worry inside of him.

"Listen," Orson continued in a softer tone. "How about we keep this to ourselves and scout the graveyard first, if we don’t find her after thorough investigation, then we can take the next step." He suggested, but Cassian let out a soft hiss while rubbing his temples as if he was trying to get rid of a disturbing headache.

"I am not angry." He explained to Orson before turning away from his gaze, "I am worried because it’s not like Maddie to vanish off without informing someone about her whereabouts. I had a bad feeling from the start when she stepped out with Isabella, and now my feelings are confirmed."

His expression hardened like the rocks of Dundee, further frightening Orson who could swear he saw a dark mist emanating from his friend’s body. He watched his fingers curl into fist, and Orson decided to say something else before the volcano that was presently boiling within his friend gushed out to burn everyone one of them alive.

"First, you need to stop ’worrying’." In the middle of trying to soothe the lava in his friend, they suddenly heard the sound of a carriage, and after that was the opening of the main door. Snapping out of Orson’s pep talks, Cassian went down the stairs in a hurry, leaving Orson behind and ignoring his words to wait for him.

Making it down the long stairs, he watched Isabella step into the house. Her expression filled with a thousand worries as she barely paid attention to where she was going. Reaching the stairs, Isabella let out a frightening gasp after coming to stand before the devil himself, and the look in his eyes told her she was in deep trouble as he approached her unhurriedly like a merciless villain.

"C..C...Cass.."

"Where is my wife?" He asked, interrupting her stammering and causing the woman to flinch at the noticeable anger that was laced to his tone. He moved forward while Isabella cautiously took a step back. "You stepped out of the mansion with Madeline, and you dare come alone??!!"

"Cassian." Orson stood between the two of them before Cassian could get his hands on her, competently separating them on time and keeping Cassian away from Isabella before he did something that would eventually lead him behind bars. "Listen to me, don’t say a word to her, let me do the talking."

"I won’t hurt her." He asserted, his expression deadpan as he looked Orson in the eyes. The fire swirling in them made Orson aware of how much anger he was holding inside of him but still... Orson couldn’t risk watching Cassian make a slip and getting himself into trouble.

"You won’t hurt her, but let me talk with her while you.....try to relax."

At this point, almost everyone had gathered at the stairs. Jeremy stood at the top of the corridor, watching the drama that happened below. Abbot stepped out of his own study to clarify what the ruckus was all about, but he spotted his wife who was trembling in fear, and Orson holding Cassian back from going near her.

"What is going on?"

Hearing her husband’s voice, Isabella immediately hurried to stand behind him, the tears she had been holding started to escape from her eyelid as she remained hidden behind Abbot for protection.

"I didn’t do anything, Madeline disappeared from the graveyard and he thinks I have something to do with it." She pointed at Cassian who’s eyes were frightening the daylights out of her. "I promise I didn’t do anything, believe me she just vanished and I’m just as shocked. It...it...it has never happened before and... I was so scared." For the first time, Isabella admitted to herself that what happened at the graveyard had stunned her greatly.

She’s heard of people strangely disappearing and vanishing at night, but who knew she’d witness someone vanishing before her own eyes!

"Cassian..."

"Let’s go." Orson tried to take him out of the house. "We have to leave, now, we can settle this later, but we need to find Madeline." In an attempt to convince him to leave, Orson continued to drag him out, reminding him constantly that they had to find Madeline, and only then did the young lad finally budge.

"If I don’t find Maddie, you’re dead." Was his warning to Isabella before he left the house. Isabella tried to prove her innocence, feeling her heart crash upon hearing Cassian utter those words to her, but Orson made a zip motion, advising her to keep quiet before she made things worse.

They stepped out of the mansion, Cassian and Orson got into the carriage. The young man who had been sent to watch Madeline, whispered to Amadeus the location where Cassian and Orson planned on heading to.

"Do you think Isabella is responsible?" Orson asked, and Cassian remained silent for a while before shaking his head slightly. "No."

"You don’t suspect her?" Orson sounded surprised.

"I don’t."

"Then why did you act that way in there? I freaking tried to save your stubborn ass from ending up in jail."

"Shut up, we still need to find Madeline and make sure she’s safe." There was no hint of smile or the usual mischievous look he always gave. His mood hasn’t changed from the devil waiting to slaughter the animal that dared go after his wife.

"So, who do you suspect?" Orson wanted to ensure they were both on the right track, but Cassian said nothing in response and just leaned against the window. He stared at the houses and trees they passed, his gaze envisioning his concern and worry as he tried to understand the sudden disappearance of his wife.

"You have to stay safe Maddie." He muttered before closing his eyes.
