Chapter 114: Missing (2)
Chapter 114: Missing (2)
"Why isn’t she back yet? We need to return to the mansion since she has wasted both our time here." Isabella paced back and forth while waiting for Madeline to return. The servants tried to keep up with her roundabout pacing as the umbrella still dutifully stayed above her head.
After waiting for about five minutes and yet no sight of Madeline, Isabella was starting to regret letting her wander off alone into somewhere scary like the graveyard. She doesn’t know Madeline that much but so far she could tell how easily the girl gets distracted with anything that catches her interest, and it is just outlandish that she chose to look into a graveyard - graveyard of all places?!!!!
"She’s even crazier than I expected, and I still can’t see what Cassian saw in her."
Sighing out loud, Isabella took a deep breath and crossed to the other side of the road. She quietly stepped into the awry graveyard, trying her best to find Madeline who had wandered into the left direction, but to her puzzlement, upon reaching where she was sure to find Madeline, the lady in turn was nowhere to be seen.
"Madeline?" She called her name softly, but received no response. The silence that filled the graveyard left Isabella slightly worried as her eyes roamed the area. The servants quickly joined in, keeping quiet while also searching for the new lady as instructed by Isabella.
"Madeline??" Isabella continued to search for her, and the race of her heart kept increasing when she couldn’t sight Madeline anywhere. The servants also approached her with the same result, making a sweat trail down the side of Isabella’s face as she came to the conclusion that Madeline had disappeared from sight.
"God, where did she go??" Isabella tried not to panic. Her main fear wasn’t because Madeline was missing, but she was more worried about what Cassian might do to her if he finds out that she lost his wife in a graveyard.
"This is not good. What should I do?"

In Cassian’s study room, Orson sat on the big desk, curiously going through the box Cassian claimed to have found in William’s abandoned study. His eyes widened slightly as he stared at the neverending content piled up inside the box.
"You really believe Uncle William knows something about the missing case?" He asked with his prying gaze still intently fixed on the box, but when he received no response, he turned his head to the right, looking at the young lad who was sitting at the edge of the window, lost in his own world.
His side profile under the warmth of the sun made him appear majestic with his hair still packed in a messy bun, and Orson would have used the opportunity he had to admire his friend’s look if he didn’t display an expression that showed he was feeling disturbed about something he couldn’t fathom.
"Cassian, everything alright?" Orson stopped going through the box as he gave Cassian his attention, and the young lad who was staring miles away into the distance finally glanced at him.
"What happened?" Inquired Orson. At that instant, a knock on the door interrupted the conversation that was about to begin between the two of them, and Orson’s eyes squinted at the young lad. "Are you expecting someone?"
"Come in." Cassian gave his orders, and a young man walked into his study with his head bowed in respect.
"Lord Cassian." The unknown man greeted before raising his head up to meet the impassive stare of Cassian. The young lad said nothing in his presence, silently waiting for him to speak as he hoped to expect some assuring news, but from the hesitant look on his subordinate’s face, it was obvious he wouldn’t be getting any, and that made him come down from the edge where he was sitting.
"Speak." For the first time, Orson could feel the terrifying coldness emanating from his best friend’s tone as though he got pushed into the ice of the northern sea. Looking lost as though why Cassian would send death glares to the unknown stranger before them, Orson waited to hear what had awakened the sleeping devil.
The unknown stranger shuddered at Cassian’s ill-tone, one that promised his generation severe destruction if he didn’t speak up. Taking a hard swallow, the fellow finally opened his mouth to say,
"Lady Madeline..... she’s.... she’s missing." The stranger revealed, and Orson, who was also waiting to hear what happened, could feel his face turn pale at the news of the new lady missing.
"Missing? Who? How? What’s going on?" Confused, he looked at Cassian, hoping for some answers, but the look in his Amber-brown eyes blazed to the point Orson didn’t dare to speak. An opposite reaction to the unfathomable expression on his face
"Missing?" Cassian scoffed as though he heard a joke. He moved away from the window and joined the fellow at the center of his study, his gaze demanding as they peered down at the shuddering human.
"Where is my wife?"
"I promise I followed them like you asked..." The man’s voice began to quiver in fear, knowing that if he ended up enraging his boss, a bullet could go through his head before he could count one. "Everything went fine. They visited the places you had mentioned, but then the New lady got interested in taking a look at the graveyard close to the bonnet estate, and she never stepped out."
"What about Lady Isabella?"
"She never went in, she waited for the new lady to step out, and when she didn’t, she went into the graveyard to find her."
"Orson!" Hearing his name being mentioned, Orson stood at attention beside Cassian who was silently boiling within, like a volcano getting ready to erupt as a deadly glint flashed in his eyes.
"Get the carriage ready." Was all he said before he stormed out of his study.
Orson swallowed his nervousness after feeling the flinching cold that penetrated his skin through his clothes. He wasn’t sure of the last time when he had to deal with Cassian’s anger and experiencing it all over again was one thing he promised to avoid.
There was a reason why the young lad never gets angry, cause when he does, even hell comes alive to take orders from him.
