Chapter 281: Their Pain

Chapter 281: Their Pain

_

’I put up the barrier just in time’ Anzai thought panting, he drew on his breathing, if it was a little time late it would have all been all over. ’But...’ from the corner of his eyes, he looked behind him. ’...I wasn’t fast enough’ he gaped at the burnt corpses outside the barrier that belonged to the Bio-genetics who didn’t make it. His jaw tightened, every time more and more and more.

"Dammit!" he cursed, he thought he was stronger than this, but each time the bio-genetics dies right before his eyes, a part of himself died too, the anguish of seeing them losing their lives as they fight with every fiber of their bone, it was heart wrenching he has watch soldiers fall in war and died in the most painful way but this... his teeth clenched hard, this was different.

During The Trip To Fukuoka

It was almost sundown, the bio-genetics prepared a building they would camp in, inside was wide with several spaces looking like an auditorium, each and every one of them set their spaces to settle in. The rooftop was ripped off, showing the now orange skies.

"Is this all of them?!" Anzai asked, he was seated on a boulder, staring at the bag that held dog tags stained with blood. His eyes saddened.

"Yes sir," Ren said with sad eyes, he and Mizuki were asked to gather the dog tags of the dead bio-genetics.

"21 in number, sir," Mizuki said with an unreadable expression.

"I see," Anzai said sternly.

’Over and Over and over and over AGAIN!’

His trembling eyes fixed on the bloody tag chains with their names engraved on them.

’Their lives are taken away from them... they shoulder responsibility bigger than any of us would ever carry, their pain, their tears...’

_

The Bio-genetics stood before 74 pictures were well framed on the wall, arranged properly, along with dog tags against it to identify, below were a countless bunch of flowers, and offerings along with insects lighted.

"Our comrades we lost," Daiki said in recognition of the pictures.

"Prime Minister Kiyoshi made this place to honor the bio-genetics who fought honorably for humanity so that they would never be forgotten" Kado explained.

"It is called The Wall Of The Fallen Heroes"

"I don’t believe this" Ryu said stepping forward with tears in his eyes.

"San," Mosu said walking up to his picture against the wall, the tears falling on their own accord.

"Asano," Raiden said with trembling eyes seeing her picture.

"Rin" Ren said in tears.

The bio-genetics stared at the pictures with emotion.

Yuki’s sad eyes were fixed on Asano’s picture.

Sumi stood before Akira and Izumi’s picture.

"They are not forgotten they never were... and they shall each live in the memory of every civilian and every one of us," Anzai said sternly.

They broke into tears, silent cries and sobs could be heard, filling the hall as the bio-genetics mourned the loss of their fallen comrades letting out their grief and pain.

Hiro stood at the center amidst others crying, his blind gaze upon the hung framed pictures, he could sense the contents in structures.

’Their pain and suffering...’

_

’...Their pain and suffering have become mine, my fate is tied with them’, a tear slid down Anzai’s cheek. ’How different would it have been if none of this never happened’ he could picture it in his head. ’If these kids lived a normal life...’, suddenly his body gave out, as he fell to his knees coughing tons of blood. The barrier protecting them broke.

"General Anzai!" Hiro yelled placing his hands on the ground, his body felt so numb even if he tried to move. ’Move dammit!’ he mentally yelled at his body.

"Stay there!" he barked, Hiro’s body went stiff at his outburst. "All of you stay put!"

Anzai drawled on his breathing, trying to heave it, he pants weakly. ’Dammit,’ he cursed coughing more blood. His stern eyes leisurely raised to the colossal Kaijus before them.

"General Anzai," Shino said with trembling eyes.

Tears filled Yumi’s eyes she used her fist to clean them off but they still kept falling.

Mirai’s eyes were on him too, all saddened, including Kaneki and the rest.

"General Anzai" Hiro’s eyes were shocked, he could feel it, he could feel his aura, it was slowly weakening.

"Listen to me all of you" he began in a very weak tone, but they heard him due to their enhanced hearing. "This war is far from..." he coughed more blood spilling.

Tears filled Hiro’s eyes threatening to fall.

"This war is..." he tried to control his breathing. "Is far from over. That thing will stop at nothing from wiping us from the face of this earth, I know you all think all hope is lost... but we all knew this will not be easy to grasp, we must all face the horrors that come with it" he pants. "But do not give up because if you do now..."

"General Anzai" Ten cried.

"General Anzai!" the rest cried calling his name.

Yuki was still, tears falling on their own accord. Hiro was still too, his trembling blind eyes covered in tears but they couldn’t fall.

"... if you all give up now" his teeth clenched. "Then everyone who had died to this point would have died for nothing!"

They froze at his words. "Rise back to your feet..." his body trembled as he forced his body to stand, it was a weak effort because his body was in serious pain, and blood continued to spill to the ground. "...Raise your head and look your opponent in the eyes!" he yelled his strong gaze at the colossal Kaiju, the one eyes that lay in the center looking down on him.

"Targets still alive," it said in its chaotic voice.

’It’s only a matter of time before it set off another beam, it will be too late by then, guess I have no choice but to use it’ his lips in a thin line pressed in a smile.
