Chapter 282: Uchida Anzai

’It’s only a matter of time before it sets off another beam, it will be too late by then, guess I have no choice but to use it’ his lips in a thin line pressed in a smile.

He looked up to the skies. ’How ironic’ he thought. ’Uchida Anzai’ he closed his eyes, but his smile remained. ’Is this as far as we go?’ he opened them. ’Haruto...’

_

Years Ago

Anzai leaned against the iron, the ship passing over the bridge blew its loud horn, the wind gusting around swiftly, Anzai turned to Haruto beside him, his eyes on the city with a smile against his lips.

"I love this city Anzai" he began, the wind carrying his short spiky dim red hair weightlessly. "I love the people... which is why I want to protect it, as any General would"

Anzai sighed, bringing out a pack of a cigar. "Always a peacemaker old friend," he said, taking a stick of cigar into his mouth and lightening it.

"There are oppressors too you know and when there are such it calls for peacemakers like us... don’t you think?"

"It’s a circle" he blew smoke from his lips. " A circle of peace and war"

Haruto chuckled lightly. "Well times of war are over, we have a peaceful nation," he says but then his lips are pressed in a thin line.

Anzai catches this as he faces him back.

"If war ever broke loose again, if..." he said clearly as he faced Anzai with stern eyes. "We are the ones who will be the light for the next generation... we saw awful things in our time, our new generations should know nothing but the peace that’s why we’re here" he adds with a smile.

Anzai’s eyes trembled at his words and then he frowned looking away. "We can’t completely shield them, don’t talk about unreasonable things... Good grief! You said it yourself, times of war are over"

Haruto smiled. "Whenever I look at my son’s face, It’s a sudden reminder that there are other worlds beyond, it’s amazing isn’t it how one infant can change the world, our view, and..." he closed his eyes. "The way we come through things"

"Haruto"

"I love him more than anything..." he faces Anzai. "The name you gave him ’Hiro’ means prosperous" he grinned.

Anzai smiled, giving him a nod.

"Hiro will be prosperous, because he’s the bridge between two worlds, and he has you to look after him too"

"Don’t flatter me, man! He’s your son"

Haruto burst out a hard laugh.

"Hey, it’s not funny... I’m just a godfather here, Aiko is there too you know"

"That’s why Hiro is surrounded with lots of love" his eyes saddened. "We don’t know what the future holds but I believe we will be prosperous" he gave him a thumbs up.

Anzai’s smile broadens.

"Who knew two cadets would be best friends in the end," Haruto said, wrapping his arms around his neck as they exited the bridge.

"Yeah, who knew," Anzai said, staring into space as the memory of their youthful days flooded in. Since they first met at the camp, ever since they were inseparable.

’It is as you said Haruto... the future is unpredictable’

A bright blue light shone from Anzai stunning everyone.

’I’m sorry, friend... I couldn’t honor our friendship properly and kept my distance. I believed I depended on you too much and wanted to be a man of my own... I wasn’t there for you at your last moment but...’

"General Anzai," Hiro said as his blind eyes trembled.

’I have watched your son grow up to be a fine soldier... I’m sure you’re always watching... I believe too... Japan will be prosperous as you predicted. Hiro is that bridge and I can clearly see it now... if its anyone who would be entrusted with the future, it’s him’

"Listen Bio-genetics" He began, as a smile formed on his lips. "The past years I have spent with you all were worth it..."

"General Anzai!" Ten yelled with tears, the others cried too because his words sounded like his last.

"Ten..." he began. "You’re a smart prodigy and the future needs someone like you, with your ability you can usher in smart tactics that can help your comrades"

"Shino... your comrades count on your leadership... I believe you will pave a way for the more that I could ever do"

Tears gushed out of Shino’s eyes.

"Mirai... you’re strong, take care of Yumi okay. Yumi listen to your seniors"

Yumi cried and sobbed hard. Mirai covered her mouth, hot tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Kaneki... always stays on track. Mizuki, stay smiling always, even if that is a unique trait of yours"

Kaneki and Mizuki were in tears.

"Sumi... you’re not alone anymore"

Sumi’s fist clenched hard as her body trembled. "Lean on your comrades more okay?"

"Kaname, Daiki. Both of you should stay friends... Kaname doesn’t always scold Daiki for being dumb, everyone has their time to shine"

They both cried.

"Mosu, Raiden, Ren, Mary, Homura, Himari, Yuki, Ryu, Yuki"

They looked at him with tears spilling from their eyes.

"...stay strong!" he pants as he slowly raises his hand giving a sign with his fingers.

Haya reads them with her eyes, and then she bursts into tears, understanding the order.

"I’m counting on you Haya... taking this colossal Kaiju is top priority right now"

She forced her body up although she was hesitant. "Yes sir," she said, raising her hand.

"General Anzai," Hiro said faintly, he didn’t understand what he was about to do.

"Hiro" Anzai began the blue light circling on Anzai’s body along with Haya’s energy.

"Haya... what are you doing?" Hiro demanded.

Haya was shaking as tears gushed from her eyes.

"HAYA!"

Anzai’s body gave a loud pulse. ’This feeling’ Hiro thought with shaky eyes.

"General Anzai!"

Anzai turned and Hiro froze because he felt it. Anzai had a smile on his lips, cracks of blue energy covered his body. He said something but it was inaudible, Hiro’s eyes widened in pure shock.

"NOW HAYA!"
