Chapter 239: Hero’s death. 2
’System 009. Are you listening?’
There was no response to Viktor’s call. He again mumbled, ’System 009, are you listening?’
Yet, the system didn’t respond. He knew that system 009 had to shut down due to its well-protected firewall to prevent the tower system’s interference.
He shook his head in awe and looked at a bleeding hero on the verge of her death. Viktor cast an ice spear spell at the angry monster bull to calm down the occurrence going down there. He approached the saint and pulled the dead bull’s horn out of her stomach.
Akira was terrified by the scene so he yelled at Viktor. "Where have you been!!! Isn’t it your job to protect us from any harm?"
He knew Viktor was going to a secret mission given by the guild but since he was already there, he could’ve stopped the bull from approaching her. Instead, he saw the whole thing and did nothing.
Viktor leaned to the half-dead saint and tried to cast healing magic. The warm green hue covered her whole body and slowly, her grave would start to close.
She quickly became healthy as a horse but deep inside, Viktor knew what he did.
He intentionally scratched her soul and left the system to take care of the rest.
Akira’s eyes became bright as he saw the saint again stand on her feet and talk. He was ashamed of his harsh behaviour so his pale face became red. He was embarrassed.
Viktor smiled a little and looked behind at the group of heroes who were happy about his act. They now all trusted Viktor and for that, his tower system finally decided to evaluate his achievements.
*Congratulations on cleaning the side quest. Your rewards will be gifted after the system finalizes the experience points.*
Viktor gulped his grin deep in his guts and kept a smile on his face to act like the hero of the day who saved a dying saint.
He then stood up and helped the saint. "There you go, my lady. How do you feel?"
Since her system wasn’t working properly due to the system backlash, her soul was injured. Viktor took the chance and got on her good side finally by pushing her to the edge. Her hand was trembling but when she thought it was Viktor who saved her, she had no choice but to rely on him.
She finally realized Viktor wasn’t a bad guy.
"I..I am fine..thank you so much for saving me.."
He tilted his head a little to his right and kept his smiling face. "Don’t worry about that. As your teacher, it’s my job to save the heroes. Well then, I am getting late for my job. See you guys tomorrow."
He quickly vanished and used invisibility to go where he was previously sitting and reading his books. He had lots to read because, in just a few weeks, billions had died and been born. He had to finish reading their records to find out if someone had their memories of their previous life or not. Or course, it was his job after all as a demigod.
.....
.....
A week had passed after the midnight incident. As planned, they became level 80 after completing the hardest dungeon on Romos. The empire quickly became aware of their achievement and celebrated their coming back to the capital city. They became the centre of all attention and Viktor on the otherhand became speechless by someone’s arrival.
Just like any other day when he wakes up from his sleep and sees a bunch of maids walking here and there to prepare his bath, he sees a beautiful man with golden locks and bright golden eyes. His nails were shining golden and he was wearing a white butler uniform.
He stood there and greeted Viktor by bowing a little.
"Good morning, Lord Viktor. It’s a great morning where suns shines the brightest."
It was Yir, the archangel from Helsia, Adonis’s servant.
He rubbed his eyes and again looked at the man to see if he was hallucinating or not. But unfortunately, he wasn’t. It was actually Yir who was standing in front of him.
*Sigh*
"What are you doing here?"
"Lord Adonis sent me to aid you. Also, I have a box to deliver. It was sent from the highest realm of gods. The sender is Lord Lucifer. He also sent you a letter of appreciation."
"So he finally decided to agree with the deal. But let me ask you a question. How did you manage to get inside Erok? I am sure it’s under the system surveillance."
"He told me to follow your Qi. It wasn’t easy but somehow, I was able to enter by making my existence as a spirit. Spirit can’t be detected as an individual."
"I see. How is Adonis doing?"
"He is currently breaking through his 3rd stage. He is also making plans with Lord Kobayashi and discussing Name God’s goal."
Viktor rubbed his chin for some moment and then replied, "I see. Good. Oh, what about Mors and Ifrit?"
"They are training. I am sure they will break through their stages soon."
Viktor’s body fell on the soft bed and he looked at the ceiling. He knew breaking through the stage is something a demigod can do in 1000 years so Adonis was a rare genius. That’s why Kobayashi decided to work with him and help him.
A smile appeared on Viktor’s face after he thought about how long it would take him to become a god. 10 years? 20 years? Even if it takes 100 years, he would still be acknowledged as the greatest talent in the realm of gods.
"Lord Viktor, may I take out the box I am supposed to deliver?"
"No, it would get deleted by the system. Put your hand in my dimension pocket and put it inside."
Viktor drew a mana circle near Yir and soon, the mana circle turned into a dimension pocket. He then put the box on a flat surface and pulled his hand out.
Yir then looked at Viktor and said, "You’re playing the role of the demon king here, I presume. How is the progress?"
"So you knew, huh. I was scammed by system 009 and brought here. Although my plants failed terribly, I somehow managed to secure my life. Tsk... that dungeon god is sure tricky."
Viktor again asked, "Yir, did you just knock out all the maids in this palace?"
"Yes, you were sleeping peacefully so I knocked them out cold. A Lord should sleep as long as he wishes. He should not be tied to a mortal schedule."
*Sigh*
Viktor again sighed and looked at the clock. It was past 10 am.
"Hah... Yir. Cancel your magic. Or else, it will become troublesome."
"Understood, my Lord."
Viktor stood up and opened the door to the balcony. He walked to its edge and saw the servants were on the ground unconscious. Soon, the magic spell wore off and slowly, they woke up one by one confused. Some of them were in a state of trauma because they were demons and holy magic was harmful to them. Their body was severely injured but it wasn’t like anyone could see it. They were invisible but they were really painful.
The emperor also had to call an emergency meeting for the sudden, unknown and unfamiliar incident that happened in the morning. Of course, Viktor was also present and he blamed it on the system of heroes.
They had to agree with him because they found no trace of any drug, or poison in their food or air, no sleeping magic spell, no nothing. They had to close the case ’Unsolved’.
*Sigh....*
Viktor glared at Yir who was walking beside him by wearing invisibility to avoid eye contact with any mortal. "I’m sorry, my Lord. I didn’t think this would happen. I won’t cause any more trouble. Please forgive me."
"It’s the 5th time you’re apologizing. Will you stop now? If you say that again, I will revoke your forgiveness. Understand?"
"Y..yes.. my Lord. But where are you heading to? Breakfast, perhaps?"
"No. I am not hungry. Just walking around. Unfortunately, for the lack of physical exercise, this body of mine has gained weight. I can feel a lump of fat sticking to my stomach. Can you believe it?"
"I am sorry for your unfortunate gain, my Lord. Shall I give you some advice? It may help you lose some weight and increase strength."
"Yea, no. I am fine being lazy. I don’t want to work out. Let’s go outside. I don’t have any lectures today so I will go and check the guild quest. Something interesting came up."
"As you wish, my lord."
....
....
Black Guild, Branch Section, Orpas, Romos.
Just like any other day, the guild was busy, filled with adventurers as always. The quest board was also filled with various quests from top to bottom.
To get the quest of the adventurers’ choice, they were all gathering up to choose what they wanted. But something was different. A red-coloured quest showed up with a rank SS+, reward 1M gold.
Everyone was staring at the golden seal of the emperor who personally requested the quest. The red paper had a painting of a fire dragon who was listed as level 90.
But there was nobody who stepped in front to accept the quest. Why? Because nobody can actually reach level 70 before they turn 50 or 60 but by that time, all the high-ranking adventurers retire.
So there was nobody who was actually on level 80, let alone 90 and thinking about taking the quest.
But there was a group of adventurers who were interested in taking the quest. It was, of course, the hero party.
After taking off his silver helmet, he approached the quest board and pulled the quest paper from it. He then walked near the receptionist ignoring all the murmurs around him with a smile on his face.
"Excuse me, we would like to take this quest."
"Huh?? Rank S? Hero Akira!!! Oh my god!!!"
From the upstairs cafeteria area, Viktor took a sip of his morning coffee and crossed his legs to rest a bit. He then leaned against the chair and said, "Yir, they are the heroes whom I’m supposed to kill. Isn’t it fun to mess around with their mind? The system also likes playing with the human mind."
"If I was the old Yir now, I’d already declare war with you because what you are doing is a sin. But now, I feel like my inner demon has awakened. Yes, it is indeed fun to play with the human mind and control them like a chess piece. I can’t wait to see what kind of reaction they’d make if they find out you are the demon lord..."
"Heheh... but I don’t actually care though. I can save my life by killing them and that’s all. It’s not like they are going to evaporate."
Yir choked on his coffee and said, "Evaporate? My Lord, what are you even saying?"
"Hahahahah!! Nothing.."
