Chapter 232: A tail

After the sun came up, Viktor took a refreshing bath in the inn bathroom. His breakfast was served by the inn worker as soon as he went to the diner section. As usual, the inn was nearly empty because of its location.

A small girl dressed in a maid’s uniform approached Viktor with a mug of water and called the guest’s name, "Sir North, here is your water. Enjoy your meal."

Viktor looked at the small girl who rushed inside the kitchen with a faint smile on the corner of his lips. He then muttered under his voice, ’Cute but already a hard worker at this age. She will look after the inn when she grows up for sure.’

Somehow, a person sitting next to him heard that he was just a customer. The inn was empty but some seats of the diner were occupied with two to three people.

The person who was sitting next to him finished his breakfast and said, "Her name is Mary, an adopted child of the inn owner. Her mother was a regular customer of this inn and she was an adventurer. One day, she left her kid here to hunt monsters just like other days and came back as a corpse the next day.

That kid was so shocked that she forgot how to smile. But she is a brave kid. To pay for her staying in this inn, she works as a cleaner."

Viktor put an apple slice in his mouth and turned his gaze to the man who talked. The man saw his extraordinary silver eyes and somehow it rang his inner alchemist mind saying that he should collect those.

Viktor did a full body scan of that man and said, "You’re quite familiar with them I assume. Are you perhaps a regular?"

"Ahem.. yes. I am a regular here. Nice to meet you. I am Kenno, an alchemist."

Viktor shook his hand with him and said, "I am Viktor E. North, a professor at Syford Academy."

"Oh, a professor. It’s rare to see a fellow noble in a rundown place like this."

"Oh no. I am from a fallen noble family. You don’t have to be so formal in front of me. Please be at ease."

Viktor then looked at the girl coming out of the kitchen with a tray of food. She quickly served the food to the other consumer and prepared the bill without any fault.

"She’s a bright kid. But unfortunately, she doesn’t have much time to live."

The middle-aged man frowned and a wave of wrinkles formed on his forehead. "What do you mean she won’t live long?"

Viktor looked at the remaining breakfast on his plate and said, "Did you notice those dark spots on her body? They are early symptoms of ’Pregueleucus’. Soon, those small dark spots will spread all over her body, causing her mana vines to disturb from circulating mana in her body. She roughly has about 4 or 5 years to live."

"Pregueleucus? You mean the diseases that are caused by irregular mana flow in one’s body?"

Viktor was a bit surprised by hearing from his mouth so he said, "Oh, you’re well aware of this rare disease. Are you a healer?"

"Yes, I was a healer but my powers aren’t enough to heal a person so I decided to become an alchemist. But let me ask you a question about Pregueleucus. There are dozens of diseases that have the exact same symptoms. So how did you know that she’s suffering from that?"

Viktor looked at the kid and thought, ’It’s simple. I’m a demigod who has studied records of many demigods who were experts in this field. There are no diseases that exist in the universe that I’m not aware of. There are only two diseases that can’t be cured.

Dying from old age and reverse mana curse, self curse.

Of course, this only exists in the mortal realm and since the demigods and gods are immortals, no disease can touch them.’

Self-curse is a taboo that allows one to commit suicide by stopping his heart with the help of mana. It’s a type of suicide which was popular back in that time when people used to use black magic to rule. Since dead bodies were a great source of material for black magic practice, nearly all old people used to curse themselves to stop some psychopaths from using their bodies. They used to choose their death just to prevent their body from being used as black magic practice material. Of course, those who used this curse upon themselves were never able to get out of hell because suicide is ’Taboo’ ’An Unforgivable Sin’ which can never be erased from one’s record.

A reverse mana curse is a technique that allows one to destroy its own body and soul. It’s the same curse that Adonis used after he annihilated his kingdom’s people and his father.

It’s the most painful curse and there’s no going back unless a mortal is performing a taboo healing on him.

But Viktor had become a demigod without facing the god of judgement so technically, all of his sins were washed away during his naming ceremony. He was reborn as a pure demigod after he came out of the hell water bath.

Viktor looked at the child who was randomly itching her body.

’The reason why I am so sure about her death is because I can see her book half red and it’s slowly trying full red. Her disease is slowly killing her.’

He then cleared his throat and said, "I can feel she doesn’t have good mana veins. And her eyes are red. She also has itchy skin which I noticed earlier. She’s constantly itching her dark spots which is making them worse. What an unlucky kid."

The man was left speechless because there was no cure for her disease. But there was a treatment that could slow her disease from spreading but the cost was expensive.

For a kid like her, earning that amount of money was impossible.

Viktor then finished his meal and said, "Thank you for accompanying me during my mealtime, Kanno. It was nice to meet you. Let’s have a drink together if our fate connects us again in the future. I have to take my leave now."

Kanno stood up and offered another handshake. "It was great to meet you too, North. Let’s meet again if our fate wishes."

Viktor turned his gaze to the door and smirked a little while leaving the inn. He knew nothing about that man was ordinary so he did a little background check in his record and found out he was a spy sent by the saint.

He then sent a telepathic message to Radium, ’Are you still researching the data I gave you?’

His earpiece buried deep inside his ear rang after he asked it. *Yes, MASTER. I am almost done analysing the basics of this new system. Although its malware is surely annoying, Uranium is helping me to erase them so we can (learn) it without any issues. I might suggest giving us a small piece of your (active system) after we are done analysing it. This might help us to create a safer path for you to reach the core.*

Viktor rubbed his chin while thinking about something and said, "Just path huh? Not a key."

*A key?* Uranium asked through the earpiece.

"Nothing. Just do what you’re told."

*Yes, MASTER *

Viktor sighed and looked at the long path ahead of him. He sensed those tails who were following him but unfortunately, they didn’t stop him from using teleportation magic. He just suddenly became invisible and reached the academy in no time.

Why did he use teleportation magic? Because there was no way he was willing to walk 2 miles.

Azazel’s POV:

I still remember the day when Keya brought me to the realm of demons. I had imagined what the demon realm would look like but when I stepped outside the gate, my eyes couldn’t believe what was in front of me.

The sky was deep blue, bluer than the sky of the mainland. The trees were gigantic and so many mythical creatures were roaming around carefree.

The water of the river was so clear that I even noticed some valuable crystals on its bottom. But nobody seemed to care so I assumed they must’ve no value in this world at all.

After walking for 5 minutes through the stone paved path between the forest, we reached the end of the road where a carriage with no horse was waiting in front of us.

The carriage looked low because its wheels were small, black and it looked like it had air inside of them. The driver of the carriage was waiting inside it in a black suit instead of sitting outside.

The carriage looked shiny, smooth and mirror polished that it was reflecting my image on it.

Then I saw the door of the carriage automatically open which was somehow able to catch me off guard by surprise.

Keya smiled and said, "My Lord, please get in."

’Ah, I was welcomed by a blow of cold comforting air when I went inside. Then I realised why my Lord told me to protect the demon realm from human invasion. They are greedy and will wage war for the demon realm’s technology. If a simple carriage is this advanced, I can’t imagine what other things are waiting to surprise me. I will do everything to protect the demon realm even if it means to kill every human on the mainland. But for now, let’s just enjoy this heavenly air and wait until I meet the king. I am sure the whole demon realm is aware of my arrival by now.’
