Chapter 162: A test of loyalty
Chapter 162: A test of loyalty
"I would have been a terrible ruler."
Oberon sighed, "You have said so, and I believe so."
He arched his shoulders, "It was supposed to be mine. That throne belongs to me!"
"Then why did you not prove yourself trustworthy to your father?"
Aegis heaved, "Well.. I.."
"He killed someone. That is it," Faunana chipped in unfazed.
"Faunana!" The rest shouted at him.
He shrugged, "What? It is not as if he was going to say it," he looked away.
Oberon arched his brow, "Why would you do that?"
He looked away, and sighed, "I.. do not have to explain this to you," he tried to keep a cold expression, but his tears threatening to fall failed him.
"Should I say it?" Faunana grinned slightly.
The rest of the guards threw him an annoyed look.
He shrugged.
Oberon looked at him, "Yes, tell me. I am curious."
"The wolf had killed his mate, and took her wolf, only the moon goodness knows what he did with it. Since then, he had been a hell of a Lycan."
He arched his brow, and faced Aegis who looked away in embarrassment, his cheeks burning red with rage, "I swear I will kill you Faunana," he clenched his fists, "You know too much."
"Hehe."
Oberon’s eyes softened, ’He killed for the one he loved. That explains his ruthlessness.’
"I.. am sorry Aegis. Why did you not explain to your father?"
"There is nothing there to explain," Faunana chipped in, "That shows he would kill anyone at the slightest wrong done to him, which is true by the way."
Oberon’s lips turned downwards, "Oh, that is true," he scratched his neck.
"So bad."
"Ugh, I do not need your sympathy," Aegis snapped, "Why am I even talking with you? I should get out of here," he straightened his head, and attempted to walk out of the door.
"You are not going anywhere," Oberon gripped his hand, "I am not letting you go just like that."
"Respect your father’s brother!"
"You killed him," he replied.
Aegis scoffed, "Ugh. Whatever."
"That does not mean anything to you, does it?"
He looked away, "What should it mean to me? He stole my birthright, and it was right he deserved it."
Oberon felt disgusted by his words. Just a few seconds ago, he was feeling pity for him, but he wasn’t even remorseful.
"It would make a lot of sense if I just mangled you," Oberon intoned.
Aegis rolled his eyes, "Hmph, I would watch you try," he shrugged, with a careless look in his eyes.
"Well guess what? I am not an Alpha anymore. I am a Lycan. I have always been one," he smirked, and caressed his extended claws.
"Hoho, what are you going to do to me? Slit my throat like the way you slit Nox’s throat open?"
"Oh no no, I do not have to do. I know one of your weakness, and could hold you captive with it," he patted his shoulder.
"Get your hands off me," Aegis silently told him.
"Not until I do this," he dived his claws into Aegis’s chest. There were loud gasps.
Aegis was paralyzed for a moment, his eyes popping out of their sockets. Blood seeped from his chest, until it turned to a flow.
He brought his hand out, but he didn’t take his heart out.
"Let me spare you some more days here, slow torture would be better," he grinned wickedly.
Aegis held his chest, and looked at it filled with a lot of blood. His knees grew weaker, and he fell on his knees.
Aegis’s guards watched him writhe in pain.
"Ho.. have mercy on him! You can not kill him!" Kaid screamed in terror, his eyes widening.
Oberon looked at him, "Do not worry, his heart is still with him, but I inflicted serious injuries on him so he will not be able to heal for a while," he laughed.
"You think it is funny?" Boris finally spoke up, "That could kill him!"
"That is the point," Oberon replied calmly.
"Now, how would your blood taste?" He stared at his claws dripping with blood.
The guards all looked at him with disbelief on their faces, their eyes twitching.
"You.. you.. can not do that again! You are not a vampire!" Farkas shook his head
Oberon turned to face him, "Hm, you do eat the heart of prey with blood in it? So why can I not do as I please? It is not as if I ate him," he shook his head.
He walked Farkas, and wiped his claws carefully off his bare skin.
"There, that is perfect," he snickered.
Farkas growled at him.
"It was all fun when you sabotaged me, and had me thrown in duegon right? Well, how does it feel now?"
"Oh, we were just following Aegis’s orders, and Risa’s plan," Faunana chipped in again.
"Oh yes, Risa was a part of it," Oberon held his chin.
"So? It is not as if we," he said referring to the himself, and the rest of the guards, "wanted the throne. He was the only one who wanted it," he pointed at Aegis.
Oberon turned to look at Aegis. He lay on the floor, trying to catch his breath. His cheeks were already hot, and his eyes were wider than a krater bowl.
Oberon stared at him for a while, "You do look helpless. You once made my mother helpless, so did you make me helpless too," he bent down to reach his body on the floor.
"How about we stay here, and just enjoy the scene?" He looked at the rest of them with a smug smile.
"Help him!" Kaid cried.
Oberon faked a pout, "Aww, someone who cares. You should join him too," his eyes lit up.
"What? No! No way! What did I do?" Kaid raised his knees in an attempt to block his face and neck from any attack.
He faced Aegis again, and whispered in his ears, "It seems you have no loyal guards after all. Oh, poor you."
Aegis managed to look at him, blood smeared all over his hands, and a little on his cheeks. He tried to speak, but the pain was too excruciating for him.
"Okay, okay, I know what I will do. Someone volunteer to take his place, and I will heal him."
