Chapter 152: She asks for help

The dry leaves rustled softly as she stepped on them. She made her way through the long, thick bushes, her garments fighting a war with that undergrowth.

She wore a hoodie over her face, she did not want anybody to recognize her, and she would make her journey in peace.

The house was just a few meters away, so she hastened get steps. She wanted to see her son again, it had been close to three weeks, and she had not set her eyes on him.

She got to the door, and knocked softly, impatiently waiting for someone to come get the door.

The door opened, revealing him. He was three feet, mine inches, way below her. His golden hair was unmistakable as it glowed softly in the dusk. He looked up at her with his grey eyes, "Mother!"

Her eyes watered, she spread her arms wide open, and he jumped into it.

"Archi," she wrapped him tightly in her arms, her eyes tearing up. She had missed him badly.

"Mother! You came back!"

She chuckled, "I came back to see you. I missed you so much," she said softly.

"Let me go tell grandma and the others!" He ran to the back of the house.

She darted her eyes around, patiently waiting for them to return.

A burst of laughter echoed in the distance, breaking through her thoughts. Nyx turned swiftly, and her heart leapt when she saw Dora sprinting towards her, Archi trailing behind with his small legs struggling to keep up.

Dora’s eyes were wide and sparkling, her face flushed with joy as she called out."Nyx! You came back!" Dora exclaimed, her voice filled with a mix of disbelief and elation.

She threw her arms around Nyx, pulling her into a tight embrace that spoke of how deeply she had missed her. Nyx chuckled softly, feeling the warmth of Dora’s embrace and the genuine happiness radiating from her."Yes, I have come back to see you all," Nyx replied, her voice tender as she gently patted Dora’s back.

"I have missed you so much." Archi, watching the reunion with wide, gleaming eyes, clapped his hands excitedly.

"We missed you too, Mother!" he chimed in, his small voice carrying a tone of earnestness that made Nyx’s heart swell.

She knelt down, pulling Archi into her arms, feeling the familiar weight of him that she had longed to hold, "My sweet boy," Nyx muttered softly, kissing the top of his head.

"I have missed you every day. You would not believe how much."

Elena, who had been standing a little way off, slowly approached, her steps hesitant at first but quickening as she got closer.

Her expression softened when she finally met Nyx’s gaze. "Nyx! Oh dear, you really came back!" Elena’s voice quivered slightly, her eyes twinkling with a lot of emotions.

"It is a good thing to have you back again. How long will you be staying?"

Nyx shook her head, "No, I am not staying here. I came here first, because I wanted to see you all, secondly, I would want to talk with Oberon. Where is he?"

"Right here," she heard him saying. She turned her head, and looked in his direction.

"Oh, Oberon," she whispered.

He flashed her a smile, "You came back!"

"Yes, yes, I did," she rolled her eyes.

"Can we go inside? I can not stand here for a long time please."

"Oh let us go inside," Archi held her hand, and led her inside.

He led her to the living room, "come sit," he made her sit down.

She kissed his cheeks, "Thank you my baby boy," she caressed his hair.

Dora followed behind holding Elena’s hand.

Oberon was the last to enter the room, walking slowly behind all of them. He paused at the doorway, observing the scene before him. Nyx sat on the couch, her posture brimming with confidence. She was quite composed, and didn’t seem to worry about anything at that particular moment. Dora and Archi flanked her on either side, their small hands clasped in hers, as if holding her would anchor them all. Archi’s head rested on her shoulder, his eyes half-closed in the comfort of having his mother near.

Elena and Oberon took their seats across from Nyx, a mix of curiosity and relief etched on their faces. Elena was the first to speak, her voice warm but laced with surprise. "Welcome back, Nyx. We are really surprised you came back this early," Elena said with a soft smile, her eyes searching Nyx’s face for any hint of what had brought her back so soon.

Nyx shrugged, her expression a blend of determination and weariness. "I just had to. I have not seen my son in weeks, and I really did miss him. Plus, I need to talk with Oberon," she said, her gaze shifting to meet his. "So yes, I had to come back."

Oberon leaned back slightly, crossing his arms over his chest as he studied her. "So, what do you want to talk about?" he asked, his tone steady but with a hint of apprehension. He had not expected Nyx to return so soon, and her sudden appearance had stirred up a lot of emotions, he was trying to hide.

Nyx sighed, glancing briefly at the Archi beside her before meeting Oberon’s gaze. "Well... it would be nice if you could help me with what I am doing back there in the palace," she said, her voice carrying the weight of unspoken struggles. "I do not think I can handle all of what I intend to do on my own."

Oberon exchanged a quick glance with Elena, both of them silently processing Nyx’s request. It was not like her to admit she needed help, and that alone told them how serious the situation must be. Elena’s brow furrowed slightly, her concern deepening as she turned her attention back to Nyx.

"What do you need help with?" Oberon asked, his voice steady but edged with concern. He could see the determination in Nyx’s eyes, but also the fatigue that had settled beneath her usual resolve. He knew that whatever she was facing, it was not something she would take lightly.

Nyx hesitated for a moment, as if weighing her words carefully. "There is more going on in the palace than I initially thought. Aegis is... he is becoming more unpredictable, and I am worried about what he might do next. I am trying to gain his trust, but I do not think I can do it alone," she admitted, her voice low and tinged with frustration. "He is suspicious of everyone, and I am constantly walking on eggshells. I need someone who understands what we are dealing with, someone who can help me navigate this without setting off any alarms."

Oberon’s expression hardened slightly at the mention of Aegis. He had not forgotten the threats that loomed over their family, nor the danger that came with being involved in palace affairs. But he also saw the plea in Nyx’s eyes, the silent ask for support that she rarely voiced. He glanced at Elena once more, and she gave a small nod, her silent way of urging him to listen and consider.

"I will help you, Nyx," Oberon said finally, his voice firm. "But you have to be honest with me about everything that is going on. No holding back, no trying to shield me from the truth. If we are going to do this, we do it together, fully."

Nyx nodded, relief flickering in her eyes. "Agreed. I will not hide anything from you," she promised. "I just need to know that I am not alone in this, that I have someone I can count on."

"You do," Oberon replied, leaning forward with a resolute look. "We are in this together, Nyx. No matter what."

She smiled, relief washed over her face.

"I know I am doing a lot of things back there, I might be somehow in control there, but I still feel I would need some help."

"Would it be fine if we came along too?" Dora asked.

She sighed, "I wish so, but I do not want to put you in any kind of harm. With just me at the forefront, everything will be fine. Even Oberon will not work from the surface."

"Wait.. huh?" He arched his brow.

"Yes, I am not risking anyone’s life for this. You will only work undercover. Aegis is still after you. At least I have earned his trust to an extent."

"So?"

"I do not want to explain please, just please help me. That is all."

Dora looked at her, "Wait.. why? It is not as if he is not willing to die for you," she faced him, with squinted eyes.

He sighed, and held his head.

"I have a plan in mind, and I would need your help Oberon. This time I really, really need your help."

He arched his brows, "Okay? What is it?"
