Chapter 76: Princess Jade!
Chapter 76: Princess Jade!
Noah POV
My blood boiled with rage at Brooke’s outrageous demand. The audacity for her to look me right in the face and demand to come back into my life and not just that, asking that I make her my mistress.
"You must be delusional, Brooke and fucking bold to think I would ever entertain that idea," I growled with annoyance "I am a mated, married man whose loyalty belongs solely to my wife, Selene,".
"Oh please," she rolled her eyes dramatically "You and I know that we still have chemistry and what is this that I hear about Selene’s ex-husband being around plus how she doesn’t love you the way you do her? Sure, you can play the dutiful husband; charming, protective... but how long would you keep hiding Selene so she doesn’t meet up with her Ex? Isn’t it too stressful? Between us, we both know you crave something..." She paused and whispered the last word "More,".
Continuing, I watched helplessly, feeling Rio jump with delight as she slowly rolled her tongue across her full lips. "I’m offering you a way out. With me by your side, I promise, Princess Jade would be a forgotten matter. I have what it takes to get her off your back completely,".
I slammed my fist down on the desk, making Brooke jump. My eyes flashed with anger as I tried not to reach for her neck and pin her to the wall.
"How dare you disrespect, my wife and queen with such wicked insinuations and suggestions. Selene is my better half, my heart, my everything. I’d never so much as entertain the idea of betraying her,".
"Yet you cannot tell her about Princess Jade," She mocked "If you love her so much and you have such a great bond, what’s stopping you from telling her that you’ll be bringing in another woman soon? Are you scared that your precious mate bond will be severed?"
I rose from my chair, using every ounce of willpower to keep myself from laying hands on Brooke. When I spoke again, I could hardly recognize my voice. It was low and you could tell I was trying to control the anger I felt.
"I don’t know what is giving you the boldness that you’re currently displaying but don’t forget I am the king around here. So, that nonsense ends here and now. You will tell me everything you know about Princess Jade and in exchange, I’ll..."
Brooke threw her head backwards as her body shook with laughter. When she was spent, she dabbed at the corners of her eyes as she looked at me.
"You don’t scare me, Noah," she said confidently. "I respect you as the Lycan King and I am a law-abiding pack member of Moon Whisper but you don’t scare me. We’ve fucked in all the places imaginable and unimaginable to the human mind. We’ve come so close to getting married, everyone knows that we were the best pair ever, so why do you think I should fear you?"
"Don’t you dare!" I screeched but she walked up to me and stood in my face. Most Lycan women were tall, so she easily matched my height and what she couldn’t make up for her height, the heels she had on sufficed.
"Or else what?" she retorted "Are you going to banish me from the pack? When are you going to admit that you’re still fucking attracted to me," To prove her point, her hands suddenly grabbed my straining bulge making my face drained of colour "Rio – your wolf has been going crazy all day and you want to deny yourself because of loyalty... that’s a laugh!"
Thankfully, I regained my senses and quickly moved away from her hands "You know what, Brooke... I don’t need your help," I said with a grim resolved "Get out of my sight this moment, take your secrets and go before I do something that we would both regret,".
"You’re making a terrible mistake, Noah," she said with a smile "You don’t fully understand the extent to which Jade can go for something to become hers. You have no idea because if you do, you won’t be saying No to my offer. Once you agree, I reveal a terrible secret about her that no one knows except me,".
"I am not interested, just get lost!" I snapped.
She opened her mouth to protest but seemed to think better of it at the last moment. With as much dignity as she could muster, she turned on her heels and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.
Finally, alone, I sank back into the chair feeling drained. I cradled my head in my hands, trying to push down on the emotions that seemed to want to overwhelm me.
I brought out my phone and scrolled through my contacts, stopping when I got to the Lycan King of the West. I wanted to call him and ask him to rescind the proposal but I knew if I had an opportunity to talk to him, my anger would get the best of me.
And I feared losing a crucial alliance of my pack because of this marriage. Situations like this in the past always sparked feuds and conflicts that would lead to a bloody war so I wanted to be careful.
My plan B was Xavier.
He had what I was looking for but with the situation going on with Selene, I was having double minds about him agreeing to me.
Coupled with my strained relationship with Selene these days. If she knew of this... if she gets to find out, I could picture the disappointment and the hurt on her beautiful face. I’ll be no different from Xavier and I cannot afford to hurt her like that. I hated to even put her in a position where she cries.
"Maybe I should tell her," I told Rio – my wolf. "I shouldn’t allow secrets and schemes like this to ruin the little trust she had in me. She is my wife, my mate and deserves to know everything.
Drawing a deep breath, I pushed myself up and headed to Selene’s room. It would be better to air this out into the open now and face the consequences as partners than allow it to evolve into webs of lies and deceit later on.
As I stepped into the compound and headed to Selene’s quarters, Reid rushed over to me panting. He looked distraught.
My heart sank as I saw him, I didn’t need to be told that this was bad news.
"What’s wrong?" I asked as he stopped to catch his breath.
"I just received words from our contacts in the hotel and they say Princess Jade is missing,".
My head exploded as I stared at Reid hoping he would laugh and say he was joking. This was enough ground for the King of the West to bring war to us and I didn’t want that. I couldn’t afford to fight now.
However, my mind immediately went to the worst-case scenario and the only person I could think of being behind her getting missing was Brooke. Aside from the palace officials and a few close Elders and maybe the hotel staff, no one knew Jade was in Moon Whisper already.
"What do you mean she’s missing?" I scoffed controlling the rage burning inside me "When last was she seen? Didn’t I request particularly that eyes should be kept on her 24/7? Who were on shift when she went missing? Has search parties been sent out at least?"
Reid held up his hands in a placating gesture "Easy, your majesty, this is no time to panic. We are trying our best to calm her entourage that she came with and make sure none of them can contact their Lycan king yet. Our search parties are trying to look for her as we speak,".
"Fuck!" I groaned running a hand through my hair "You all had one job to do... One fucking job to do and you messed up. I run the pack, do all the strenuous work coupled with the stress and pressure I’ve been under off late. Can’t anyone do anything around here?"
"I’m sorry, your majesty," Reid bowed his head in remorse "We’ll find her,".
"The fuck you will," I growled "I give you from now until sun down to find her or else..." I trailed off "I don’t know what I am going to do to you but I swear to the moon, Reid... everyone is going to feel the heat,".
"Yes, your majesty!" He bowed in acknowledgement.
"Before that, ask Brooke to meet me in the queen’s quarters, I have to ask her something," I instructed.
"May I ask why you’re going to the Queen’s quarters?"
"Since when do I get questioned for going to visit my wife?" I glared at him.
"Except you’re not going to visit her, Noah," Reid sighed "You want to let her know everything that’s going on?" he asked with disbelief in his voice.
"What would you have me do Reid?" I said through gritted teeth "You think I enjoy playing this sick game. The earlier we let her know the better it’ll be for me to stop being fearful that she’s going to find out in the wrong way. I am tired of hiding,".
Before Reid could protest, I brushed past him and started for Selene’s corridor with my heart hammering violently in my chest. I was scared at what will be the outcome of informing Selene about everything and I was also worried about Princess Jade. If they didn’t find her, we would start preparing for war.
The maids and guards I had stationed in front of Selene’s room bowed in reverence when I arrived and I waved them to leave. Satisfied that it’ll just be I and Selene, I threw open the door.
I stopped in my tracks as I see Selene and another woman in the middle of the room, laughing over something that they must have said and that woman was...
