Noah POV

"Princess?"

Relief coursed through me as I slammed the door, and walked into the room.

"Your majesty," She rose to her feet and gave a small bow in my direction "I didn’t know you’d recognize me without my royal attire. Welcome,".

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Selene looking at us with curiosity and maybe confusion. It could only mean one thing, that she isn’t aware of who Jade truly is.

"Are you alright dear?" I turned to Selene.

"I am fine," she answered coldly "Why are you here?"

"I came to see you, silly," I chuckled "Didn’t expect that I’ll find you with a visitor. Princess Jade, are you aware that you got everyone worried? We’ve sent soldiers to look for you all over the place, cannot believe you were right under our noses,".

"You call should take a break, I just wanted one day without being a princess, is that too much to ask?"

"But you would have informed someone that you’re taking a break from being a princess," I tried to reign in my fury. In three strides, I crossed the space to where she was, easily towering over her "Do you have any idea the panic you have caused? What if someone had reported your disappearance to your father? Things like this cause war, in case you don’t know,".

She flinched and took a step backwards casting a pleading look Selene’s way "I only wanted to go for a walk to clear my head and somehow ended here. It wasn’t my intention to make anyone worry,".

"Well, we all got worried," I hissed and paused to mind link Reid informing him that I’d seen the princess and she was with Selene.

"Besides, all these wouldn’t have happened if we had finalized everything regarding the purpose of my visit. You’ve ignored me since I arrived, sent back all my messengers with cryptic messages, and asked your Beta to come see me rather than coming yourself. What’s more, do you think I can’t do anything? I’ve only held back so far because I was trying to respect you,".

"Respect me?" I barked out a harsh laugh "Is this what you call respect? Showing up to the pack house without an invitation, coming here despite my repeated refusal of the proposal. What were you expecting? For me to grovel at your feet? I made it clear to your father that I wasn’t interested but still you come from the West to this place like a shameless whore,".

"Noah!" Selene’s sharp rebuke cut through my building rage. Turning to face her, there was a mixture of shock and reproach on her face "What are you doing? Why are you insulting our guest? That was uncalled for. You could easily state your grievance without resorting to insults,".

"Stay out of this, Selene... You do not know half of what is going on," I gritted my teeth "This so-called guest is trying to cause a rift between two peace-loving nations with her stupid demands,".

Jade sighed, a small smile on her face "You don’t understand, your majesty," she said coyly "I am the princess and I always get what I want. But it seems your dear queen here has no idea what is going on?"

"Don’t you dare!" I flared.

"What is going on?" Selene asked looking from me to Jade.

I turned and opened my mouth to tell her; I was going to tell her right but as I stared at the innocence that floated in her eyes, I felt like fraud. At that moment, I knew if I told her the real purpose of the Princess’s visit, that it would break her heart. Especially as I’ve been keeping it away from her all this while.

"Noah!" she shifted with unease "What is going on?"

"Yes, your majesty, tell her!" Princess Jade challenged with a smirk playing on her lips.

"Stop putting words in his mouth," she glared at Jade "It means either you or Brooke lied to me," Then her gaze shifted to me "Brooke came an hour ago or two and brought her alongside saying that you requested that I keep her company until you were done with your meeting. I’m surprised with everything," she explained.

So, Brooke was behind this!

My hands curved into a fist beside me as I tried to hem in my rage. I would tell Selene... maybe another time but not just today.

"Brooke lied to you dear and I’m so sorry," I sighed "Will you forgive me?"

"You’ve done nothing wrong, dear," she looked at me doubtfully and then back at Princess Jade "Or did you?"

"No," I said hastily "You need to rest. Princess Jade why don’t you come and let take this discussion to my office, I’m sure we have a lot to talk about,".

"I was made to believe that you have a very good relationship with your wife, your majesty people say you’re love birds. Surely, we can discuss anything you want in front of her. I don’t mind,".

"Princess Jade!" I screeched "Don’t make this any harder than it should be. You’ll come with me to my office right now and not a word!"

"I don’t want to," Jade sat back on her chair reaching for her cup of tea "We should trash everything here once and for all,".

My mind was running with a thousand thoughts as I tried to gauge Jade’s intention. This was so hard for me to bear. As I opened my mouth to speak, the door swung open again and Brooke sauntered in.

I bared my teeth at her as I watched her walk up to us, a smirk playing on her lips. Her eyes widened in a mock shock when she drew closer to us.

"Alpha, I didn’t think you’d be here. I was coming to check on the Queen and the Princess but I guess..." she trailed off and let out a small laugh "This must be the most dramatic scene I’ve ever seen. From the quietness here, I guess the cat is not out of the bag yet,".

"Why did you bring her here?" I demanded glaring at her.

"Someone had to bring her sooner or later," Brooke shrugged "I allowed you to redeem yourself a while ago but in Noah’s fashion, you turned it now. Now look at the mess you’ve gotten yourself into and your queen... Poor Selene! Feels like a fool right now? Don’t you, Selene?"

Selene’s eyes narrowed dangerously "Don’t overstep your boundary, Brooke. How dare you lie against the King? You clearly said that the other had come from the King himself,".

"And so?" she shrugged "I lied but you’d be surprised at what your husband is capable of hiding when you hear it from him,".

"Brooke!" I growled, "Take Princess Jade and go wait for me in my office, both of you,".

Brooke chuckled, as her eyes flickered with amusement. She drew out the empty chair that Selene had been sitting on and settled on it.

"I think I’ll stay right here," Her gaze flickered to me tauntingly "I wouldn’t want you to have any trouble recounting the full truth?"

Rio was prancing inside me with rage. I could feel him begging for a release, one more insolent word from Brooke... and I’m not sure I would be able to hold him back.

"Alpha!" Reid’s voice sounded from outside the room.

My head whipped around as Reid burst through the doors, chest heaving like he’d run the entire way. His eyes went wild swinging between me and the women in the room in apparent shock at the scene before him.

"What is it, Reid?" I asked

Recovering from his shock, he came towards me, "We’ve just received word from the Lycan King – The Princess Father... someone told him that she was missing and he’s furious is an understatement,".

I turned and gave Jade who didn’t seem concerned a dark look before turning to Reid.

"Do you have any idea who? Didn’t I ask that you detain all the people that came with her?"

"I did," Reid sighed "I don’t know how word got out. Anyways, thank the moon she’s here, all we need is to get her talk with the King and assure him that she’s fine,".

"Me?" Jade’s voice was low and clipped "I won’t be doing any calling. Knowing who my father is, he’s probably started mobilizing the soldiers already. Who knows what will happen next,".

A cruel chuckle had us turning to Brooke who was smirking in delight as she helped herself to some of the pastries on the table.

"My, my...it seems the truth would have to slither its way out into the open at this point," Her eyes bored into mine and then she turned to Jade, smiling at her "Care to share a few details of the secret the king is desperately trying to hide. I’m tired of Selene standing like a fool,".

"Watch your words, Brooke!" Selene said quietly "And then turned to me, with a blank expression "I’ll leave you to finish up with whatever it is that is going on here. I need to go and see the girls by the way,".

She said and started heading out when Brooke’s voice reached her.

"Everyone knows, Selene... Everyone in the pack knows this truth except you. Aren’t you curious to find out?"
