Noah POV

"Oh, goddess!" Nora rushed to where Xavier was and squashed him in a hug causing him to groan out in pain.

"Mom, it’s painful!" he cried.

Immediately, Nora let him go "I’m so sorry baby. I was just so happy to see you. Are you alright? How did you come to?" her eyes flitted to Lucius who had been hovering behind Xavier silently "What happened to him Lucius? I just left there and the doctor clearly said it’ll take only an intervention from Selene,".

"Well Selene isn’t responsible for this," Lucius shrugged not before I saw him throw me a glare "He sneezed a few minutes earlier and came back to consciousness. He’s still weak though and would need Selene’s intervention else he’d remain like this but thankfully, this would be easy,".

"There’s nothing easy about giving my wife to another man, Lucius," I scoffed "Why are you making it sound so easy,".

"Your majesty!" he said coldly as he turned his gaze to me "All Selene needs to do is to lie down beside him overnight and he’ll be fine. There’ll be no intimacy shared as feared before I can assure you that and Alpha Xavier is principled so you don’t have to worry about anything,".

"That’s a relief!" Nora sighed and turned to me "This is easy right? Please approve it Noah, I beg you in the name of the moon. Please!"

Xavier too was wobbling where he stood. I could feel he was in pain. Every part of his body oozed of blood and I know for a fact that this would be a temporary recovery if nothing is done for him. In worst-case scenarios, he may slip into a situation worse than the first one he was in.

"Fine!" I sighed "You have my permission to just lie down next to it. I don’t want to hear any other story, Xavier. I don’t want to hear that your mate bond was too strong and hence..." I shuddered as images of Xavier and Selene tangled together flitted into my mind "Once it’s daylight, leave immediately. Please! I love Selene too much and I’m only doing this because of your sacrifice for us that I learnt off and it’s only fair that we reward you in some kind of way. Okay?"

"Thank you so much, your majesty!" a relieved smile spread across Xavier’s face as he lowered his head to thank me "I’m sorry for the inconvenience this would cause but I do not take it for granted and you have my word, I’ll be on my best behaviour,".

"Great!" I nodded "Also, I’d like that both of you stay in a room that’s close to mine. I’ll rest easy. Is that okay with you?"

"Certainly, your majesty!" he nodded giving me a small smile "It’s perfect,".

"Great!" I nodded "I’ll have the maids prepare the room and once it’s time they’ll come fetch you and Selene. By the way, I have a lot of things to do and if you don’t mind, I’d like to leave now," I started walking towards the door of my office when I paused and turned to them. They were all staring intently at me, so they quickly averted their gazes when they saw me. "Could you ask Kurtis to meet me in the residential quarters of the Lycan Kings?" I told Lucius.

"Okay your majesty!" he nodded and pulled out his phone. Satisfied, I walked out of my office and in the direction of the residential quarters for the Alphas. In reality, I wasn’t worried about Xavier and Selene being together. It was far from it. I was so concerned about the plans that Conrad was scheming. What was so surprising was that since our last conversation, I’ve not seen him or heard from him so... it bothered me.

Also, the meeting that he planned with the Lycan Kings had clearly stated that he wanted them to come together and discuss certain pressing needs that would need to be thrashed hence the meeting. It got me wondering what exactly he was going to say in that meeting. As I neared the quarters, I hid my scent.

Being a King of Moon Whisper and interacting with a lot of mythical creatures all over the world taught me a lot of tricks and one of them was sneaking quietly into people without them noticing. Unlike Alpha who could only pick up the scent of their mates or people bonded to them either Betas or Gammas, Lycan’s could pick up distinct scents and give them a face and they could sense it from 100m apart. But after I learnt how to hide my scent, I could creep up to anyone without them noticing.

I walked stealthily to the quarters and was about to open the gates when voices floated to me. I strained my ears trying to pick up what was being said when Conrad’s voice came loud and clear. "Aren’t you all tired of the divide that exists amongst us? To say the truth, it’s only this region that is backward in everything and that’s because we decided to do the autonomous pack ruling. Do you know what that means, that thousands of Lycan Kings are unaccounted for? They do not have to report their actions or shortcomings to someone and you’ll agree with me that we all have been abusing powers for a while now!"

"What do you mean?" One of the Lycan Kings butted in. I could sense impatience in his voice as he spoke. "Abuse powers? There was a reason why Lycans ruled by themselves. Imagine putting all of us together under one leader... It’ll be chaotic. The mere thought of it is scaring me. we have to continue in the legacy of our leaders before us and try not to overturn century-old administration so before this conversation goes further, I suggest you shut it down. It’ll not work,".

"Come on!" Conrad’s sing-song voice took on a convincing tone "I am not trying to dismantle century-old administration," he shook his head "No one here is going to be dethroned for sure. The only thing that will be added is you all would have to be accountable to someone. Someone who would be the leader of all the Lycan Packs in the entire region and I wish someday to share this knowledge with every pack far and wide,".

"Before we proceed with this meeting," a familiar voice rose to his feet to speak. It seemed it was the Lycan King from Night Fang Pack. We once met at a conference and since then, our bond has been inseparable. "Everyone is here for this meeting except Noah. Didn’t you tell him about the meeting? Or did he not receive the memo sent to all the leaders this morning?"

"Of course, he did!" Conrad lied "I made sure the messenger sent a copy personally to him. After all, he’s the host, it’ll be impolite for us to hold meetings like this without letting him know plus he is a very good friend of my brother Tanner who I am representing here today,".

"That’s another problem on its own," my Lycan friend said "Why isn’t your brother here yet? You promised that he would be joining you soon, so where is he? Why are you suddenly acting like a spokesperson for us all? You’re not even a Lycan King like the rest of us so you have no right to come up here, gather us together and start addressing us. The only reason why we haven’t had you arrested now is because of King Tanner. But come to think of it? Did he put you up to this? Doesn’t he know how treasonous this looks especially with Noah not here,".

Immediately, I opened the gate and ushered myself in. The words were barely out of the mouth of the person who was speaking when our gaze met and he lowered his. I walked in majestically ignoring the surprised looks coming from the Kings. I knew they were surprised to see me.

Conrad didn’t turn at first. But he must have noticed the other Lycan Kings staring in my direction so he turned. When he saw me, his eyes widened and nearly popped out of their sockets. He was shocked to see me.

"I’m sorry to interrupt!" I raised my hands to wave at the Kings "And I’m sorry I came late too for the meeting. Something that required my attention came up,".

"So, you’re aware of the meeting?" a Lycan King asked "Why was Conrad trying to make it seem like you didn’t want to come for the meeting?"

"Oh!" I feigned confusion "I wasn’t told of any meeting. You’d be surprised at how I found out but that’s not important now!" I said with a smile as I settled on an empty seat "I’m here now and that should count right. Can someone update me on what has been said so far?"

"Well," the Lycan King of the Night Fang Pack finally spoke up "We were talking about...".

"Don’t worry!" Conrad suddenly interrupted him "I’ll tell him myself,".
