Chapter 123: Your majesty! I’m back

Noah POV

Nothing happened.

I sat on the chair behind the big mahogany desk in my office until sun rays pierced through the morning sky blessing us with its orange rays and dispelling the last bit of the darkness that had come with the full dark moon throughout the night.

I couldn’t sleep last night... I alternated between each security station demanding an update every thirty minutes, which decreased to twenty and then to ten before finally five minutes as the night progressed. That was because I had a premonition that something would happen. I could feel it in the air and I wasn’t sure I’d be prepared.

Still, I stayed up until the first morning light streaked in through the windows. Hoisting myself from my chair, I strolled to the French window in my office and opened it, inviting the freshness that came with the breeze into the office. I should be happy that the night passed peacefully but why was I still restless?

I could still feel worry tugging at the sides of my heart. I had told myself several times yesterday that the reason why everything was calm was because of Xavier’s intervention still my heart was still not settled. Pushing away from the window, I walked to the cupboard at one corner of the office to make myself coffee wondering how Xavier was faring this morning and if he survived.

After making a cup of coffee, I went back to the window to enjoy it. As I raised the coffee mug to my lips, the door of my office was forced open and my sister Nora stalked in looking agitated. Her face was purple with rage as she marched towards me.

"Do you want my son to die? Is this your plan?" she growled "Why would you order that Selene should not go and heal him. You knew damn well that they needed each other in the first place, why did you marry her? Please" she lowered her tone "Revoke the order. He’s not going to survive if nothing is done about it, please,".

"Good morning, Nora!" I said before taking a long sip from my coffee mug "I already received a report from the hospital this morning and they said things are looking up much better than they did yesterday. I know you want faster results and I understand that but I cannot let my wife fuck your son just for him to heal? Put yourself in my shoes... how would you feel if a woman was asked to fuck your husband to heal someone else? Does it even make sense,".

"But you knew all of these, Noah!" she yelled pointing an accusing finger at me "Why are you making a fuss about it now? technically, you stole my son’s mate from him. Shouldn’t you be ashamed of yourself that you’re fighting over a woman with your nephew? She belongs to him and not you. Let her go back to her mate for Moon’s sake, Noah!" she screeched.

"First of all, your son doesn’t own her," I said coolly. "Selene is not a property to be owned. She’s a woman who’s entitled to be with any man she wants. She rejected your son and we’re madly in love with each other. By the way, don’t you hate her? Isn’t she the same girl who you said years back was below your son’s class and that the only reason why you’re going to accept their marriage was because she’s a necessity? A means to an end and nothing more. Have you forgotten?"

"And she still is," Nora hissed "The bottom line is saving Xavier. You can have her back when she’s done with my son. Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to give her back to Xavier entirely but just for a moment because I wouldn’t want my son ending up with her. She’s nothing but a two-timing...".

Nora trailed off as the words got stuck in her throat. Her face turned white as she stared in the direction of the entrance of my office. Tracing her gaze, it landed on Selene with the girls Maeve and Vina. There was a composed expression on Selene’s face and her hands were clasped firmly on the ears of the girls. From the quiet expression she had on, I knew she had heard Nora’s talk or even the entire conversation.

"S...Selene, you’re here!" Nora stuttered with a fearful smile "Hello girls, come say high to grandma!" she dropped to her knees and opened her arms wide to the girls but they didn’t budge. They kept staring at her with the same morose expression as their mother.

"Girls, go say high," Selene nudged them but Maeve ignored her mother and turned on her heels as she left the office with Vina closely behind her. When they were gone, Selene’s gaze flitted back to Nora, a smirk on her lips "It’s so pathetic that your grandchildren had to see how much you hate me. By the way, you were going to say something about me two-timing. Were you going to say I am a bitch or what’s that word that you used the last time... slut!"

"Selene!" I sighed and moved closer to her "That’s not necessary okay,".

"It is to me!" she gave me a wide grin "If you were in my shoes and this plays out, will you be motivated to take any action? How can I keep saving the same man that made my life a living hell for 7 fucking years,".

"Can you get over that already?" Nora hissed "We all know he wasn’t the best version of himself for seven years and you keep repeating yourself all the time. Fine, I didn’t like you back then but now I am beginning to warm up to you. Xavier is your fated mate, if anything should happen to him and he dies, do you think you’d be safe too?"

"I don’t have time for this, just like my husband has decreed, I am not going to go against his words not even in the slightest way. I’m sure your family can find a way around making sure he gets better just like the last time and just to clear things up, even if he should later agree I don’t think I’d be able to. I’m sorry,".

"Selene!" I sighed.

She turned her gaze to me and then said quietly "I was just coming to check on you and the girls wanted to see you too. Anyways, let’s talk later," she gave me a small smile before leaving. Finally, it was just me and Nora. I could see her eyes had gathered with tears as she watched Selene retreat.

Knowing who Selene was, a simple apology from Nora would have sufficed but my sister was as proud as a peacock and I know that much but underneath all the hard core was a kind woman who changed because of how life treated her. After birthing Xavier and all the troubles, she went through with him, she decided not to have another child.

Back when we were children, Nora had always wanted to be a mother. She used to talk about birthing a lot of children with an animated look on her face but her smile waned after she gave birth to Xavier. Her marriage wasn’t what you’d call a marriage. Even though she’s still married to Xavier’s father, the duo live like strangers.

They rarely attend functions together and Xavier’s father was always in the spotlight for one cheating scandal or the other. At that time, my father would pay heavily to keep them out of the media but he got tired eventually as the man didn’t show signs of stopping or changing. In his own words, Nora was miserable and was forcing him to go down that path with her.

I knew her withdrawal and the way she was harsh to everyone was borne out of grief and it was worse because she has refused to open up and won’t do therapy instead.

"Fine!" I sighed "I’ll ask Selene to go to him, can you stop worrying already?"

"Didn’t you hear her?" she turned to me, as a tear rolled down her cheeks and she brushed at it furiously "She said even if you give the command, she won’t do it. She wants Xavier to die. It’s all part of her revenge to him,".

"You’re getting ahead of yourself, Nora," I rolled my eyes "Remember Xavier is her children’s baby daddy, you think she’d stand and watch him die without helping? She’s angry clearly and that’s because of the way you treat her. It’s unfair in a way if you ask me. I am not asking you to get along with her...but be polite at least. For the sake of your grandkids and your son. I’ll call her now and tell her to go ahead,".

"What if she doesn’t?" Nora’s eyes danced with unbelief.

"Don’t worry, she will. I promise you and..."

A knock sounded on the door making me pause half a sentence as I twirled towards the door. The air in my lungs nearly got knocked out when I saw Xavier leaning against the door wincing in pain while trying to smile.

"Your Majesty!" he murmured lowering himself a bit "I’m back!"
