Chapter 272: Chapter 268 Collision
Whenever Anglistra encounters a dilemma, she always feels anxious to find a solution. But once she finds one and has a plan, she stops worrying and doesn’t care as much.
After dragging her feet for nearly half a month, Anglistra finally got moving and headed for the so-called Watchtower Port to have a chat with her daughter.
The Empire’s territory was far too dangerous, so she lingered near its borders, ensuring she wouldn’t easily attract the Empire’s attention while avoiding straying too far from civilization. Otherwise, what could she do—rob those Kobolds and goblins eking out a living in the wilderness? Robbing a hundred tribes wouldn’t land her even a single copper coin.
Aside from being lazy and procrastinating, one of the reasons Anglistra was reluctant to set out was that she didn’t know where Watchtower Port was.
She’d heard that Watchtower Port was south of the Lost Plateau and west of the Talia Alliance. But she hadn’t been to either the Lost Plateau or the Talia Alliance.
Getting lost wasn’t a problem for her—she just needed to find someone who knew the way. After raiding three villages, she finally found an adventurer who did. The adventurer told her that as long as she kept flying south without stopping for anything, she would eventually reach the Lost Plateau and then easily find Watchtower Port.
Salovis’s body was brimming with practical knowledge, all inherited from Anglistra.
Lady Magma Throat was not one to earn fame without merit. It took Anglistra just two days of effortless searching to find the Lost Plateau, which she then realized was an ideal place for building a nest. It was full of volcanoes, Dwarves made excellent slaves, but the giants there were rather troublesome.
Without wasting time on stopovers, Anglistra headed straight for Watchtower Port. Considering it was the territory of a Lord of Giant Dragon... her striking beauty might easily catch the lord’s attention. For now, she wasn’t interested in having kids; giving birth and raising children would only get in the way of making money and advancing her ambitions. She’d already birthed one clutch and raised two, which she figured was plenty to honor Her Majesty Tiamat. Transforming into her human form early was her best option.
Anglistra’s human form was that of a fiery-haired knockout with stunning curves, allowing her to effortlessly blend into a merchant caravan.
In the caravan, it was easy to gather information. She learned that Watchtower Port housed a total of five dragons. Among them were two Red Dragons, a Blue Dragon, a Green Dragon ruling over the current forest, and lastly a bronze dragon serving as the port’s Inspector. Thanks to the bronze dragon’s presence, Watchtower Port barely maintained order.
"Are you telling me that the lord of Watchtower Port wields a sword while wearing armor?" Anglistra couldn’t hold back her skepticism over such outrageous information. "Do I look like an idiot to you?"
She’d seen armored dragons before, but never a dragon using a sword—not gripping it in their mouth, but wielding it with arms like a Human. Salovis, as a baby dragon, used to play with Leon often, and she recalled how Leon could use a sword. Still, Anglistra had never paid attention to her son—kids playing make-believe definitely weren’t worth her concern.
Anglistra thought she’d done a good job disguising herself, but to the merchant leader, her act was full of holes. After all, no beauty would be wandering leisurely in such a perilous forest without a reason. Clearly, she was something formidable, and denying her request wasn’t an option. With cautious politeness, he answered, "I’m not lying to you. If you don’t believe me, you can ask others."
"He’s got a nickname—Cliff Sword—because he knows how to wield a sword," the merchant leader whispered nervously. "There are even rumors saying he’s a Ruby Dragon."
Ruby Dragon? That was far too ridiculous. This time, Anglistra didn’t bother to voice her doubts. She gave a nonchalant nod instead and said, "I want to hear more about the other Red Dragon."
The merchant leader had plenty of gossip, though how much was true and how much was hearsay was up for debate. He said, "The other Red Dragon is smaller than the first one. People say she always calls the first Red Dragon ’brother.’ Rumor has it they’re siblings."
"Impossible. Absolutely impossible. This I know for sure," Anglistra refuted. "Unless she’s not called Salovis."
"I don’t know her name," the merchant leader replied, shaking his head. At the end of the day, he was just a merchant leader, nothing more.
...
...
Salovis wasn’t suited for accomplishing tasks. As a result, Leon hadn’t assigned her anything, leaving her to spend most of her time idling on Volcanic Island ever since she dug a massive hole to build her nest.
Out of nowhere, Salovis felt like visiting Watchtower Port. Crawling out of her hole, she stretched her wings, kicked off with her legs, flapped her wings, and took to the skies.
The distance between Watchtower Port and Volcanic Island wasn’t far—at least not for a dragon. Salovis descended onto Watchtower Port in just ten minutes. Reluctantly, she switched to her human form... though she much preferred her dragon form, it was simply too prone to causing trouble. Accidentally breaking something meant paying compensation—often a few Gold Coins worth.
She certainly didn’t want to compensate anyone, but her brother would force her to pay up. Such an unfeeling brother—he didn’t care for her at all.
Salovis still wasn’t sure why she came to Watchtower Port. After some thought, she headed toward the plaza, where there were several shops. Maybe she could buy something good... She wasn’t even sure when she started learning to shop for things. Back when she served the Githyanki, she only knew how to rob, not how to trade. She could only attribute this change to her brother’s overbearing fists.
A massive hunting horn caught her eye—intricately decorated with fine engravings, though the metal parts were slightly tarnished. Salovis thought about buying it to place in her nest; her nest was feeling a bit empty after all. But after seeing the price—one hundred Gold Coins—she immediately abandoned the idea.
Next, she spotted a chessboard complete with ornately-carved chess pieces inlaid with gemstones. Leon had a set, so Salovis figured she should have one too. Yet the moment she saw the price, her lip twitched... all the gemstones used were cheap ones, no more than one hundred Gold Coins in total value. And yet, they dared to slap on such an absurdly high price. Clearly, it was meant to con idiots.
As a Red Dragon, Salovis had an uncanny ability to instantly judge the true worth of any item down to the copper coin. However, her unwillingness to suffer losses or accept inflated prices made it exceedingly difficult for her to complete a transaction.
After wandering around for this long, leaving with nothing would be embarrassing. She needed a justification. Thinking for a moment, Salovis declared, "What a pile of trash. Not a single thing worth my attention. I don’t even know how to spend my tens of thousands of Gold Coins."
With a casual wave of her hand, Salovis sauntered out. Just as she stepped out of the store, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Then, a familiar yet unfamiliar voice came from behind.
"My little darling, I never thought you’d be living it up so well these days, so wealthy you’ve got tens of thousands of Gold Coins to spend."
"Who’s there? Do you have a death wish?" Salovis turned around, wanting to see who dared to trouble her.
She saw a stunningly beautiful figure towering half a head above her—someone who seemed vaguely familiar.
