Chapter 212: Chapter 208: Unresolvable
October 3rd.
"You have no idea how brave that girl was, she snatched a knife from me and just rushed out, I immediately followed to see..."
The diner owner gestured with his hands, pointed to the dashcam on the table, and said to He Shan, "Just a sec, it’s coming right up!"
In the video, a group of flamboyantly dressed young people tried to move forward several times but were pulled back by Qin Guanglin. He didn’t care about the punches and kicks around him, undauntedly blocking their way.
The video was silent, as if a mime was being performed.
It was only when someone swung a hand towards the back of his head that everyone’s movement halted, and the screen paused for a moment.
He Shan’s face was dark as he watched the video, silent, his fists clenched tightly together.
"Here it comes!"
As the owner spoke, He Fang’s figure appeared in the video, running down the street, confronting the group with only her back visible on the silent screen, unable to hear what was being said.
"Shit!"
He Shan cursed out loud, slapping the table as he stood up.
"Hey, hey, that’s mine..." The owner reached out to stop him as he pocketed the dashcam.
"I’ll just make a copy and return it to you."
He Shan slapped several red banknotes on the table and then stepped out of the diner, picking up his phone to dial, while the diner owner hesitated, then grabbed the money and went to the door to jot down his license plate number.
"Jie, come in for overtime... Talk at He City’s Second Hospital, I’ll be waiting for you there."
The Buick parked at the entrance roared to life, heading from west to east, speeding towards the hospital on the early morning streets.
...
Qin Guanglin woke up in the afternoon to find He Fang dozing off next to him, her face resting on his hand.
"Ahh~"
A slight movement and the pain on his head made him involuntarily gasp in a breath of cold air.
"You’re awake?!" He Fang suddenly woke up, stood up, and stared nervously at Qin Guanglin. She reached out to cradle his face but feared aggravating his wound and anxiously twisted the hem of her clothes, "How are you feeling now?"
"Those bastards... tsk, they really went hard." Qin Guanglin tentatively touched the top of his head and couldn’t help but inhale sharply again, "You’re not hurt, are you? Who took me to the hospital?"
The bottle shattered, and the moment before he lost consciousness, he strained to look back; the street was already devoid of He Fang’s figure, so he wasn’t too worried.
"I’m fine." He Fang shook her head, moving closer to check behind his head with concern, "I’ll call the doctor over to have a look, don’t leave any aftereffects..."
"It’s just a superficial wound." Qin Guanglin grabbed her hand, "The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes today was you. Let me give you a kiss before I go."
"It’s not the time for jokes."
He Fang glared at him, shaking her hand to break free, but Qin Guanglin held onto her wrist tightly, leaving her with no choice but to lean in reluctantly.
Creak.
"Those kids have already been caught..."
The sound of the door opening and He Shan’s voice starting to speak came simultaneously, then stopped abruptly.
"...You guys are busy, I’ll come back later." He Shan raised his hand awkwardly, preparing to leave again.
"I’ll call the doctor." He Fang glared at Qin Guanglin, approached the door but then paused, turning to He Shan, "Did you find those people?"
"Found them, still asleep at home, a total look of confusion when they were taken in, and then the rest were dragged out one after another."
He Shan spoke as he sat down, waving to He Fang, "Go on, we’ll talk later." He turned his head to Qin Guanglin, "When did you wake up?"
"Cough... just now." Qin Guanglin felt a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable, turning his head to look away.
Murphy’s Law never deceives, get caught red-handed while doing something sneaky for sure.
"How do you feel?"
"Fine, just still a bit sore."
"Don’t worry, we found those guys. We’re off to get an injury assessment in a bit, and we won’t let you suffer any losses."
He Shan gently patted his shoulder, still stifling a breath of anger.
This was supposed to be the future brother-in-law’s first visit, and he got his head cracked open upon leaving. What kind of situation is this?
How would this make He City look?
Some superstitious folks might even think that someone in the He Family had a conflict with him.
A bunch of brats, always causing trouble when they have nothing better to do.
He fell silent for a while, then gently patted Qin Guanglin’s shoulder again, saying earnestly, "You did well."
If he had been in the same situation himself, he wouldn’t have been able to do any better. One against several, just managing to hold them off was a win.
Not to mention, after getting smacked on the head by a bottle, Qin Guanglin still managed to look back to ensure He Fang had gotten clear of the fray before he allowed himself to collapse.
That’s a real man.
"It’s what I should do... Is He Fang okay?" Qin Guanglin still wanted to make sure.
"She about went at them with a knife..."
"Ah?! Eh~"
Qin Guanglin fiercely turned his head at his words, pulling at his wounds and couldn’t help but grimace and suck in air, asking while gasping, "What happened? Didn’t she leave? How could she..."
"She didn’t tell you?" He Shan touched his nose and realized that when Qin Guanglin said he had just woken up, it wasn’t a courtesy; he had really just woken up and hadn’t spoken a word.
Right after waking up, he even kissed her...
Tsk.
He Shan shook his head, seeing Qin Guanglin’s anxious expression; he didn’t keep him in suspense, pulling up the video from the streetside food stall owner’s dashcam and handing it to him, "Take a look."
He had his own reasons for showing the footage. He guessed that He Fang probably wouldn’t completely honesty tell Qin Guanglin about what happened last night; she would likely gloss over it, which is unacceptable. He couldn’t let Qin Guanglin think his sister had sneakily run away.
That wouldn’t be good for their relationship.
Watching the dashcam footage again, He Shan felt not only the anger he had felt on his first viewing that morning but also a mix of complex emotions. Who would have thought his sister, always so gentle and frail, would face off against someone with a knife in hand?
Seeing the look in her eyes when she talked to him this morning, He Shan had no doubt that if the other side hadn’t backed down last night, she would truly have been able to stab them.
Then things would have gotten ugly.
"What did she... say to them? Why did they suddenly leave?" Qin Guanglin fell silent for a long moment before handing back the phone to He Shan.
"She just told them that she had called the cops already, and since there were no cameras here, they could leave without any further pursuit... By then, you were already bleeding, and those brats got scared, so they left just like that." He Shan had already asked He Fang about it that morning and said this as he put his phone away.
"No further pursuit... Hmmph, they can dream on. I’ll arrange the injury assessment in a bit. You just focus on healing; don’t worry about anything else."
A ruthless glint flashed momentarily in He Shan’s eyes, then he swiftly resumed his amiable demeanor, "These brats, always up to no good when they’re full, embarrassing us folks from He City... Don’t worry, we won’t let you suffer any losses."
"Brother, the doctor’s here." He Fang came in with someone in a white coat, closed the door behind her, and pointed outside, "Someone’s looking for you; you go handle it."
"Who is it?" He Shan was puzzled, checking his phone for any missed calls or messages.
"Who else could it be? They sniffed out the situation and want to settle privately."
"They’re that quick?"
He Shan was momentarily stunned, then reassured himself and rose to his feet, giving He Fang a reassuring gesture, "Leave it to me. Regardless of where they’ve come from, I’ll make sure they return from whence they came."
Stopping at the door, he paused and looked back, asking, "What terms could settle this? Just give me a head’s up."
"It can’t be settled, wait for the assessment." He Fang looked at him expressionlessly, "We’re not short on cash, we can earn it ourselves."
"All set then."
