Chapter 1172: Chapter 1172: The Overly Hasty Celebrations
"Maybe you were too busy, so your father and brother decided on it after they had a look," said Zhang Yun on the side.
"Didn’t An Ping have a partner before? On the day he left, he even asked you to keep an eye out for him," said An Hao, puzzled. How come marriage is suddenly on the table? Even Qin Jian found it dubious.
"I don’t know, so I’m saying we should go back after lunch," An Hao suggested, "My eyes have been twitching these past few days. I keep feeling like something is going to happen. Could it be related to An Ping’s situation?"
"Don’t jump to conclusions. What if it’s a good thing?" Qin Jian, seeing her distressed, tried to comfort her.
An Hao shook her head, unable to fully articulate the kind of feeling she had.
Ever since that last time, after having those two dreams, whenever something bad was about to happen, she seemed to have a premonition of it.
But her premonitions were not always accurate.
She had been trying to find a consistent pattern in these feelings.
But so far, no pattern had emerged.
Seeing An Hao with a worried expression, Zhang Yun suggested, "If you’re not at ease, let’s have lunch earlier, and you and Qin Jian can head back sooner to see what the situation actually is. Once you know for sure, you’ll stop worrying."
"Mmm, thanks, Mom!"
Zhang Yun went to prepare lunch, and An Hao followed to help out.
Lunch was ready in no time, and An Hao and Qin Jian ate quickly.
Ning Yibin then had the security personnel take them back.
As soon as they entered the village and got out of the car, An Hao could hear people discussing the An Family’s business.
"Wow, I heard An Ping is getting married. Who’s the lucky girl from such a good family?"
"Right, the An Family has so much money now they can’t even count it all. Marrying into that family would be like falling into a pot of honey."
"I originally thought An Ping would set his sights high, maybe find someone from the city. Who knew? He picked someone from the village."
"As long as she’s pretty, that’s enough. Who cares if she’s from the city or the village."
"I heard it’s the girl from the Niu Family."
"Which Niu Family?"
"The one at the very west end of the village. You know, the reticent Old Niu; his wife is a really formidable woman."
The Niu Family’s child? An Hao had no recollection of them at all.
Seeing how animated everyone’s discussions were, and judging by their words and expressions, they didn’t seem very pleased with the Niu Family.
Without another thought, An Hao quickened her pace, walking into the village with Qin Jian.
As soon as they stepped through their own front gate, a wave of festivity hit them.
The house was spotlessly clean, and not a single fallen leaf was to be found in the yard.
Red couplets were affixed to the doors of each room, and the east side of the courtyard was piled with firewood, seemingly in preparation for building a cooking stove to use on the wedding day.
"They’re pretty swift," commented Qin Jian.
Usually, at this point, the wedding would be no more than a week away.
Why was An Ping’s wedding being arranged so hastily?
Although he wasn’t quite at the marrying age, that’s not usually a concern in the village.
Here, people tend to board the train first and buy the ticket later.
"Come on, let’s go inside and find out what’s really going on," An Hao said, heading straight for the north room.
Upon entering, the room was bustling with people sitting close together, with a low table covered in tea and sugar cubes, apparently in the midst of arranging An Ping’s wedding proceedings.
"Dad, when was the wedding settled?" An Hao asked without waiting for others to speak up.
