Chapter 1173: Chapter 1173: Large Dowry

As soon as An Hao spoke, everyone’s gaze turned toward her.

An Shuchao saw his daughter and son-in-law had both hurried back, and waved at them happily, "You two are back, come in quickly and have a seat, we are discussing An Ping’s wedding. Here, let me introduce you."

So he pointed to the people sitting around the table and introduced them one by one: "This is An Ping’s future father-in-law, and here is the mother-in-law. Their surname is Niu, both of them. These are your uncle and aunt from our side of the family, and the rest are neighbors you know."

Upon hearing her father’s introduction, An Hao’s gaze fell upon those referred to as An Ping’s future in-laws.

Even though they lived in the same village, An Hao found their faces unfamiliar. If it weren’t for others mentioning them, she would have had no idea such a family lived in their village.

The man looked just over fifty, the kind who was blatantly honest, extremely simple and straightforward.

Seeing An Hao looking at him, he smiled at her and took the initiative to greet her: "Girl, you’re back!"

An Hao nodded and responded with a smile, "Uncle Niu."

"Yeah," Uncle Niu replied with a chuckle.

An Hao’s first impression of him was not bad; he indeed seemed to be the honest man people described him as.

Having such a father-in-law in the future would surely reduce the family’s troubles by half.

But then, looking at An Ping’s future mother-in-law, who just sat there eating sugar and drinking tea, not even glancing her way, An Hao felt quite uncomfortable.

"Auntie," out of politeness, An Hao still greeted her.

"Mm," Niu Xiuling grunted from her nose, then slapped the table and said to An Shuchao, "I’m saying, in-laws, are we going to talk about this wedding or not? It’s already half the afternoon and we haven’t reached a single decision."

"Talk about it, talk about it, of course we have to talk about it," An Shuchao placated her with a smile.

"Then let’s get on with it, shall we?" She was rather impatient. "Taking so long just to discuss something."

"Ah, in-laws, don’t be in a hurry, let’s take our time," An Shuchao gestured for An Hao and Qin Jian to sit down and listen. He then continued the discussion, but the interruption left him suddenly struggling to remember, "Where were we?"

"The dowry," Niu Xiuling reminded.

"Oh right, right, we were talking about the dowry, what does my in-law want?" An Shuchao asked her.

Uncle Niu was about to speak when his wife, Niu Xiuling, stopped him with a look.

She spoke up, "A dowry of two thousand. Plus three big-ticket items: a TV, a sewing machine, and a bicycle."

An Shuchao was taken aback; he had expected the Niu Family to ask for a considerable dowry, but the outright demand of two thousand was a bit too much.

"In-law, isn’t this a bit..."

"What, you think it’s too much? Your An Ping is always boasting to my Erni about how rich your family is. If you’re so wealthy, can’t you even produce two thousand yuan?" Niu Xiuling spoke harshly.

"We can produce it," An Shuchao hastily said.

An Hao was frowning on the side, feeling like there was a lump of cotton lodged in her heart – impossible to swallow or cough up.

Listening to this person talk was infuriating.

If An Ping ended up with such a mother-in-law, An Hao could already foresee future difficulties.

She watched her father sitting in the middle, surrounded by the Niu family, clearly distressed yet feigning joy.

Her heart was bursting with frustration!
