Chapter 509: Chapter 308: Life is Always About Letting Go

Adrian was thrilled to soon receive a parting gift from his teacher, which he felt was more aptly described as an advancement gift. Clearly, had he not ascended to legendary status, he would never have laid eyes on it.

He stared blankly at the small box Diamant brought in front of him and couldn’t help but ask, "Had I not become legendary, would this gift have vanished?"

Diamant answered very seriously, "This gift has nine layers, with one layer destroyed every year. If after ten years, sir, you are not legendary, then of course there will be nothing left."

Even after receiving congratulatory letters like snowflakes, Adrian still felt a weight of tens of thousands of tons of damage.

He wondered if his teacher had too much confidence in him or was utterly disappointed.

Adrian walked within the Magic Tower, which he had managed a long time ago, so he lacked curiosity, except perhaps about some special materials he was not previously entitled to use.

However, for Adrian, it would be even better if the magic plants were rare. Common ones, no matter how powerful, wouldn’t surprise him; after all, Hill’s Domain had it all.

Adrian had long been accustomed to exchanging some branches and fruits with magical plants in Hill Valley during spring and autumn.

It was not until he saw the great item Hill had left him that he planned a long journey. Hill, worried he might not go to Central City, had left the gift in the Magic Tower for Fran to pass on.

Looking at the large piece of mithril, Adrian once again felt Hill’s luck. Perhaps he could ask Hill if he had any particularly rare magical plant materials.

He still had to find the magical plants to exchange them, but Hill was one to have magical plants come to his door willingly offering supplies.

"What did the teacher make with mithril?" Adrian couldn’t help asking Diamant; he hadn’t seen the glow of a demi-god artifact.

"A semi-finished product, a strange box loaded with many long swords. I do not understand it; it seems it was from Mr. Hill’s blueprints," Diamant pondered and said, "The former tower master felt it was best completed in the starry sky. It seems that taking on the power of the stars benefits those swords even more."

Adrian immediately knew which weapon it was; Hill had given him that blueprint as well: a sword box that could unleash myriad swords, but with a very small attack range, it’s basically a single-target spell.

Compared to the Sphere of All Spells, although the attack power was limited, it was more potent and focused.

He found it interesting, but really didn’t expect that his teacher would like it too! Adrian had always thought Fran would not like such flamboyant stuff.

He turned his head and instructed Diamant, "Just keep everything in the town as usual; I now have the means to keep this Magic Tower."

However, Adrian, preparing to leave, was called back.

"Sir, there is something I do not know how to handle," Diamant hesitated, unusual for a tower spirit who usually acted by the rules, Adrian raised his eyebrows in curiosity.

Diamant simply said, "Mage Boen’s parents came to the Magic Tower a few days ago, asking if they could move to Kexlote; they want to live there."

Adrian stopped, his usually smiling face turning cold, "Why do they suddenly want to leave? Do they think that with the teacher gone, I will not manage their affairs? Boen is still working under me!"

"It seems their twins have reached marriageable age," Diamant had of course already investigated, "They do not want their children to have to choose a spouse just within this small town."

"With a brother who holds a decent position as a mage at the Magic Tower, these two kids should have quite a few choices for marriage, right?" Adrian wondered, "Even among trading caravans, no one without a leader’s status or higher would have the face to propose."

In Fran’s caravan, the leader was a Grand Knight, and Boen’s siblings hadn’t even reached the status of a Knight.

Adrian always felt that Hill had long discovered the poor aptitude of these two children and did not plan to keep troublemakers around.

"Boen’s sister Shani is very beautiful; they somewhat regret leaving Mr. Hill’s place, so they want to prepare on two fronts. If they can go to the Capital, that’s best, possibly finding a son-in-law with a title. Otherwise, they’re considering sending her to Mr. Hill’s place, where the Space-Time Cathedral is still managed by the Undead," Diamant replied.

"Does Srei know?" Adrian directly asked, his brow furrowed. He worried Srei might not be prepared for these matters.

"The former tower master had already placed a branch of the Lily Magic Plant from Mr. Hill’s Domain outside their window, Srei knew before I did what was happening; he informed me," Diamant answered.

"Tell Boen. I remember he still sends money every year to support his parents? Tell him to give up hope early, to handle nothing but the money," Adrian scoffed, "Directly send Boen to Central City, then let them go."

He walked a few steps, then suddenly asked, "Boen’s mother, doesn’t she have some issues with her Faction?"

"After so many years, she has returned to the Neutral Faction," Diamant answered, "She was originally just slightly evil."

Adrian waved his hand dismissively, "Then let them do whatever they want! Without Hill, his tower spirit certainly won’t have a favorable attitude toward them."

He had long realized that aside from needing to be cautious with Boen, that family wasn’t of much concern to Hill.

The grudges had been settled long ago, and Boen’s mother had even sold Hill’s matters to the Undead Tribe.

At the very least, Melanie and those Princesses, it must have been her who spoke out about it.

Although she herself never said anything offensive, she had already betrayed her once loyal master.

Before that, Hill had even sent them gifts, but after that book came out, Hill never paid any attention to these people again.

Even Boen had completely lost hope in his own parents.

Perhaps knowing that his future could only be tied to that pair of twins, did this couple decide to make one last effort?

Adrian returned directly to Central City from Hill’s town.

Boen arrived quickly, bringing a group of students from the Alchemy Academy. He moved into Adrian’s Magic Tower and began teaching diligently, not mentioning his family at all.

Adrian was very pleased with his actions, Boen had long owed nothing to his parents. If he truly reached legendary status one day, the only debt he owed was to Hill.

Boen really had no ideas left, he was slowly approaching middle age, matured a lot, and no longer regarded parental care and love as important.

He felt that if it were the current him, Hill probably wouldn’t have sent him away, he had already given up that faint longing.

The older he got, the clearer he understood, the choice between his parents and Hill back then was the hardest. The most likely outcome would have been to collapse completely, utterly destroyed.

Hill chose to end everything cleanly, leaving himself the most trouble-free path.

Boen knew Adrian was wary of him staying in Kexlote with his parents, pulling him down and causing trouble for Hill, which was why he was called to Central City to continue mentoring apprentices.

He felt he wouldn’t interfere too much anymore, after all, according to the rules of the mages, as the eldest son who was disowned, Boen really owed his parents nothing. But since Adrian was worried, he saw no reason to act against the Tower Master’s wishes.

Upon returning to Central City, Adrian soon welcomed a visit from Spencer, now already a legend, whether he would continue as City Lord was a matter of great interest.

"Of course I’ll continue," Adrian said briskly, "Didn’t I agree with His Majesty the King for a hundred years? Since I’ve been rewarded, I will definitely complete the task."

Spencer looked bewildered, considering Adrian’s salary, which was probably not even worth one of his potions.

Adrian smiled at Spencer, "The center of the world is indeed extraordinary. No wonder the teacher and Hill both wanted me to stay here. If it weren’t for this place, my ascension to legend would probably take several more decades."

"Did His Majesty the King say that it was Hill’s Demi-God Artifact that benefited you?" Spencer asked bluntly, "I know there are benefits here, but definitely not as much as yours.

"Don’t forget, you once told me, yourself as a legend in 50 years, would come to see me become an old man."

"Ah!" Adrian sighed deeply, "I really drank too much that time, daring to speak the truth like that!"

Spencer’s lips curved into a cold smirk, about to sneer, when Adrian interrupted him: "Speaking of which, Hill gave me some Mithril this time."

"What?" Spencer’s voice changed, as a Sky Knight, he of course knew the legends about Mithril.

"That Legendary Shield of yours," Adrian laughed wildly, "Do you want me to add something special to it?"

Spencer, who had just purchased a shield from Hill, was he still loaded with money? Adrian’s whole demeanor seemed to say this.

"Is there anything about Hill that can’t be talked about?" Spencer was puzzled, "You tell me first, otherwise I’m afraid I’ll say the wrong thing."

"Actually, it’s nothing." Adrian thought for a moment, "It’s just that we’re used to hiding things, Hill has too many secrets, and we’ve always been afraid of being targeted.

The moment Hill’s Demi-God Artifact took shape, the sensation from the Law of the Earth was too clear, very significant for someone like me who is trying to understand this law."

Spencer shook his head, "Hill is no longer someone anyone dares to bully. Neither are you."

Adrian revealed a relieved smile, "Exactly. Even those Legendary Laws much more powerful than me, after Agleya stood outside the Star Gate and greeted me, they wouldn’t dare to lay a hand on me anymore."

"What?" Spencer was hearing of this for the first time, "His Majesty the King never mentioned it!"

"For him, of course, it’s nothing," Adrian sighed, "The Sea God was probably worried about someone making a move on me while Hill was away, that’s why he stood there watching. It’s a pity I wasn’t strong enough, and couldn’t pass through that gate."

Spencer gave Adrian a cold look, full of self-importance.
