Chapter 86: Human Experiment (2)
Chapter 86: Human Experiment (2)
"All right, stitch witches!" Medeia kicked open the door and looked at the doctors huddled in the corner of the room. Their hands and feet were bound with rope, while their mouths were gagged with dirty cloth.
"Let’s play a little game," she said, tilting her head and flashing a smile that was far too sweet to be comforting. "Question and answer. I ask, you answer. Simple, right?"
The doctors tried their best to get away from her, sensing a bad omen in her.
Medeia pointed her sword at one of them. "If you retreat even an inch, I will cut off your legs."
[WARNING! WARNING!]
[Threat detected!!]
[Host, you cannot threaten innocent people!]
’Innocent, you say? They’re the ones who turned many people into monsters!’
[Host, they were only following the instructions from their general! Some of them are even kidnapped and forced to work under pressure!’]
Medeia narrowed her eyes and looked at their faces. Some of them seemed quite innocent, but she’d be doomed if she judged someone just by their looks.
’There is no excuse for a bad deed. You keep telling me that, remember?’
The system went silent for a while, perhaps trying to find an excuse to refute her words.
[But everyone deserves a second chance, host! You also have done bad things in the past, but you have been given a new chance to fix your life!]
A new chance, my ass.
The system had given her a second chance not out of kindness, but because it found her character entertaining enough for a reality show.
[Besides, if you want to talk about the bad deeds, Lucian made really big mistakes back then, too.]
Medeia’s face darkened. She was fine with the system talking badly about her past, but she would never let the system talk badly about Lucian.
’Don’t bring his name into the table!’ she snapped inwardly, ’He was lied to by his general. Those damn doctors? They knew what they were doing.’
’You told me that everyone deserves a second chance? Well, let me tell you a secret, my dear system. They may get a second chance, but they will never be able to run from the consequences of their actions.’
Yes, some of them were forced to follow Orlon’s orders, but that didn’t make them innocent.
They had sacrificed other lives in order to survive. There was nothing wrong with doing anything to survive, but every action had consequences and they had to face them.
"Medeia," Lucian called after she hadn’t said anything for a while. "Are you okay?"
Medeia snapped her mind back to reality. "Yes, I’m okay." She lowered her sword and said, "How about we start with the question now?"
The system didn’t say anything after that, maybe it had found Medeia’s words reasonable so that it couldn’t argue with them anymore.
"Let’s make this quick. We don’t have all day," Lucian said and stepped forward to stand at her side.
Simon and Ren removed the cloth from their mouths so they could speak. But the first thing that came out of their mouths was a string of insults. "Let us go, you moron!"
"You think General Orlon is going to stand by and let you mess with his base?"
Medeia laughed in her mind. If the system still had the audacity to call these people innocent, she would give up her C-points to insult it non-stop.
Maybe in the beginning they were forced by Orlon to perform experiments on humans. But as time passed, the curiosity in their hearts overcame their consciences.
The humans before them were nothing more than a bunch of doctors who liked to play with their lab rats.
"What can he do?" Medeia tilted her head. "He’s in the dungeon now, along with his rabid lab rats. I don’t think he’s alive down there."
The doctors’ faces turned pale. One of them asked, "You mean the monsters are out of their cage?"
Interesting.
These doctors actually called them monsters.
"They should be contained! No, you must close the way out of the dungeon!"
"We have." Medeia leaned closer. "Tell me, what exactly did you do to these ’lab rats’ to make you afraid when they got loose?"
Medeia could guess that someone had deliberately released those monsters from their cages. But what the hell was he thinking?
Didn’t it sound like suicide? Who was the madman who opened the cages of the dangerous monsters when he was trapped in the dungeon?
Unless ... unless he had a way to control them.
Medeia immediately pulled the doctor’s collar, then asked in a demanding tone. "What was Orlon planning to do with the monsters?"
The doctor hiccupped, trembling under her piercing gaze. He stammered, "G-General Orlon wanted to create a new kind of soldier that could survive in any condition and have multiple abilities."
Lucian furrowed his eyebrows. "It’s impossible to have multiple abilities unless they had the talent for it in the first place."
"Y-yes, you’re right." the doctor stammered, "that’s why General—he ... he fused DNA from various mutants and other creatures, even animals. He thought combining strengths could create hybrids with extraordinary abilities."
Medeia frowned, showing her confusion. She didn’t know much about the human medical field, but she was sure that to get such results, they had to do so many experiments until it worked.
If they had been doing this research for more than a dozen years, then the number of humans who had been experimented on in that lab probably ran into the thousands.
As she thought about it, she finally realized that something was missing. "Where are the babies? The children you took from the Stormclad base, where are they?"
Since she entered the Warstock base, Medeia had seen no sign of children.
She didn’t even see any kid’s clothes in the laundry room, and there were no annoying sounds of children around the base.
It was strange. No matter how obedient the kids were, they always made annoying noises.
The doctor hesitantly said, "The children ... they are the main subjects of this experiment."
